Analyzing Updates #1

My review-

OMG A NEW PVP MINIGAME!!!!!!!!!!!
But wait, let us look into this closer.

Pvp - Player versus Player.
Is this really even implimented in the game? Yes, you chase a noob holding a stone across the field, but is that what we originally did in the wilderness? Am I even fighting him?

The game is pretty much a cat and mouse, hide and seek, catch me if you can type thing. At one point, I thought to myself, "Is there really any stratedgy to this?"
Running in circles, hiding in houses that make you invisible omghash.gif.png , you'll end up finding yourself doing the same old thing every round. If the hunted chooses to fight back, it's near impossible, having your stats drained to pretty much nothing. Oh, and did I mention the match ups? P2p is alright, but f2p is a joke. The level differences are so great you'll find yourself koing your target and tanking for 2k+ charge.

Like I mentioned earlier, is there any stratedgy? The only thing iv'e seen people do have their hunter chase them all the way to the wall and tele crystal back. Oh, wait, don't forget the occasional house whore. Yeah, the ones that sit and teleport the whole ten minuges. Happen to you yet? One game I literally chase a guy house to house, wasting ten minutes of my life... for tokens.

The tokens. What are they good for?
If your a regular poster on Runescape Community, you cannot deny the amount of whining from f2p players that they get nothing. Well, of course you get nothing, you pay nothing. That's like walking into a resteraunt and asking for free food. So, Jagex decidees to be nice, hey, we'll give them some items. But DAYUUUMM. That's a lot of items, and by a lot, I mean 3 sets of robes, a coif, 7 pairs of gauntlets, 4 shields, and various skill gloves. Alright, I admit, it's fun for f2p clan wars and such. But how about the people who actually pay for this? We got mediocre dragon gauntlets which have barely significant defense over barrows gloves and a joke strength bonus. The shields are statistically worse then all the primary used p2p shields (dfs, obby, defender, etc.). Oh and the coifs, LOL. The robes are all worse than ahrims.

Wow. If Jagex is somehow trying to bring back the wilderness, adding a whole bunch of mediocre waste of space games is a horrible idea. One, two, maybe three GREAT games would suffice.

Anyway, here's my final score (On a scale of 1-10):
Content: 3/10 - Fresh new ideas, horrible replay value, no stratedgy involved.
Graphics: 7/10 - Decent for runescape graphics, but nothing special.
Prizes: 9/10 for f2p, 4/10 for p2p.

Overall: 4/10 - Sorry Jagex, but building up hype for a pvp minigame would be the wrong move when the game is not even pvp based. Nothing fun about it.

Hmmm, I do agree it is repetitive, however I am sure those mage robes could have some impact upon f2p CWA?

You have to wonder why you would ever bother with the black D coif (or any coif for that matter) as the time it takes to get one is fairly long and then you have to recharge them every so often..... Might as well just fork out for a robin or sara/zammy/guthix coif?

The Herb Gauntlets could be helpful IMO? if you wanted kwurams in particular it would be good, and the slayer gloves are something I look foward to getting (any extra slayer XP will be nice) though I do agree that the other P2p awards are hopeless, and the f2p awards are only mediocre....

I look foward to the GE Database that apparently is ready for later this month

Fog is good for one thing, and one thing only.

Tanking practice.

Guess I should go there for that.

Tbh the only things you people should get are

Rune berserker shield - give str bonus and more def bonus
Rune Gauntlets - best gloves and lowers mage atk by -1
Full druidic - When put all together at once it increases the chance of binds/snares/entangles. Each peice gives more mage bonus then blue mage robes. They also give more defence. Also to add they come with a skirt that gives mage bonus and defence better then chaps

Overall getting the 2 rune items mentioned cost: 500 tokens
Full druidic cost: 600 tokens

Getting those certain items will help us in clan wars. But getting the tokens will be a pain.

And in f2p yes your right you can ko your target easy if you find them. But your target can also take you out easy. A level 50+ can hit averagly hard on you its suprising. And mage is wayyy over powered.

Btw, the max number of points you can get in a game is 5k. smile.gif Someone I know hit it today when she got paired up with a lvl-3.

Hmm, haven't tried it yet. But I generally hate the idea of mini-games. I'd rather have the epic, unpredictable, 'open-world' sensation of the wilderness.

Hmph...Another attempt to bring back wat the old wildy was failed...people in game clearly hated it and Jagex will soon be telling how hard they are working to make it more exciting and rewarding...same as happened to BH. Yes, it does have a few good thing but the overall of the minigame sux. Y dont they just stop trying? I mean bring back the wildy or stop making crappy minigames...

After Jagex add some more rewards, and fix a few twitches (namely the inbalence of level pairing, there will be a lot less people complaining.

The game isn't that good; they promised us with a "strategy game". You're right, there is absolutely nothing related to strategy in this game.

The only thing that is worth playing this game for is its rewards.

Had i still been in no clan, i would have agreed with you 100%, however, now that i am in one, i will be going to CWA for F2P Wars. These new robes and shields will proove to be very useful to me, as anyone there could have full rune, but it takes time to get these new items, it brings a sense of achievement to F2P rather than simply buying these items on P2P with your many millions and moving over to F2P to fight.

I do agree with you, for the majority of time i spend on P2P servers, i will find most of these items relatively useless. The shark gloves and dragon slayer gloves are in fact the only real useful items i can see.

As for the game itself, once again i must agree with you, the basic idea is terrible. They replace the wilderness and say they are bringing out 'pvp' games, and they release for us this, this mockery of pvp. You don't even get to fight eachother in it, it's just a case of who can find who first amongst the many 'safe houses' which people regularly use to hide for the entire 10 minutes.

Overall, I think the only way Jagex can save this is if they:

1) Dramatically increase the number of P2P rewards. Give somethings useful, GP for example? In the wilderness, you could earn money through your PK skills. Why not here?

2) Make it old-style PK gear only.

3) Remove the unlimited runes crap (Yes, it's good for XP and you may think it's good for fighting, however it's useless when everyone in the entire arena has it... it becomes a game of 'Who can barrage out your opponent first')

4) Get rid of the safe houses, or set a limit on how long you can be in there, and how often you can enter them.

5) Find a way to make fighting two way instead of one way.

Amen.

By Elyxiatic on 10/04/2008
Meh.
High levels can get the items easier.
I do like it atm, as many lower lvls do not know to hug the houses + such.
So I think I'll get a lot of tokens within its first few days.
However, I don't want lvls to be matched up.
This would see many more "house huggers"

Overall, I like the items.
A new set of robes which I already have biggrin.gif
They give a +14 mage bonus with rune kite equipped.
Normally you'd have a +3 mage bonus with other items.
On top of this, the binds hit more often.

New rune shield is meh, rune gauntlets looks good.
