Merch clans gone wild?

Do you really think they can merch prayer potions though? It seems to me like there would be too many in circulation. With ancient staffs it's a little different because there is a lot less ancient staffs in the game than prayer potions and ranarrs (the price of prayer potions affects the price of ranarrs).
I don't know if I'm really anti-merch clan. It certainly pissed me off when I needed a whip and the price of whips recently fluctuated in price, going from 1.6m to over 3m. But I like the Grand Exchange and it seems like you wouldn't really be able to get rid of merch clans without affecting the GE.

Yes, they can merch them. It requires them to keep constant offers in the ge though.

The way you described them in your topic there reminded me of Enron. The leader gets people to follow him and then screws them over and doesn't tell the ranked people in his chat, but then tries to cover his tracks... The only difference is that no one's shredding documents...

I never merchant, I don't really feel any hostility toward them. It is annoying when they raised prices on prayer potions though. Sometimes I think they have too much control. Maybe too easy get cash these days.

'26king is gud way of cash, why be against it if you can do it urself n00b'
'oh look I has all dis cash now ...'
'Hai wanna make millions? join my CC we merch'
tl;dr: People made lots of cash easily, they started spending it carelessly, too many people to easily influence.

Merch clans are stupid and I can't believe people get involved with them. In those "public chats," 90% of the people break even or lose money. The only ones that profit are the 5-10% that are ranked. They buy out an item as much as they can, THEN tell the cc to buy out the item. Once its almost high enough, the ranks sell it, THEN tell the cc to sell it. Its a win win situation for ranked, and lose lose for non-ranked. People should be smarter.

The problem is really not so much the merchant clans, as it is the massive amounts of cash available to people.
I have a good amount of all the necessary things in my bank at all times and usually don't go to ge. I have around 500 p pots so it doesn't effect me at all. I had my ancient staffs too. I had more than one whip and sold my extras to clan mates. Being prepared and not relying on ge is what saves me.
The idea of selling all my seeds, fish, pots, and other necessaries to buy some item that will show my wealth to others is just not going to happen. This attitude is what gets people in trouble because then they don't have in their banks what they truly need.
I think if people would just smarten up and keep what they need in their banks, then the merchants would lose their power. Merchanting should be about rares and not about the every day useful items.

Agreed.
I try to keep essential items in my bank, so that if one day merch clans decide they want to merch an essential item such as prayer potions etc. i have enough of the item to last through the merch, so that i'm not paying like 16k for a prayer potion.

Know their system, beat their system, gain from their system. Piece of piss once you know how.

This. I can't tell you how much I overstock on items that I rarely use (moreso on the items that I DO use).
I keep about 50 super sets, 100-200 prayer potions, 50 antifires, tons of ammo/runes, tons of herbs/bars/ores and whatever else there is to stock up on. I rarely find myself low on items that are being merchanted, because I don't need to GE much. The only time I generally GE is if I'm buying a skill (See: Prayer, Construction, etc)

The WG Forums aint always sunshine and rainbows. Its a very rough and mean place. And no matter how tough you think you are, it wills always bring you to your knees and keep you there, permanately if you let it. You or nobody else will ever hit as hard as the WG Forums does. But It aint about how hard you hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward..If you know what your worth, go get what your worth. But you got to be able to take the hit.
