Trouble Ahead

By Back to Own on 21/08/2009
Alright.
This is how things are going right now.

I've been getting tired. Its been a long time and a lot of effort on my part. Its not that I'm losing interest; I've lost intrest in RS a long time ago. Its not because of WoW, though many of you will probably blame it anyway.

The last two weeks, I've grown much more inactive. Usually it was at least 2-3 pvp events a week, now I can do one. I said this week that I'm limiting raids because of Skill Olympics, but my behavior lately really makes me wonder if its true, or if im using Skill Olympics as an excuse to be lazy.

I've been going out alot more since school is starting soon. I still try to stay IRC active, but the majority of the time I'm not hanging out, I'm doing something else or play WoW. For once in a long time, I actually have been enjoying my time.

WG has become a chore for me again. Sure, I love raiding and all that, but I'm losing my speed. I'm in a spot where its become very difficult for me to put forth an effort, and for the past couple of weeks I have failed to do my job.

Out of all the council, I've done the least amount of work. I haven't accepted an application. I'm not gonna lie, I wouldnt be able to work without George and Darf. I haven't done much to keep our forums straight other than updating the news box. As Warlord, I havent been able to get us wars. Its all been constant raiding, but I know that we can't live on raids alone; it gets boring. I know what we need, but I cant bring myself to do it. Getting wars was something always difficult for me; I have always been more of situational kinda guy.

Anyways, I feel trapped. I feel tired and I don't know if I can keep up much longer. WG has become like a chore again ("Oh, gotta make # amount of raids this week"). I know that I'm not doing my job, but if I step down, I'm afraid things might fall apart.

Im thinking we will need a new Raid Leader to try to get us more active, cause I'm lacking. We have a 76 man ML, and two leaders; we need at least one more. However, I dont know who can really step up now. We could ask Glenn to get us fights. Im decent at P2P leading, but in getting wars, im nothing compared to Glenn; hes a master at it, especially in F2P. School is begining soon for many Americans, so our activity is going to go down. Some people may start leaving, but I think its important that WG knows what will happen when school starts and not panic when it happens.

We also need to take a step back into F2P. P2P is not working out. The last couple of raids have been lacking; Theres no one out our size in P2P currently, and I dont think its gonna change for a while. Welfarers is a repeat of what we did in F2P when we constantly fought PH cause thats all we could do, and you can tell that people are going to get tired of it.

I can sence a slump coming up soon, and we need to address it.

Ideas/Advice/Help

Note: Getting off WoW/stop hanging out is not a solution.

By George on 21/08/2009
Getting off WoW is a solution though!@@!!@ biggrin.gif
Ok Jokes aside... you're not resigning, we've got that straight.
I do agree that we need another raid leader - Lee is great, but he has to work alot, so I don't blame him for his activity.
I can't see any suitable candidates though... we lose them all to WoW (DZ, BTO) etc.... tongue.gif

I think that as soon as September sets in our ML will go down dramatically, maybe by 10-15 people, it happens every year and we really can't stop it, but I agree we need a new Raid Leader.

If you feel the strain is too much BTO then we will appoint another Council Member, to ease the stress off for Darth and I as well.

Honestly I don't mind, but like why is this lvl 3 neko2.gif

Anyways, there is NOBODY that we see as a true leader. I don't want to say it but we even rushed it into with Lee. And Lee if you are seeing this bro, you still have a lot to learn which is not what we really want. Because I don't think we're in the position to bring a totally inexperienced leader... But from there i really don't know what to say because what we do have is callers (ex. me, randy, ludo) so if we have either you or Lee at a war/raid then we're fine. But i also see the problem that both of you are epic inactive so like... wat...

By Lee on 22/08/2009
Saad, My innacitvity, is only primarily this week. My full activity will resume next week. Had a lot of stuff to deal with recently, which has made me want to do alot of hours at work, just to forget about it. GF will be back next week, which means less ours at work, and alot more to WG. I also agree with you. Im still learning the ropes. Leading people around the wilderness is a hell of alot harder than people thinks. Oh yea, im not that innactive, us GMT'ers often raid during the day. wink.gif

I also agree, in that we cant see anyone that looks like they can step up....hell im not even qualified. But people are not born with 'raiding' abilities. Its learnt from legends, like BTO and stuff.

I know that we are going to lose probably 10 people. But we will just raid through it. Raids and events need to increase after this week. We need a new challenge in pvp. Like alot of poeple said. Infliction are probably our best bet. Im reckoning we start hunting them, seeing what damage we can do. People want to raid. Ok, if they start teaming with distortion..WHO CARES. We can still call people, we have the sets to return in. EVERYONE should.

Ok, back on topic. Kevin, you need to set yourself a new challenge. Something you want yourself and WG to aim for, and get cracking on it. Like, IDK? 2000 total. Pulling 60 people to a raid. Or something. You get the jist. I started to get that feeling the other day, 'oh RS is annoying, all i do is play to raid.' but im going to max out after this week. For sure. Then ill get on making more cash.

my 25 bucks...

Man..my longest post ever...

Learn from the guy that's led WG for 6 years.

Three words for you babe.

TAKE

A

BREAK

Go and spend a month off. Chillax, forget the obligation.
Don't do anything you don't want to do.

If you want to just do a quest one weekend and not think about WG, do it.
Whever you find fun in WG, that's what you pursue.

Raid leadership will come back to you some other time.
Seriously, there are high expectations from you, but you should let them go.
People look up to you, but it's too much pressure for one person.
If you're not doing what people want, fuck them.

You do what's fun and nothing else.
WG must not become a chore.
That's what makes the council retire.

If you want to stick it out in the long term for WG, take a break, do your own thing, and come back to WG when you feel like it.
That's all there is to it.

By George on 22/08/2009
But Lee can you see any potential Raid Leader candidates?

Also as Lordy has said to you before Kev: If you keep going at this pace, you will eventually burn out and we will lose one of our best Warlords to date.
We don't want that and I'm sure you don't want that.. so take a break.
Darf + I can handle dis biggrin.gif

By David on 22/08/2009
Yeah Kevin, just relax.

You've been doing this for a long enough time that it's EXPECTED that the things you do for WG become "the same old thing."

We can't expect the impossible from you, you're just a kid.

Take a break. Don't step down, don't post inactivity. Just kind of put WG to the side when it comes to in-game stuff. If you decide to play RS one day and we're raiding, you don't have to come. Turn your chat to 'Off' or something and do what YOU want to do.

If you just want to play WoW, do that. Go outside. Do what makes you happy for a month and when you feel you're ready to come back to WG do it.

Don't let the "OH LOL HE'S PLAYING WOW" shit get to you. It's your life, play WoW the whole damn day if you want.

Everyone puts SO much pressure on you, it's not even funny. Just take a nice break. Forget about the responsibilities. If people tell you to come to an event, just tell them "No," regardless of what you're doing be it idling in a bank or doing a quest.

I know myself that RS can becomes boring as hell and as a result things related to it become boring and monotonous. Just forget about it all.

Nope. I dont see any. I see a couple of possible event leaders...but thats about it.

Ill have a browse. See what I can find.

By Indivi2you on 23/08/2009
If we really have to push for a raid leader... even for a super inexperienced one i would say either randy or ludo. But i've talked to randy he said he doesn't really want the job.

By Lee on 23/08/2009
Ludo wants event leader...

By David on 24/08/2009
If we are looking for aniher raid leader why don't we do somethng like an open trial?

What I mean is we say that we are looking and those interested PM a council. Then we host an event at CWA in P2P and each person that showed interest gets a chance to lead in an interclan fight. Then we decide who showed the most promise and we train them as leaders.

We could also ask Jess? She was once a raid leader, so she could be an option.

By George on 24/08/2009
Jess IS our best candidate atm.... but somehow it doesn't seem fair that she should get it the second she comes back, when she resigned from it the first time neko2.gif

Don't give it to her, make her earn it.

Ask her if she's interested. Then we see if she still has what we want in a Raid Leader. Have her take over a few raids maybe.

She only did F2P as far as I know? And F2P is far different from P2P in terms of leading I assume?

So we can't just hand her the position but we can keep a close eye on her if she does present an interest in the role.

By Back to Own on 24/08/2009
Took in consideration what you guys said.
As for raid leader, do NOT promote Jess. Shes way too emotional and cant handle staff.

By His Lordship on 25/08/2009
I'm with Kevin.
Jess is not emotionally stable enough for the role.

She never was sadly...

By VEPHYSAURAS on 25/08/2009
Ya she became raid leader month or so after I joined wg. I always remember she yelled a lot on ts. Not like calls but kinda angry or something. I thought it was sorta annoying. Jess is cool though I don't really like her as raid leader. More calm individuals keep me focused when raiding. P2p might be too hectic too.
