CHANGE TO THE OLYMPICS

By George on 15/08/2009
Guardians,

This IA is to alert you to a VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE to the way that the Olympic Winners will be decided.

You MUST read and understand the following - our Winning Title DEPENDS on it!

TBE haven't managed to fill all their sign ups... if we used the method that we have previously used for colllecting exps (ie: add all the exps together from each competitor of each skill), then they would be at a disadvantage...

Example: There could be 5 Fishers signed up for WG, but only 3 for TBE... this as you can probably see, puts TBE at a massive disadvantage.

SO:

The New System:

For each skill where either WG or TBE do NOT have 5 competitors, we will be taking the AVERAGE EXP GAIN of the entire team for that skill.

Example:
QUOTE
(Thieving)

WG Member 1: Gains 1m Exp
WG Member 2: Gains 2m Exp
WG Member 3: Gains 1m Exp
WG Member 4: Gains 500k Exp
WG Member 5: Gains 5m Exp

Total for WG: 9.5m EXP
AVERAGE for WG: 9.5m/5 = 1.9m EXP

TBE Member 1: Gains 500k Exp
TBE Member 2: Gains 200k Exp
TBE Member 3: Gains 1m Exp
TBE Member 4: Gains 2m Exp

Total for TBE: 3.7m EXP
AVERAGE for TBE: 3.7m/4 = 925k EXP

Winner: WG since WG has a HIGHER AVERAGE Exp Gain in Thieving.

So that is the New System.

This is only for the Skills where either or both clans do not have 5 Competitors!

As such it will only be the case on the FOLLOWING SKILLS:
QUOTE
Cooking
Crafting
Farming
Firemaking
Hunter
Mining
Smithing
Thieving

BUT - What if a Member gets a very low amount of exp... for example 10,000 Exp... that brings the whole average down!! Right?? WRONG... Explanation:

Pugsi (TBE Event Coord), and the WG Skills Olympic Staff will be introducing a set of Tiers....so that if a Member does not gain over a certain amount of EXP during the week, his final EXP will NOT be counted towards the Exp Gain.
The tiers will be posted by the second day of the Olympics at the very latest.

What does this mean for me?
It means you cannot afford to be inactive.
We must all do our very very best...although obviously some inactive periods are unavoidable.
Do your best that's all i'm asking smile.gif

If you have any questions please post them here.

This will be interesting.

By Bassism on 16/08/2009
Roger that.

By ZurvivorMan on 16/08/2009
Alright, I might gain 15k - 20k max in farming XP.
Will be interesting tho

By Frozen_10 on 16/08/2009
Lets skill.

By txtawkin on 16/08/2009
uh oh..... unsure.gif

soooo......instead of every little bit helps like before, if you can't devote enough time to be above the tier, then no point in skilling? Or am I understanding this wrong?

and.....if you are barely above the tier, you bring the average down?

By Nick on 16/08/2009
Hm... It will be interesting.

I will definitely put my all in in Runecrafting though.

By txtawkin on 16/08/2009
Something to think about........instead of 2 skills, maybe we should max our time in only one. Possibly that would cause our numbers to be more closely matched to theirs and would also maximize our xp in that skill?

Gay...

By Wizard_Storm on 16/08/2009
That's fine, I'm still going to roast some cookin xp

By sgtswordfish on 16/08/2009
i've signed up for two teams. fishing and mining?

does that mean i have to focus on mining more because of the average?

By JC on 16/08/2009
Yeah, I'm sorry George but this really won't work. I was going to do "my little bit" in farming since the team wasn't full, but now if I get 20-50k Xp (okay it'll probably be more, but I'm going to work off a worst case scenario) I'm going to be dragging the rest of the team down.

This seems to be focusing on who will win/loose rather than just encouraging people to skill.

By kenaareke1 on 16/08/2009
so, if for example the rest of farm team barely does xp, i wasted 13m on seeds for nothing? i like

By VEPHYSAURAS on 16/08/2009
This puts us at a slight disadvantage now since we have more people. Were still he favorites though, so everyone has do their part.

By Gibble00 on 16/08/2009
Whoa whoa whoa then we should have all signed up for only one skill, right? Can we take ourselves off one?

Whatever, it only affects one of my skills. I'll try and boost thieving extra hard to bring up the average.

By mtoise on 16/08/2009
It's all a bit poo to be honest. hash.png

Numbers of our memberlists are almost same, so why they cannot fill all skills ?
This will make a disadventege to every team where is just a single person who cannot nolife for this whole event.
If its your final resolution... Prepare for glory guardians king.gif

The good thing is that one individual can sway a skill. You have a lot more power now in these events. Bring you're best.

By rachellove9 on 17/08/2009
Why did we have a raid last night? I have time to skill for this, but if I get pulled away to raid I won't have skilling time. Some of us have limited times. I only signed up for one skill because of this.

I was under the impression that our raids were going to be very limited during the skill Olympics . . .

We can win this guys.

I don't think anyone will think poorly of you if you were to miss any raids while this is happening. Many of us would love more raids to get a break from the constant training... (I am stuck in a boring one. :S)
