Sabres RL Meetup 2 (Birmingham) - You are invited!

Sabres RL Meetup 2 - Birmingham, England

user posted image

Information

Date: Saturday November 6th 2010
Where?: Birmingham, England
Time: We will meet outside Birmingham New Street train station at 11am sharp.

Transport Links

Train: Virgin, London Midland, East Midland Trains and Arriva Trains Wales all run services to Birmingham New Street station from various places across the country. There are also very fast trains to Birmingham departing from London (taking around 1hr).

Plane: This may be a viable option for those who may be travelling from Scotland or abroad, otherwise it's probably better to take the train. The nearest airport is Birmingham International, which has a rail link to Birmingham New Street.

Coach: National Express and Megabus run relatively cheap coach travel to Birmingham. You would have to make your own way to Birmingham New Street station.

Car: Take the M6 motorway, exiting at Junction 6 (Birmingham Central & North). Use Google Maps or a Satnav for accurate directions to New Street.

As you may know, The Sabres held a RL meetup in August in the town of Crewe. This was very short notice (kind of an impromptu meetup), but we did manage to get 5 people attending - including WG Keanu. After the success of this, The Sabres have decided to host a second RL meetup in November, this time with more organisation and a longer notice - we've also decided to invite all members of WG!

We're still planning what we will do throughout the day, but the meeting time will be 11am sharp. Please ensure your travel will allow you to get to New Street Station at 11am prompt, as we don't really want to be waiting around for hours for people to turn up. We expect that we'll do stuff like bowling, possibly laser quest, and probably raid a Pizza Hut or something for lunch/dinner. Based on initial predictions, I reckon we'll get 10 people or so - which would make the turnout for this bigger than any WG rl meetup that has ever taken place. w00t xD

If you can come, or if you are possibly coming, let me know and I will add you to the list. smile.gif

By Armybuilder1 on 22/09/2010
Maybe +S
We shall see if im busy that day +P or if i can get down by train

By George on 22/09/2010
Really tempted to do this.
I'm in Lancaster... at uni, so it will take me about 2 hours by train to get there, 3 hours back as i'd have to change in Manchester, but only £30 in total.

I'll have a think about it, but if i can be guaranteed being able to meet with at least a few people then i will certainly come down for the day.

I have some old friends in uni anyway that I would like to see.

The only problem is that my train will ARRIVE at 10.55am, would you be willing to wait for me? Maybe 10-15 mins? I don't want to get the train that comes in at 9.55... that'll mean me leaving my room at Lancaster at like 7am neko2.gif

Yeah that'll be fine, we're ok with waiting 10-15 mins, we just don't want to be waiting for people to roll in at 12:30 or whatever lol

UPDATE:

If you're thinking of coming to this event and staying overnight in Birmingham (i.e., you want to join some people who are considering getting wasted on Saturday night), you need to book hotels ASAP as the cheaper options are rapidly disappearing.

As of writing the cheapest ones I can find are:

Travelodge - Birmingham Perry Barr
£35.75 for 6th November, 3.3 miles from the centre (close ones are like £60)

Premier Inn - West Bromwich Central
£40.00 for 6th November, 11.8 miles from the centre (again, close ones are around £60)

The difference is that I was actually BUSY. AWAY FROM HOME. NOT ABLE TO ATTEND, the August WG Meet.
If I was in London, I would have met you in London.

But since I was in the countryside, 2 hours away and WITHOUT MY OWN CAR, I couldn't get back to you.

I don't think the recap has been posted on these forums yet, so I'm going to repost it here (the recap was written by Skoby Sabre). Unfortunately, not many pics were taken at this meetup (in comparison to the meetup in Crewe earlier this year which had over 9000 pics) x_x

Also, TS will be holding a couple of more meetups next year, another UK one in the Spring and an Amsterdam megameetup in the summer biggrin.gif

---------------------------------------------------

Yesterday 5 sabres and a guardian went to birmingham. Me and Toned got the train up together, where we made a new friend! Who scared us a bit when he asked a girl sat near us "are you tanned or are you foreign?" and then didn't want to let Toned leave

We met up with Warner, Live, Hotrod, Keanu, at about 11am and greeted eachother with handshakes and manlove (not manshakes and hand love tongue.gif) then I got outvoted and so we headed to Subway where we chatted for a while. We decided we should go bowling, but noone knew where a bowling alley was, or even if there was one, so we headed to the nearby shopping centre to find someone to ask. We got slightly distracted in the Early Learning Centre:

Some idiot working in Game told me one would be opening soon down the road and told us that the nearest one was about 20 minute drive away!! Never giving up Warner lead us on a patrol to find someone who wasnt retarded and would be able to direct us to a bowling alley or something else fun to do. After Warner lead us round in circles, past living statues and crap brake dancers we finally found someone who could give us vague directions and a map! So we headed on the quest to the bowling alley.

After a long walk we finally came to a landmark we recognised from the map, which just happened to include a pub, so we took a break and had a drink and a chat and made an attendance vid, Warner punched Keanu *vid* and before long we were back on our quest. As we started walking down a long and lonesome road we noticed things start to get a bit rougher and saw several strip clubs, which sadly were closed :getlost: and this shop which reminded us of Will

We eventually got to what we thought was the bowling alley, but turned out to be a cinema, fortunately we were close and were given directions to finally get bowling. Whilst going under a subway Toned demonstrated his real life agility! Then finally, about 3 hours after we met up we found the bowling alley! We played 3 games in total, slightly interrupted by the girls in the next lane breaking theirs and somehow ours and having to move, and the bowling alley being glitchy, randomly knocking pins over and giving people a 3rd go randomly but it was still good fun.

When we were finished it was starting to get dark so we got a taxi back to the train station, annoying the taxi driver a fair bit! When we got to the station me, warner and keanu went for a final pint (costing about £3.50 each!!) before we went to say goodbye and take a few pics. This had to wait as there was a small riot and about 20 police trying to hold back west ham fans and get them onto their train. After everything calmed down we took a few pics and then me and Toned had to get our train home.

All in all it was a good fun day, quite random but I think everyone had a good time and I hope we have another real life event soon. If everyone can post pics here I'll edit them into my topic.
