Mentor Feedback *Updated*

Hiya, WildGuard.
As I was asking my Mentor questons tonight, I came up with yet another question.

So I got to thinking...Why not have Mentor Feedback?
It can be in the form of a simple thread in the Mentor Programme forum, a stickied topic. All it really needs is a quick explanation, and a form for providing said feedback.
Lemme try to explain why this would be a good idea.
Let's say a Mentor does very well with his or her Mentee. That Mentee can use this topic not only as a way to give his/her Mentor praises, but to add to a type of record for the Mentor. This feedback can be collected and saved for later use (such as, promotions, for example. You'd rather promote a good mentor than a bad one, right? I'm sure we could all agree on that!)
Likewise, if a Mento ris never around to answer those questions, or spends more time AFK than actually Mentoring, that can also be recorded, as told by the Mentee.
I think having a rating scale should be avoided. This could possibly cause strife. A simple form with fields for the Mentee's name, Mentor's name, and a a general explanation of how the Mentee felt about his or her Mentor is really all that is needed.
Now, some of you may suggest that this could breed strife. Alhthoguh it's a possibility, I feel that as long as Mentee's are honest, there wont be any significant porblems.
Of course, there would have to be rules for this. While giving feedback, there's absolutely no reason why a Mentee can't be civil! A Mentee should NEVER personally attack a Mentor. Giving feedback, even if negative feedback, should be constructive, in an atempt to either inform that Mentor of their strong areas, or to help that Mentor in areas they aren't so great at, if any!
Now, i'm not sayin that we have bad mentors.
I know the mentor apps are screened by Council, and that a member wouldn't be accepted for no reason. But, you just never know. Maybe a Mentor has gone inactive, God forbid, or is just havin a bad day.
That about wraps it up. Just a suggestion, i'm curious to see how it'll turn out.

I like the concept, I'd prefer if it were more private though.
I think it'd be best if this kind of thing were kept to Tertiaries and above, possibly even Elites.
Only because we don't want "Um, *name* hasn't done shit," in public...
Let the leaders know and they'll talk to the members.
The concept is really nice though.

Fact that the mentee needs to post whether the mentor is good or not makes this clan feel so much like a system. If he did good the mentee will enjoy his/her stay at wg if he did bad then they'll either leave or just get over it. This is just another annoying process that would be added to the mentoring process.

I'm not suggesting this as a requirement. I'm simply offering it as an option for the Mentee.

Something like this should be there. I don't think mentors are doing as much as they should be doing, but that is just me personally. When I was a mentor, I tried my damnedest to make sure my mentee felt comfortable, knew everything and such like that.

I agree that it should be private. I hadn't thoguht of this while posting the original topic.
Tertiary Leaders, Council, whichever would be the easiest for our Leaderly folks

PM's would probably work best, rather than havin a forum that everyone can see (they'd have to be level 1 for Mentees to post there, right?)
I think that, perhaps, Tertiaries, COuncil, whoever it is that recieves the pm could probably have easy time lookin it over, archiving it somewhere, and maybe informing the Mentor of said feedback.

If you wanna tell your mentor how you're doing, just tell them. No need to make things complicated and go mess around with forums and all that shit. If your mentor really sucks, go tell council and they'll deal with it.

Great idea, just needs more thought on the how to do process.
But you have to realize that when you are actually in the clan the mentors still are there to support you. I talk to most of my past mentees on a regular basis and they can still come to me for anything.
Usually if someone is a less experienced mentor, the rest of us help them out too. I may not be someones official mentor but I still try to look after the new members. (I've just adopted Keanu.)

Summing all the input I've received up:
Most repliers have agreed that the concept/idea is good, but that having a Mentor Feedback system within view of the general public is a bad idea.
I can see how this would be bad for a Mentor who hasn't exactly done what they should be-it could possibly be humiliating or degrading.
So, obviously, we would need a way to make it a private. I was mentioned that a PM would satisfy this requirement. Sure. I really can't think of any other reasonable way to submit feedback privately. Email or off-forums submitting would just be time consuming and frustrating.
So, assuming this suggestion were to be put into the works, and done so via PM, we would have to decide who would handle it.
Tertiaries are possible, but they have other stuff to worry about. Council is the same, if not even more busy.
A possibility is to have a certain number of long-running mentors that can be Mentor Feedback designates-they receive the PM's with the feedback and review it, then store it somewhere on a higher level forum, or simpyl forward it to Council for archiving on level 3 for privacy.
I think that this, having MF system designates would help keep the feedback system running smoothly, while preventing our Terts and Council from being overworked-and we wouldn't have to worry about a new Tert position being created simply for this, as was mentioned to me in a pm on irc earlier.

In addition, it will establish a type of record for the Mentors, which could very possibly come in handy for important events in the future-Promotions, for example. II. Instructions for Use As part of you Graduation from Trial Guardian, you will be able to privately submit feedback on how well your Mentor performed. You can do this by following the following steps: 1. Copy and paste the Feedback form, found below, into a forums private message 2. Fill the form out honestly, and to the best of your ability 3. Send the PM to one of the following members: -MFS Designate 1 -MFS Desginate 2 -MFS Designate 3 -MFS Designate 4 4. Be patient, and wait for their response Mentor Feedback Form:
III. Who to Contact to submit your Mentor Feedback The Mentor Feedback System is run by our Mentor Feedback System Desginates. They are 4 long-running and highly experienced mentors that receive feedback PMs, review them, and forward them higher up the chain of command for archiving. We have 4 MFS Designates so that no single one can become overwhelmed by forums PMs. Our MFS Designates are currently: -MFS Desigante 1 -MFS Desigante 2 -MFS Desigante 3 -MFS Desigante 4 They will receive your feedback PM's and respond to you to acknowledge receipt. If you have any questions about the Mentor Feedback System, they will be able to answer any question you may have. IV. Rules for Submitting Feedback The following are the rules governing the submitting of Mentor Feedback: 1. Providing Mentor Feedback should be reserved until your Graduation topic is posted, if not directly after promotion to Guardian. 2. Feedback is a private matter and is not to be posted publicly on any forum. 3. Feedback will be submitted only to Mentor Feedback System Designates. 4. Although you are given the freedom to speak your mind while giving feedback, please keep it civil. Remember, the MFS Designates have to review every form that is sent to them. They would not appreciate immaturity and unnecessary profane language or flame. 5. Do not use the Feedback System as a way to flame. This is not what feedback is for and completely defeats the point of Feedback. 6. ALL Mentor Feedback is to be constructive in nature. 7. Submit your Feedback PM to only one Designate. If no response of receipt is received within 24 hours, resend your Feedback pm to a different Designate. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ V. Mentor Feedback System Designates The MFS Desginates should be long-time Mentors with a decent amount of experience in Graduating Trial Guardians. They should be chosen carefully, as they will be handling private material regarding other members. As such, they should be trusted. To be a MFS Designate, one should be, idealy, an Elite Guardian. At the very least, a Higher Guardian with a long-running stint as a Mentor. VI. Instructions for MFS Desginates As MFS Designates, you will be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and forwarding Feedback PM's to Council. Your long stay in WildGuard has taught you more than enough about how to work the forums PM system-this shouldn't be an issue. You will be viewed as head mentors in some ways, so look sharp! 1. Upon Receipt of a Feedback PM you should: a. Respond to the sender with a simple message confirming reciept of the PM b. Read the PM, and flag any concerns you may have by editing the text's color to RED c. Forward to PM to a Council member so that it can be archived for possible later use d. If warrented, speak to the Mentor to correct/council them on their faults with this particular Mentee. If you feel this is necessary, be sure to inform the Mentor of the consequences should he or she attempt to retaliate against the Mentee in any form or fashion. e. Don't forget that you're still a Mentor! One of the best! VII. Council's hand in the Menor Feedback System Council will play a part in the operation of the Mentor Feedback System. They will receieve Feedback PM's from MFS Desginates. Upon receiving these PM's, Council members should do the two follwing things: 1. Quickly scan the PM for any red text-this text has been flagged during the Designate's Review 2. Copy and paste the PM in its entirety-including colors and text effects-into an archive forum or topic. VIII. Archiving Feedback Submissions Feedback should be archived in a level 3 Forum for privacy, and should be categorized by Mentor Name and organized by date of submittal. |

This plan looks workable. The who to send feedback to needs a lil work. Time zones are world wide. 24 hours seems like a good plan. I know I'm on the forum a few times a day myself so that should be fine.
