Why's it called a recycling bin? The stuff that's deleted isn't recycled, its gone

Well, technically when you put it in the recycle bin, it's not gone until you delete it.
I figure the name comes from the 'recycling' of the space. So say you have a 5 MB file, you put it in the bin, and you've now got 5 MB of space again.

Might be cause you can delete stuff by mistake sometimes Then you can go to the recycle bin and get it back init@

Actually, you are recycling disk space on your harddrive. Even after you delete something it's still there until it's written over, you're not really doing anything by throwing away the file besides telling the computer it's alright to write new information over that part on the disk.
