DSL VS Cable Internet

By Big Al 002 on 13/08/2009
So you all know I got my warn lvl from switching routers and stuff like that and yeah.

Well little after that I found out that my dad switched it because Comcast Cable Internet was 2x more than DSL, but AT&T advertised it just as fast as Comcast.

Just a heads up, if you've got the money, DON'T get DSL internet. Get Comcast for yourself/whole family with all the wireless stuffs. It sucks. Ever since I've had it I've been DCING every other hour and the internet connection is almost ALWAYS choppy. Meaning; Even on simple things like AOL IM lag. Yeah.

These days, you may need that reliability. When AF had a run-in with ROT at new gate, I ran ahead and suddenly dced. That was the last of my 15 sets I originally bought for the WG Req. Things like school research, email, and gaming (especially for us) you need to get Comcast (or reliable internet that's better than DSL if you're not in America) for that stuff. It is necessary.

DSL sucks. Discuss. I couldn't post it in the tech support forum (no access), so please help.

If that's happening on DSL, then it's something more than just your internet. I've used DSL (Wireless DSL, actually)for about 3 years, and I haven't had much problem with it.

well i dont know much about deep-tech stuff but i do have an experienced friend who administrates it well and there is not much he can do anymore. and if i call the att people they might charge like, what (50-100$) for the service fee and more just to fix it. im 99% sure there is nothing wrong with the setup or anything. both router and computer were Just replaced about 1 month ago

ive got the top option (most expensive) for wireless DSL for att, out here those are probably the biggest two (comcast and att) and im considering switching to comcast triple play with hd tv too (which is 149$ a month), anyone have this?

DSL can be very fast if you're close to the provider, and also often cheaper than cable internet.

I have cable and it works well. It's a 3mb download speed for $55 a month. But the upload speed isn't much faster than DSL, which is common in cable internet. The only problem with cable internet is that it travels through the cable line, which means when my cable is down or isn't working well, it's the same for the internet.

well since changing my internet, ive been dcing like forever

only time my cable line ever went out (probably had it for like 7 years?) was blackouts and maybe once or twice and from me messin it up

add: well it might be cause i have higher expectations im just saying, my internet sucks i would rather have super dependable and faster internet than this. i just got the Yes from my dad to switch back, but before we blow 150$ a month on phone, internet, and hd tv i wanted to know if thats a good deal; and also on the dsl deal

As much as I don't like Comcast, I must agree.

My internet sucks big hairy balls(DSL) and I have two friends with Comcast and it's fast as fuck. Every time I bring my laptop to their houses I shit bricks.

That sounds like a typical price. I think that's what my brother pays for the internet/tv/phone package with Verizon Fios. We get a package for cable and internet and then the phone line is with a separate company, and ours comes out to being less than $150 (I forget what exactly) but our cable is very basic.

dont think it includes taxes and other fees so its like 180 dollars a month.

but yeah and another problem with it id like to have friends over and be on diff comps hate when i have to share and then the internet cant handle the (bandwidth?) or watever its called; the ability for the internet to handle the incoming memory/outcoming stuff)

Yea, i remember that time when i was running on DSL lolz. Thats one of the reasons why i left my first clan. The internet was running usually good; but always when we go to war or pk, my internat was disabled, thb always and with an accuracy on one second lol. I hated it tface.gif
I am happy to be a "cable internet user" now happy.gif

Before you get roped into HD TV through cable, take a look at what satellite has to offer in your area. I know that with satellite you can actually get full 1080p broadcasts because there is no bandwidth limit to the wireless link where as cable as of right now only offer 720p because of the limited bandwidth.

Cable internet is way better. Had DSL but it sucked so we got cable. I had the phone service through cable at one point too at the house I rent for university. It was good, worth it especially if you do alot of long distance calls. Got rid of it because everyone has cell phones and no one wanted to pay for it on top of their cell phone bill.

i have had directv, switched from comcast but its kinda better than comcast. although i doubt comcast has the blackouts like directv does with my NBA pass
