#wg_lobby

By JC on 14/04/2008
Hi guys,

I have noticed that to enter #wg_lobby you must have a registered nick now.... why is that?

it is particularily annoying as I normally join #wg_lobby when I join IRC and now I just get this as a message:

QUOTE
(477)  #wg_lobby :You need a registered nick to join that channel.

Is there any reason for this?

Yes, it gives an extra layer of protection - As my bot works on nicknames, without that, someone who wanted into #wg would only have to change their nick to say... His_lordship, join #wg_lobby, and he/she would get access to #wg. Then, all he has to do is change his nick to something else before NickServ kicks him off the nick.

With it on there, someone who wants in has to find an IRC nickname that isn't registered, and get in on that. So long as everyone keeps their IRC nicknames up to date, everything should be fine.

We Need +R. It makes it much more secure, we have a new system, check IA.

All you need to do before you join #Wg_Lobby is type /ns id <pass>

(19:51:53) <+maths> d axe
(19:51:54) <+maths> d axe
(19:51:54) <@Evil[Crafting]> they cant unless we take off mode +r
(19:52:07) <+maths> lol, zerker + d axe this trip
(19:52:13) <+Raging_Mage2> solo?
(19:52:18) <+maths> yeah
(19:52:26) <@His_Lordship> take it off
(19:52:35) <@His_Lordship> and keep it off permanently

and I thought.... The idea behind making lobby +r only is to stop people infiltrating #wg.... so why not just make #wg +r only instead? so anyone could join #wg lobby, but to join #wg they will have to have registered....

The annoying thing about #wg_lobby being +r only is that I normally join into that channel when I first join IRC and I have to put in an extra step now (Id'ing before I join)....

An invite will overrule that. Same as a ban and a channel limit. So no, that has to stay on.

Also, Mugger posted this helpful little script on the actual IRC topic;

QUOTE (Mugger)
on *:CONNECT: {
if ($network == SwiftIRC) {
  ns id PASSWORD
  join #Wg_Lobby
  join #WG
}
}

it's for mIRC, so if you don't have it go to www.mIRC.com
