Event clashes

By Tnuac on 24/04/2008
Well my awareness of this was raised today. Even though the 2 events did not directly clash, and I'm not blaming anyone at all, there was a period of clash.

I'll tell you know, in terms of co-ordinating events, a clash is the worst thing you can have. There is no exuse for them, and people are often torn between one and another, feeling that they're missing out. Even worse, if someone's having a personal celebration while others are at a group game event, those people can feel very isolated and unrespected.

When WG offers events, it should never have to make people chose. Each event should be given its own time period without interruption, even if the events are completely different.

I know all this is common sense, but there's a tendancy to organise an event without looking at the times of other events, thinking there's no chance they will clash. And when there is a clash, sometimes its hard to resolve. Best solution is moving 1 event back, but this cannot always be done, or is done with dire consequences.

I have first hand experience of a very bad event clash. I was a raid leader at the time and another raid leader (morgan, yeah - oldschoolers will know exactly what I'm getting at) persuaded people to carrying on raiding. Meanwhile, someone was having a level celebration, with a poor turnout. I made a stupid mistake in letting the raid carry on, thinking we'd take the team down and get back in time, and I took on the brunt of the blame for it. It never happened again, but there's always a chance of it repeating if care isn't taken.

I agree, event clashing is one of the worst things that can happen. It only leads to bad turnouts in BOTH events, and especially if the event is in celebration of one person's achievements, it makes then feel disrespected. Always check the calendar before posting events, and always post your events on the calendar to avoid clashes smile.gif.

If this is about my event then i will explain:

Dale had posted an agility event in a WG only sub forum for events, i on the other hand post one in the PUBLIC forum, which means ANYONE can come. I had organised it with many others and posted it then as it was the only time i could get it. WG members did not have to come to my attack party as Dale said: WG > 99 Attack which is true. This is why i posted it in the PUBLIC forums because it ment anyone that was not in WG could come. The post was aimed at both and i did not expect alot of WG to show up.

I was suspended for 24 hours because of it, i have served my suspention and can tell you that i did not only invite WG but PCE and those on my friends list.

At the end of the day and i will stick to this: Public Events are for EVERYONE and can run along side other events. This is because those events hosted most of the week are for WG members only.

Simon, the Public events forum is just like any other events forum, except that others can attend. Just because there is an event that non-wg can attend, doesn't mean that WG shouldn't attend. It is an event like any other and WG are supposed to attend. Now it was an inconvenient time to host the event party... But it happened, and so on. So let it go and just understand. This is not going towards you or any single person.

Event clashing is not something to be made fun of. One of the host should nicely ask the other to move back or forward. Sorry for what happened the other day.

Look at ALL forums and calendar before making events.

Always have made sure my event never clashed and if i found out it did i made a arrangement with both organisers to sort it out.

By Tnuac on 25/04/2008
Simon, I appreciate that. However, when WG are alerted to it, some will definitely want to congratulate you, and then they have to make the choice. Even if you didn't invite WG, i'm sure they'd want to turn up in support. Its unavoidable really.

However, its understandable if its the only time you can manage. Just be sure to mention the reason.

I wouldn't warrant it worth of a suspension at all, who suspended you?

From looking further into it, the actions taken seemed fair.

Anyway, I'm referring to event clashes in general, not the recent particularly case. Its just a good way to raise awareness to it.
