Simplicity.
By Elyxiatic on 03/12/2009
All the systems, rules, regulations and processes we have in WG are ok.
But does it make the clan too complicated?
Honestly take a think about it.
Our ways of doing things, have only got more + more complicated over the years.
Has this taken away the fun that WG used to be?
Simplicity is paramount for easy understanding.
I'm tending to think the ways WG do things these days are too complicated for most people to understand, and stick with.
The big changes with staff/systems in the past 2 yrs have been:
- Event attendance
- Event point system
- Guardian score
- Skill of the week
- Combat skill of the week
- WG Pures
- The Outpost
- Achievement of the week
- Skill Olympics
- Teamspeak system integrated with forums
Maybe the reason people aren't interested is because its too hard to be bothered with all of our systems.
I hate junking up things in a clan.
We've put in place all these ideas, with increased workload for all the staff, and has it really changed much? No.
We're still lacking in pvp, we still need to make a name for ourselves.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're bad ideas.
But why did we bother putting more systems inside of an already complicated clan?
I did like old school, when all of these systems weren't in place, and it was a more simple clan. It was more fun back then, and you bonded with the people more instead of spending half the day bothering with systems, sign-ups, etc etc.
Maybe simplicity is the key to a successful clan.
Discuss.

your right simplicity is the key but these changes i feel have been put inplace to help members get to know one another and try to promote more activity within WG and its allies and i really have no problem with the changes

I'm not saying its directly those changes.
Actually I can't think for the life of me what 'big' change made this clan complicated to work through.
Maybe its a combination of every single small change.

that maybe true but change is for the best and besides change in inevitable
"what we are always changes but who we are never changes" (meaning what we are either a pvp clan or a skills clan or both may change but who we are as a whole will never change we will always remain Wilderness Guardians)

Getting way off topic.
I'm not questioning who we are.
I'm questioning the systems we're hiding behind.
By WG_Keanu on 03/12/2009
- Event attendance - Fairly neccesary for activity, not that hard to spare 5 minutes and update it after events
- Event point system - As above
- Guardian score - I like this
- Skill of the week - Meh soso
- Combat skill of the week - Soso
- WG Pures - When was the last time...?
- The Outpost - What is the overall reward?
- Achievement of the week - I don't get achievements so I dunno
- Skill Olympics - Soso
- Teamspeak system integrated with forums - How is this a problem?
Simplicity is good, but I woudn't say WG is completley overcomplicated.
By Eregion2 on 03/12/2009
I agree completely, and I have for several years. No one ever listened though, so eventually I shut up about it. The system we're upholding now was put into place when we had +200 members; it's entirely irrelevant to the current WG (imo) and just adds more busy work for the staff. Practically everything could be laid aside while WG goes back to concentrating on the core, and then reinstated as the clan expands and it makes more sense.
Anyway, I hope you have better luck than I did; WG'ers have moronically thick skulls about some things.

Wow, they opened it up to Emeritus/retirees. That's really unexpected.
Let me think about this.
PS: Why'd you have to do it two days before finals? Why?
By Quikdrawjoe on 03/12/2009
I'll have to think further on this. TS integrated with forums is actually simpler except for Robbie
By Indivi2you on 03/12/2009
Event attendance and the Event attendance system hasn't changed much in 2 years.
Before it used to be:
post screenie of attendees on recap.
and staff updates into the event attendance topic.
Now it is:
post screenie of attendees on recap.
and staff updates into the event attendance tracker.
Only people who should be worrying about it is the RL and EL.
By sgtswordfish on 03/12/2009
the systems are fine and are ideal for the large variety we have as a clan. plus it gives leadership something to do. keeps the game and clan challenged.
the only difference is that most people don't have a clue why to do things. there's no purpose nor motive.
systems are fine, simplicity could be a new standard. lacking is not.
By Randy on 04/12/2009
Agreed on some disagreed on others. I will cover all of your systems/changes that you listed:
-Event attendance/points - Every clan would KILL for this sytem. Our event attendance system is by far superior to any system in the clan world. This is one of the best features about WG, it's organized, simple and rewarding. Very neccesary.
-Guardian Score - WG has had an awards system since it's early days. GS is nothing more than putting a point value on them. Althoughth the competitive factor I hoped for isn't really there, it's still a nice change to the pre-existent feature.
-Sotw/Csotw - I personally don't particiapte in these because I don't train skills much, but from what I see it seems to be active. The event leaders seem to be handling it well. This also opens up a varierty of event to encourage people to attend to train that particular skill.
-WG Pures - I think this should be removed. Itstarted off great but we lost the motivation for it. Everyone's pure is a different level and it's hard to get events going.
-The Outpost - It's new. The first month had a decent turnout. Only the future will tell what we do with it. I think it works but it hasn't been advertised enough.
-Aotw - Old WG used to have something similar. I remember the council would put achievments on a scrolling marquee at the top. As long as we have the will to do this I don't see why not.
-Skill Olympics - This is only a rare event. The turnout always seems to be great. I see no problems here.
-TS and forums - I think the feature is great and secure. I only wish we could temporairly disable it at times for when we raid with allies.

By Mmangler on 04/12/2009
I agree but I think some of us just need to get used to the systems especially if you are system challenged like myself. I need to work on my guardian score.
By rachellove9 on 05/12/2009
Only thing I can say is that there sometimes is so many things that go by the week to do that it is hard to fit them all in. Like when we had TipIt, Skill of the Week and Combat skill of the week all overlapping. Then like regular training and whatever else was going on. It just becomes more difficult when you want to do all of them.
With all that going on, then when some event comes up its like "wut, I b working on dis."
By Sxe Asher on 05/12/2009
Ok since I'm a new member I'll adress these topics the way I first reacted when I joined WG.
- Event attendance
I thought it was kind of cool how this was tracked but its honestly not needed. I'm not saying it should be removed, but if it were to be removed, I don't think it would cause too many problems.
- Event point system
Same as above. Its neat and helpful, but if WG did not have it, I don't think any one would notice a difference in daily clan life. Again, I'm not saying we should remove it.
- Guardian score
Same as above 2
- Skill of the week
Its can be fun but as this is a Warring Clan, most people don't enjoy skilling
- Combat skill of the week
Fun to compete with.
- WG Pures
These are not uses anymore so I don't understand why anyone should have a problem with them.
- The Outpost
No clue what this is?
- Achievement of the week
Its neat. It allows the members to know what everyone else is doing and achieving during the week.
- Skill Olympics
I don't like skilling but I guess it could be fun as a clan event.
- Teamspeak system integrated with forums
I LOVE TEAMSPEAK! Its so much better than IRC
So yeah, thats just my view of them as a new member.

I have to agree with Keanu, i dont see nothing complicated here.
Maybe some poeple forget why this chaanges have been introduced.
Attendance - easyest way how to find out who is active and who isnt
SoTW & CSoTW - to keep ppl active and improve our levels
The Outpust - to reward the best pvp hunters
AoTW - i havent participated now, but i hope to have some coll achievemnts for this competiotion soon
Skill Olympics - best event ever

each skiller like it; its always explained to new members what is it for an event before it starts
TS - all is done now, so we dont need to care, just to log on TS during events
Simplicity is easy.

I think WG pures should be removed, I don't see anyone participating in it for the last two months. I also have no idea what the outpost is, it's currently in someones sig, but other that that, no clue...

Maybe they could change it to whoever gets the most kills during PvP raids each month wins something. What, I have no idea. But maybe just recognition?
