Yes, that is amazing.
I think I heard of a similar person on some Sci-Fi show exhibiting real people with "superhuman" abilities. He was an older, American man who claimed he could beat a calculator at an infinite amount of equations.
I got hit on the head whe I was young, also. Unfortunately, as a result, I may have received a mutation of the opposite nature.

Savants sort of have tunnel vision.
He's no doubt special, and I don't know if any other parts of his brain are lacking... if it's all there then yeah jealousy :@

All I can say is "Cool".
I'm guessing that the reason these people can do this is because a certain piece of their brain got "repurposed" for a different task - For example, instead of a certain bit being used for social interaction purposes, it became a dedicated number-computing module, or perhaps used for better memory-recall purposes.
Honestly, though, I'm convinced that while these Savants end up with a "large" amount of some specific ability, a much larger percentage of the population has some talent this way, though it may not be noticed in that way.
For example, one might argue that those with the natural ability to compose music, to create "real" artwork(sure, everyone can draw a few lines, but not everyone can create highly detailed imagery entirely from memory).
Heck, I'm also convinced that computer programmers have a little bit of "talent" this way - My mom used to work for a large organization in the computing field, and she ran into many people who may have had the best training available, and could write code, but couldn't "design code" from scratch(i.e. the difference between writing a novel and writing an essay) - Whereas, a few could write code in an artistic fashion.
Heck, even I could be considered to have some slight talent this way; I can think in 3D and remember amazing numbers of trivial facts, though finding the right triggers to recall those facts can be a challenge.
No matter what though, if they end up being able to induce a change like this in people... I don't know if it would be good. It might be, though it also might be perverted in one way or another.

I would gladly give up social behaviour for the ability to remember every moment in my entire life clearly and in exact detail. Any other takers?

Yeah he has a form of Synesthesia
Theres this chick I know, she had severe epilepsy as a child and had to get some nerve connecting the two halves of her brain severed, she ended up becoming a child genius afterwards, working with essentially half a brain.
She knows I think 4 or 5 languages now and scored top of the state in the final exams for maths as a 14 year old. She says she's the dumbest in the family too but they all had it naturally
Theres some really weird perks too, for example, when she touches concrete, she tastes pineapple in her mouth. Every number has a different colour assigned to it. etc
Most people with this sort of ability are pretty antisocial but this girl clubs, smokes, does hard drugs and is pretty damn hot too. Really amazing stuff in this field of study.

Yeah, you'll find that a lot of concert musicians, artists etc. have some form of synesthesia. They essentially feel and hear colours, feel and see sounds, its amazing haha ;]
That girl i mentioned before was told she had perfect pitch or something when she started piano lessons because every note gave off a different colour to her.

Oh and btw I can name at least 15, probably around 20 players from each of the NFL's 32 teams and what position they play, not to mention all 53 players on the Broncos. Is that any sort of mutation?

... and, similarly, how much of the brain we don't yet understand; and how much is left to understand.
I'm still a firm believer that there are various kinds of intelligence. Not referring to laziness in academics. Nor completely implying that intelligence can't be measured by test scores -- but close to it. I think people excel particularly when properly stimulated. General fields such as Mathematics, Language, History, Science, etc., are broad and valid subjects in which most people can succeed, but, generally, not without some degree of struggle. They may not always represent real life, applicable skills and the respective stimuli to an effective enough extent to accurately derive a "grade" of intelligence for a person.
Of course, I'm not well educated on the matter... this is just what I've been compelled to believe.

I can see your point. But when we abbreviate things, we just don't do that. You don't take a full word like "Mathematics" and then decide, let's chop off the "ematic" but keep the s so it's "Maths!" It just doesn't make sense to me. Makes me rage at British people who say it. (is it an Aussie thing too? *glares to Maffs)
