Teams vs Clans?
By Mickey on 24/09/2009
This is something that's came to mind every time I see a team of some sort posting in the Clan Discussion section of RSC.
There are Clans, and there are Teams. I see teams fighting real clans all the time, and then the team posts a victory on public forums, such as RSC. I have nothing against teams, I mean, if your current clan allows it, and it makes Runescape more fun for you then why not?
I see teams entering clan tournaments.
I see teams fighting other clans for ranks.
I see teams posting on clan discussion forums.
Two questions:
1. What are your thoughts on teams?
2. What are your thoughts on teams participating in clan activities?
1. What are your thoughts on teams? Like I said above, if your clan allows it, and it makes your Runescape experience more fun, go for it.
2. What are your thoughts on teams participating in clan activities? I think it's unacceptable. Teams usually consist of people specialized in the teams overall field, with some of the most capable fall in leaders from random clans leading the team.
I'm pretty sure most of the clans that actually fight teams would do better if they could recruit members from random clans, so it's hardly fair that the team can claim ranks.
By WG_Keanu on 24/09/2009
1. What are your thoughts on teams?
Excuse to multiclan.
2. What are your thoughts on teams participating in clan activities?
Fuck off.
By Stokenut on 24/09/2009
Going pking with your friends is fine.
Inviting the odd friend or allied clan to PK with your own clan is fine.
But there becomes a point where this goes too far.
Forums, memberlists, application processes, RSC topics, rankings... enough is enough.
The label "team" does not substitute as an excuse to multi-clan.
Even if my clan allowed it I wouldn't do it.
I guess it comes down to your own personal honour code. Mine for example, I've always refused to kill skillers and those in the wilderness not looking for a fight, such as EP gainers and brawling glove users.
I describe my PKing style as Anti-RPKing. A value that WG used to uphold and be most well known by. But that's swaying slightly off topic.
I personally disagree with it and make my point heard, but as for the people themselves that do it, it doesn't make me see them any differently.
Like members of RoT or DF, they play the game and have different views on what is the best and most enjoyable way to use clan life. (NH, F2P) opposed to mine, (Honour, P2P). So I guess it's a case of having mutual respect for people of all types.
I feel that "teams" should not be allowed to post on RSC and compete in tournaments or fights for ranks though.
tl;dr - What Keanu just said, but politely.
By Mickey on 24/09/2009
Nice to see someone with a strong opinion on this subject give their view.
By Groedius on 24/09/2009
Well i think being on a team is ok if your clan allows it
As for teams participating in clan tournaments its kinda unfair however usually you have to fight for clan or team you cant represent both in the same thing so i could not represent wg and LND on the RSC ranks i believe so that is fine.
Only reason really im in a team is just for fun and more fights and practice. LND have around 3 - 4 wars a week at good time for me a friendly community and its just good fun generally and a nice easy way to practice and polish up on my F2P skills of hybriding sniping and tanking. In fact being in a team for F2P CWA is probably the easiest way to learn to do those things.

Considering the topic at hand, I WAS being polite. There are points when I wonder who's worse - Jagex or the clan world.

Excuse to multi-clan?
When LND fought WG, I fought for WG. WG events trump all LND Wars. I am still one of the most active people in WG whilst being in 2 teams.
As groedius said, the teams I'm in just offer me some fun on the side. The people are great and I have a lot of fun in them. It doesn't make me a multi-clanner. I still am and will always be WG til the end of my Scaping.
I don't think that they should be able to compete in clan tourny's though.

If I still played RS I'd go for a team rather than a clan, just because it's more satisfying.
By Quikdrawjoe on 24/09/2009
I don't see what's wrong with teams fighting clans or posting it's not like there is a Team Discussion forum and if there was it would be pretty small. I'm against them participating in clan tournaments and such unless it's a specific team category or something which I haven't seen yet. LND does participate in TWR but that's mostly so we can get fights because people decline because you're a team (I see the reasoning but there's no reason not to have a fun fight).

1. What are your thoughts on teams?
They're alright. You tend to get people with more similar interested then in clans. Alot of them want to enhance their RS experience.
2. What are your thoughts on teams participating in clan activities?
I dont think that they should be allowed in like tourneys. Teams have an obvious advantage - They can recruit from alot more, many people who join teams are more skilled then average, etc. I dont think they should be allowed to compete for ranks. However, a fight with a team is alright.

What he's saying is, you get the full meal (WG)
Finish your meal, but then instead of ordering an extra portion of fries (more wars) you go and get them from another joint.
By Tnuac on 25/09/2009
They shouldn't be anywhere near Clan Discussion, they're not clans.
But even if they do post wins, they definitely shouldn't be let on clan lists or tornaments
By Samurai-JM on 25/09/2009
teams lol. I posted once earlier that this is what lvl 30's used to do in lvl 3 varrock wilderness on a much bigger scale, it's a joke. Joining a clan is supposed to be like making a contractual agreement to STAY in that clan and not go with other clans right? Well... what's a team? ANOTHER CLAN. I don't even play this game and I can see that this is wrong.

1. What are your thoughts on teams?
I think they're fine. I'm (was) in AF. It gives me a little extra of what I want. I think you get a different experience from a team than you do from a clan.
2. What are your thoughts on teams participating in clan activities?
I think they shouldn't be able to participate in clan activities as they aren't full fledged clans.
At the same time, I think posting win topics is fine. Sure they're not a clan. But if they beat a clan why not just say "Hey, we beat them and this is how it went down."
When talking about ranks, it all depends on how you look at it. I view ranks as all encapsulating. So you ask about the best P2P force, AF will be listed, you ask about the best P2P CLANS and they won't.
By Ragingwealth on 26/09/2009
To me I view it as a way for multi clanning unless its a P2P team if you're in a F2P clan/F2P team if you're in a p2p clan. Most of them do everything that a clan does (They even fight clans, Lol), and still sticks with the phrase 'Team' instead of 'Clan'
By David on 26/09/2009
I don't get how fighting a clan makes any difference?
I suppose using clan chat makes them a clan as well?
God forbid they set up forums! I mean only clans are allowed such things!

I would argue that there's loads of time for WG to add in F2P PvP to the schedule but I'll join WG first and get an opinion before I make any judgements. I still think it could be balanced though. You don't essentially need to be in more than one syndicate to enjoy your preferences in the variety of what RS has to offer.
By David on 28/09/2009
Just because you don't need something doesn't mean you can't also have it though.
I honestly don't get what the whole fuss is. So people really like one aspect of RS but also really like WG. Just so happens WG isn't as into their particular niche as they'd like, but they like WG enough to stick with it despite that.
Call it multi-clanning or whatever.
How is a team different from a big group of friends that go PKing every so often. They have forums? So what? Why can't they be organized? They have TS or Vent, so? They're restricted to using specific applications? They fight clans? So? Like a clan gives a shit who they fight, they're out there to kill people and they'll kill whoever comes across.
