A different approach to recruitment
By Planolocal on 16/10/2009
I was on RSC today (first day of Krewtin' Kru), and I noticed that all the clans are trying to throw as many pixels as they can at people trying to join clans. Personally, if I were looking at that I would be bored, so I tried a new approach to recruiting someone by saying this.

Hey man, I can throw banners and external links in here all day... But if you wanna clan that is really going to enrich your Runescape career, and bring you a community like none other, then you should go with the Wilderness Guardians. We are a great f2p and p2p friendly clan with high combat, and fun-loving members.
CHECK US OUT: http://www.wildernessguardians.com
Can't wait to see you there.
Much love, ~Plano (P0ne)

I thought it got the point across and cut through the bullshit. Is this a good technique? What do you think?
By DZ on 16/10/2009
Yeah, try and make it a personal approach.
What you have there is a good outline. You can also add in "you said you wanted a clan that does [this] [this] and [this], well WG does all of those and much more" etc.
I think the more personalized the approach is the better.

I'd say send that in a pm, I personally like our cookie cutter :>

yeah fo sho DZ.

Should try to include some of the template so the post doesn't get lost but personalize to them on the topic and a PM.
By rachellove9 on 17/10/2009
That would be better for me than the template but I'm sure using a combo of things would be great.
By For Sooth on 17/10/2009
I say still use the main template, but also send that in PM, as you are supposed to send a pm also.

Personal, yes, but short statements like that aren't competitive enough. The best way remains through personal contact in RSC PM and genuine conversation.

This.
What's often cool is to read what he's looking for, choose one very good significant screenshot of, for example, the type of event he wants, and make a short statement.

I agree. While an epic reply with about 10000kb worth of banners and .GIFs is kinda impressive, I myself would be more likely to join a clan that's 1. Short, 2. Simple and 3. Personal.
And of course, appealing to my needs and interests.
