Leveling Smithing ... Ugh!

By Sabre Treky on 31/08/2009
By the end of the day I will have smelt 3k steel bars, and made them into 12k cannon balls... There HAS to be a better way! 1393.gif

Anyone have any secret strats or suggestions for me?

Unless someone has any other ideas, I'm going from 62-73 smelting steel and making into cannonballs, then at 73 a guide suggested making addy bolts. This legit?

I did mithril bolts from 55-70. Only lost about 1-1.5m. But if you're looking for profit, cannonballs are the only way. neko2.gif

Make Steel Plates until... Mithril Plates at 67 i believe then do those up to Adamant Plates which is 88 to be honest... Make sure you use SC Hammers though, makes it half as expensive.

The method you're doing already is ok... It is profitable but slow, boring and probably will make you want to stab your self in the leg.

Smithing is in general. So what level are you aiming for? But in any case, I'd go with Bob's method.

Not to sure, as high as possible probably.

Anyways, like I said perviously, the guide I used on Znet suggested Addy bolts are the way to go because they are fast and profitable. So I'm just trying to find a way over the 'hill' then once I hit 73 take off hopefully. tongue.gif

Nope smithing is really quick TBH.

Just spend some cash and watch the fun.

I personally did gold bars from 70-80 back in the day. Only cost me like 4m or something if i remember correctly. And it took like 2 days.

If cash isn't an issue, get SC hammers and make the highest level platebodies you can. If cash is an issue, God help you because Jagex won't. tface.gif

Yeah, today I got some Hammers, and did the math...

This is from 66-68 (mith plates are 68)

268 Steel plates = 1,340 steel bars
Steel bars = 756/per * 1,340 = 1,013,040

iron ore = 124
coal = 214 x 2 = 428

per bar = 552 * 1,340 = 739,680

I didn't include nat cost because I've got enough already to cover this. But you can see if I smelt the ore myself I actually don't lost much at all, but I also get bonus smithing and magic xp. Btw, I use the highest cost for coal and iron prices, just to make sure it's not gunna end up backfiring.

EDIT: I bought the coal for 208/per and the iron for 112/per so I'll probably recover around 40k extra so my losses go to around 360k. smile.gif

Wow, someone is actually gonna take my advice, it feels odd. ohmy.gif Good luck with Smithing, i've just got 77 - 82 with sc hammers doing mith plates, didn't lose too much did that for skill olympics, pushing for 90+ but at a steady pace, platebody is the way to go. xD

Um k. So I made a shit load of iron knives because back in the day they were profitable. Then I got bored, started making iron plates because it was faster and iron was the cheapest way to level if you didn't want to make any money off what you were making. At like level 94-ish I said fuck the money completely and bought addy bars and made plates out of them.

99 now kthxbai.

IF you have the cash to spend.

One thing I noticed is that secondary skills are always paced or faster EXCEPT smithing. Fishing = cooking. Woodcutting < Firemaking. but Mining > Smithing, even if you always smith the best stuff with the ores you get.

Hit 68, now the math for mith plates until 73 (Addy bolts, which are supposibly profitable).

729 mith chests to 73 = 3645 bars
mith ore = 334/per
coal = 214/per * 4 = 856 /2 = 428
mith bar = 1,190/per
mith bar = 762/per if you do blast furnace

if you buy the bar = 1,474 * 3,645 = 5,372,730
if you buy the ore = 1,190 * 3,645 = 4,337,550
if you buy the ore and use blast furnace = 762 * 3,645 = 2,777,490

high alch = 3,120 * 729 = 2,274,480

at a lose of = 2,274,480 - 2,777,490 = -503,010

So essentially I'm losing 100k a level, which is a little better then the steel rate of around 150k per level.
