Buddy Skills TACTICS
By George on 12/07/2010
Ok, so Jagex has released the newest Jagex Cup Skills.
This week it is two PAIRED skills that they call 'Buddy Skills', ie - two skills that compliment each other:
FISHING AND COOKING.
The rules are very similar to mining, except for the following:
NO raw fish can be dropped or traded, but must ALL be cooked. Cooked fish may be dropped.
Cooking barbarian fish (by cutting into roe/caviar) is forbidden.
We still need to come up with a list of TEN people who will represent us.
So what should we do?
I believe we should have ten people who are good at both fishing and cooking.
On the ML we currently have 10 99 fishers + 21 99 cookers, so that's all good...
But when the competition begins, what should we do? We need to get the best fishing AND cooking exps possible in one hour.
Current Suggestions:
1. Piscatoris - Fish Monkfish, Run South-West and cook on range. Drop.
2. Barbarian - Fish there, take an axe + tinderbox, cook on fires OR get someone else to light fires.
The disadvantage of 1 is that the range is quite a distance from the fish spot.
The disadvantage of 2 is that you have to spend time lighting a fire...
So, does anyone have any suggestions?
Or indeed, does anyone care to try out these techniques for an hour and see what works?

Shilo fishing maybe?
By George on 12/07/2010
But the cooking exp from cooking trout + salmon can't be that fast?
Also:
This time, we will take only the four best hours of skilling but each session must be at least two hours long.

wtf....

The right method will be the only way to win.
So there has to be some trial and error testing methods with same conditions. Two people need to test.

Can you bank??
By Zemus3654 on 12/07/2010
rocktails maybe?
By Jayson on 12/07/2010
you gotta count the fact that you get more cooking xp for fish that fishing it, so you want something that gives the best cooking xp per inventory time taken to fish it.
right now I would say maybe monks or sharks/swordfish may be the fastest, and we can have someone lighting fires for the fishers.
just get someone to check how long it takes to catch monks and then how long it takes to catch swords/sharks
just get me xp p/hr for monks, but for trout/salmon and sword/sharks, count how many of each you get so i can get a rough estimate of percentages etc.
shouldnt be hard to work out once i get xp p/hr and how many fish you get

Swordies catch with tuna, not great cooking xp surely?

umm, fishing guild has sharks + swordies isnt it?
if not, then its just monks vs shilo
By Rodney75 on 12/07/2010
Shark spots are just sharks. But rick lob familiar gets swords and sharks.
Think you are right with monks vs shilo, but do we know anything on cavefish and rocktail? Or just too slow to fish?
By Hollow_Fyre on 12/07/2010
I'd say sharks are out because they are slow to fish...even at 99 it sometimes takes me 15 - 20 minutes a load...they are what I fish when I want a break and plenty of afk time tbh. They are also less exp than monks to fish, even though they are better cooking exp I dont think it balances them out.
I think monks and then cooking on a fire near the bank is the best bet without testing it...thats just based on experience fishing and the fact a 99 cooker never burns monks.
With Rocktails/Cavefish I know the speed is slower than fishing monks, but idk if its actually slower exp/hr. Also, I could be insane but isn't there a permanent fire down there near the bank?
By Indivi2you on 12/07/2010
I'm not 99 cooking or fishing, but if you guys want me to do some trials and test exps i'll surely do it. Just hit me up.
Edit: And also, as for cooking I think we should have somebody who isn't part of the team light fires. Maybe if somebody wants to train firemaking get them. So it's auto fish, then easy cook right there by the fires, then either drop or bank.
By Rodney75 on 12/07/2010
I want to compete. If I can't, I'll help with fires...

Someone can trade trade cash for fish and then drop the fish for the person.
Also people need to look at this guide:
Fast Dropping By VEPHYSAURAS on 12/07/2010
No trading or banking is allowed I think. Even dropping isn't allowed lol, nom nom nom? Rofl.

Edit: Wait, I think its raw fish, never mind I guess. Be careful not to drop anything raw tho...

Obviously have someone do firemaking at the Colony, there's plenty of lanes and they can do it right next to the fishing spot. Alternatively, the fisher carries a tinderbox and log and then banks the cooked fish and takes out another log.

You cannot bank resources, and I would assume that includes withdrawing logs as they specifically say:

During the session you must not trade, bank or drop resources. Resources are defined as logs, raw fish or any other processable materials in the drawn skill.

I'd be happy to do some FM'ing for someone at some point..... I need to train that a bit, so if someones at monks and needs a hand feel free to ask
By George on 12/07/2010
Ok so it looks like Piscatoris (AT THE MOMENT) is the SUGGESTED fastest exp.
Obviously we need to get this tested - so if anyone can do a test for one hour and tell us your exp (fish + cook) that would be very helpful.
Treat it like the real thing - no disallowed items, no dropping of raw fish etc.
It would be a very good idea to pair everyone in the team with a fm'er... will look into this tomorrow.
Saad - that would be most helpful - thanks a lot.

What if you were to fish rocks and tele to edge cook and run back down. Is the transit too great?

With that, that makes me think that it is just going to be fish from fishing. And that doesn't answer if you can bank cooked fish.
I will probably do 15 to 30 minute sessions when I get home from work.
By Mmangler on 12/07/2010
What if you fished rocks and cooked them near the bank? Then bank the cooked fish. Banking would be faster than dropping and the area near the bank would not likely be interrupted by living rock creatures.

ffs why not wc and fm
I'd rape

waste.
really the fastest xp would be sitting there fishing and not even moving to cook.
also when dropping the fish, it might be faster to eat-drop-drop repeat
By George on 13/07/2010
THanks Kev ^
Ummm yeah Lee I think that would be a waste of time... if you want to test it though that would be great?
You ARE allowed to drop/eat/bank cooked fish, just NOT RAW.
I wouldn't think that they would have a problem with getting logs from the bank.. i mean it has nothing to do with fishing or cooking in that sense.
