Rules . . .

By rachellove9 on 21/09/2009
This is about how we run as a clan. We sometimes have personalities that may need a little room for the rules to be bent. Is that really a problem?

Council seems to have taken the idea that rules are written in stone on our hearts and must follow a No exceptions way of leading us.

This is your chance to voice if you agree with this or think they need to use good judgment and allow some bending.

I am not going to point out any particular thing that I've seen this as an issue to sway anyone's votes. I always personally think that less rules is a better way to manage a happier group. I lead things in real life with this approach and it is very successful. Guidelines are better than strict rules in my opinion.

As everyone else thus far, i've gone with 2. A clan with fixed rules is a harsh buracuracy destined to fail. This is a computer game after all.

Btw, aren't 4 and 5 the same? 5 seems a bit pointless ; )

By rachellove9 on 21/09/2009
Well yah 4 and 5 are the same but 5 is just for the truly heartless ones.

v0ted fuh 2 lulz.

By Quikdrawjoe on 21/09/2009
I voted 3 because a lot of them these exceptions are just because a staff member let's their personal feeling decide the whole issue. If the exception actually has some benefit for the whole clan and not just personal feelings of the staff then I see the need.

LOL COLIN.

Voted 2.

I am with Joe on #3. Mainly because there are a lot of times where people need to tighten up instead of screwing around. If people think that WG is currently at a #3, then they are wrong. It is more like a #1.5 or so.

My view is coming from where I saw WG before I went Emeritus though, so disregard it if you think we have truly changed.

I think everything should be a case by case basis.

By VEPHYSAURAS on 21/09/2009
Case by case is a good way to put it. Decisions should be worded and expressed objectively as well.

By rachellove9 on 21/09/2009
Nick, I don't see WG as a place that treats members badly. The rules we have in place are mostly their to protect us overall as a clan. I just sometimes think that becoming to firm on things where being flexible could work better.

w00t!! I love voting and finding out that most think the same way I do! biggrin.gif

I think that the rules should be stood by with strong people who will punish the rule breakers. There really should be no exceptions because the situation happens again in the future. Mugger was a example. If you break the rules then you better ready yourself for whats coming.

By Mmangler on 01/10/2009
Voted 1 because everyone makes mistakes except those who vote 4 or 5 since they are perfect or they are perfect which I thought myself to be but I was mistaken.

By Mangomaniac2 on 01/10/2009
Went with 3. 2 and 3 are basically the same idea, and 4 and 5 are basically also the same, except 5 is worded so that it makes you feel evil if you believe that, which shouldn't happen.

No matter what the council decides, people will always go against them. If they do exceptions, people cry favoritism, and if they do no exceptions, people say they're cruel and way too harsh. There is no way to please everyone, so whatever the council decides will be accepted by me (also, I'm emeritus, so less say blush.gif )

I read this topic once before, but this time, something stuck out at me. Many times that people post topics like this, its because they have one good friend who was banned and the poster wants the friend to be able to come back to WG. Am I close or completely off base here Rachel? (No personal attack to you, was just curious as to your motive of making this topic).

Well tbh a few things happened that I didn't agree with.

Now that most have voted I will tell the main things:

1. I didn't approve of how Edi was treated over a funeral. She felt forced to leave the clan after receiving a warn lvl. The warn lvl should of been removed imo.

2. Even though I may agree with council on the Colin issue over all, I still feel he should of been warned like all the others before they kicked him. I like things to be fair and they should of been much more mature on this too. They could of given him 5 days or something.

3. Sometimes it seems that if you haven't been in WG long time, you get dumped on. I would like the newer members, trials and intro to be accepted in WG community better. Sometimes they need exceptions to rules just cause they are new and unfamiliar with us.

4. I've been watching how warn lvls are given and removed. I'm not sure, but I see some people get their levels left on for months. I think anything over 60 or 90 days is just like beating a child 3 days after they did the offense. Who even really remembers what it was about. I know they have guidelines on this but I would hope no one has anything older than 90 days on their warn logs. I do have two friends that this one was for.

Off topic: This came about after the post, but I will just add this in here. I see an older member say terrible things in IRC (only guest I believe), it is all ignored by the staff. Probably cause they respect the person and don't know how to react, but some other member that is less liked by staff gets a ban and warn lvl added. This to me is bias. This is why some people voted 4 and 5, I'm sure.

Overall, the post means to me that most of WG sees rules very clearly need to be forced on the clan. However, wisdom gives us the chance to have exceptions to this. Lately with lil amount of staff on IRC, I see the mess this can leave us all in.

If any staff or member would like to discuss this further, please pm me in irc or on the forum. I am always open for discussion. Since only 2 event leaders responded to the forum pm that I sent to all of council and I think almost everyone in staff, I don't look for any response to this either. I was under the impression that Council would reply to all pm's sent to them. I guess I'm not one they want to chat with.

By the way thanks to everyone for reading. Now that I explained my concerns I am locking the post cause Voting is no longer unbias.
