/mode #wg_lobby -R

Given the number of ordinary Runescape players we are recruiting like mad, I think we should allow all accounts into the IRC to open up communication.
I've set this:
/cs set #wg_lobby mlock -R
I think the flooding and security stuff isn't as important as encouraging intros to get to know us.
We have a lot of intros and very few applicants that filter through.
I'm blaming the IRC as one problem.
If you disagree with opening up the lobby permanently, please discuss below.

I don't see why opening up the IRC is a problem, so I mean if we left it open for a trial period say until the end of January when we've had all celebrations over (probably one of our busiest times). We can then see how it's gone and elaborate?

Two very good reasons why you should change this back:
- RobbieBot automatically gives Op to people with nicknames who belong to ranked officials. For example, anybody could enter the lobby with the nickname Rachellove and get +o. This already happened earlier, luckily Darth and I were around.
- It allows our new applicants to be IRC idiots. With our channel being +r, it forces them to register a nickname to join the channel. Without that, ta-da, we have lowered the intelligence of our trials.

STRONGLY, STRONGLY disagree with your second point.
It is our responsibility to be accessible.
We have to teach them how to use it.
As for Robbiebot, there might be a way around it.
We'll lose a LOT of applicants if we can't open our IRC simply.
The registration process is difficult for people who don't use IRC regularly.

We're going to end up with a lot of people who think we're a Clan Chat based clan.
I can see a lot of people just taking the picture for the application, then rarely touching IRC ever again. I think being forced to register a nickname gets their feet wet in terms of knowing and getting used to IRC.

We have had trouble recruiting in the past.
It's better to let them in and train them to use these things and if they don't, sweep them.
We'll never have this opportunity again.

Alright, I'm seriously pissed. This is exactly what I was talking about.
Zlat found this little security breach, got on Gene's nick, and banned everybody from the lobby.
This wouldn't have happened if somebody didn't give RobbieBot +o. I reduced Robbie's access to 4 for a reason - so the maximum rank RobbieBot can give is voice when somebody joins the channel with a WG member's username.
DO NOT GIVE ROBBIEBOT OP.
By Aragon on 11/01/2011
Ok boss!
(Even though I can't OP)
Zlat got a punishment in TT for doing so, hopefully he'll learn from being an idiot.
By His_Lordship on 11/01/2011
Re-ban Zlat, he's not a clan friend.

*sigh*. Rachel just showed me this topic.
It would have been nice for someone to let me know that this was happening - I can't change or do anything if I'm not notified.
Now, assuming Robbiebot -is- halfop, and can only give voice, having nickname registration off is still not a good idea, because someone(i.e. a spy) can get into #wg by simply using some member's nick. Currently, Robbiebot can't tell if someone has identified for a nick or not - Heck, *I'm* not entirely sure how to do it.
Until this gets worked out, Rachel has re-enabled the registration requirement.

Any admin op* can, so Kevin you should be able to unless Gene specifically edited the ChanServ levels.

Now that the intros are slowing down a good bit can we put back the +R? I haven't checked it today but just wanted to make sure we are being safe.
I think we should kick every single person in #wg too to make sure we have it all sorta as far as anyone sneeking into the channel. Idk maybe I'm over thinking it.
By Aragon on 16/01/2011
No, a mass kick is a bad idea.
