1 mile tower?

By Kiwi011 on 31/03/2008
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811

I dunno, I read it and know its going to be tried but seriously. I think its an idiotic project. Its expensive as hell and, seriously, the wind at 1mile high are huge....something that tall is already pretty unstable and wind is a hell too.......I know they take calculations and im not a professional but I don't think this could be done. I would Never own a building near that tower, because if it falls, every building near it is going down too.....not to mention working in it, who the hell would be crazy enough to work on the top floors.......i Mean you need oxygen at 10k ft in the air.....its going to be cold and freezing temperatures at 5k ft and having to work with that, and wind is crazy....but yea....i think its kind of reakless and will cuase way to many deaths creating it. That big and a small bomb on one side/corner would destroy it and kill how many 40k+ people if its full? Bleh, but yea comments?

comments?

Gl, but in the end, I will say "Gf, epic phail"

Waste of money fuel and resources that could actually be put to some fricking good use...Prats.

By Karlfischer on 31/03/2008
If they can pull it off, and I hope they do, it truly would be amazing.

lol... it will be crazy to visit. also like 500000 years to make.

also, waste of money, but hey... he has it lol.

Would be damn impressive if they can actually get it built.

Someone woke up and decided "I want to make a lot of people die." I would never work in that, ever.

London likes to stay on the ground too much XD

But seriously lol, England is nothing special, we are crap and tend to spend more money on Medical Care, Security and Immigrants =D

Anyway, this tower looks great, if they actually build it, it would be a great accomplishment by the human race# Hell, I might go visit one day and go to the top floor..or not lol, Depends what I'm like when I'm older.

There must be MASSIVE security and protection on that thing. Lol, it's funny, CN tower used to be the tallest, then Dubai, then this just 2x Dubai lolol.

Poor London 7 times smaller....

I'm sure they'll manage to make it.
Also , I'm sure they will take wind etc into consideration.

The Burj Dubai. Construction began in 2005 and is expected to be complete by 2008. At an estimated height of over 800 meters, it will easily the be world's tallest building when finished. It will be almost 40% taller than the the current tallest building, the Taipei 101.

This is what downtown Dubai will look like around 2008-2009. Fifty stories (around 190 meters) of the Burj Dubai have already been completed.

The exact height of the building is being kept strictly confidential for reasons of competition. Since the Al Burj and Burj Dubai are both striving to become the world's tallest building, it is rumored that the Al Burj will be built a little higher since the Burj Dubai will be completed first.
The Burj al Alam, or The World Tower. Upon completion it will rank as the world's highest hotel. It is expected to be finished by 2009.

*The Dubai World Central International Airport will become the largest airport in size when it is completed. It will also eventually become the busiest airport in the world, based on passenger volume.
*There are more construction workers in Dubai than there are actual citizens (although Dubai does has a 80% expatriate population).

Dubai is such a waste of time and money. Who the **** decided to build a bunch of **** in the middle of the desert?

It looks like the Arabs finally decided to start spending all of their money.

Oh and the 1 mile tower thing is utterly pointless as well. But if they want to spend their money like that, then who's to stop them? wacko.gif

Whats wrong with making cities in a desert anyway?
You arent cutting down lots of trees to make a city and
you're building it on land thats pretty useless.

And yeah I just came back from Dubai last Friday, it's amazing, but the people there are just... too many. And like, 10% of them are Arabs, the rest are all foreigners laugh.gif

London likes to stay on the ground too much XD

/me puts on his patriotic hat...

That's because London is mostly built on clay, which is too weak to support very high buildings. Were London on Hard rocks like Granite, we'd likely be bigger than New York tongue.gif It's not our fault sad.gif

As for this 1-mile high tower, i think that when they manage to get it done, it will certainly be something to visit, however i don't think i'd be comfortable visiting the top, especially as it will be one of the biggest Terror Targets. Also, Up at one mile high, like i think many have already mentioned, the winds are ferocious, and the exposure to the sun during the day is also very strong. The top of the tower will reach burning temperatures during the day and freezing temperatures during the night. All that heating and cooling would likely be enough to negatively effect any building.

I predict seeing a tragedy on the news in the future sad.gif

I hear Dubai is awesome. Some of that stuff is crazy, but I'd be way to freaked to stay at a hotel underwater, just imagine...one small crack.

Seriously though, it's like Dubai has some sort of complex where they must be the best at everything or they die. Who cares though, that's some amazing stuff.

I'd be way to freaked to go up to the top floor of that tower...it'd be faster to jump out the window and use a parachute than to use an elevator. Maybe a pulley system?

Why are so many people saying conditions at 1 mile of height are atrocious?

Many cities are located above a mile in height and people aren't burnt, deformed, sun isn't of that high exposure etc... 1 mile is high for a single building, but in terms of altitude, it isn't extravagant for humans at all. tongue.gif

ok look at it this way. 1 mile high in a sea level area. In a desert. Winds are going to be hell when there are no wind breaks. The sand itself will be blowing in that wind at that high it will be painful. The sand hitting the building will erode it maybe. Thats what it seems like to me.
