The answer: Sniping

By Tnuac on 01/05/2008
Although I'm not a fan of sniping, in the war we just had, sniping was the answer to winning it.

The majority of us were chasing one person, a good tank, while people picked off the stragglers and the pilers wasteing only arrows, no food.

But if you think about it, they're standing there with hardly any melee defence. Not attacking them is letting them get away with a great deal.

In a war like the recent one, when the other side is full of wannabe robin hoods, you HAVE to spread and attack them. While you're attacking them, they can't range effectively. All they can do is run or 1v1 you.

Then you ask, won't the war be really boring and slow? Well possibly. As long as you have enough people sniping rangers, though, you can still have a main pile and slowly take down their food. If WG's organisation gets good enough, it'll be possible to KO the d-hide rangers on the spot. But with the organisation as it is at the moment, an attempt at that could do more harm than good.

Mass sniping would have been an awesome answer for this as they were all ranging. We can come away from this looking at it as we learned something today. As long as we always learn something from a war it is good for us.
Just keep chugging guys. We will turn the corner soon enough!

By Dalejamesw on 01/05/2008
Personally i think we should to stick to NONE range wars until we can get the hybriding up to standard, i will talk to raid leaders about practices and decide whether they should host or i.

But for the Range fights your points are valid to me.

By Zlatan83 on 01/05/2008
Well, today was prehaps a bad day, since we had like 2-3 leaders on teamspeak.

Definitely. Just make sure the learning experience is used to greater good. More often than not, the lessons from the previous war are lost before the next.

We had 2-3 snipers, but we weren't even close to a match compared to Triforce and their rangers angryhahs.gif.png.

By Kiwi011 on 01/05/2008
ok so heres the deal. We need a separate 10 person sniping team that stays together and just works on killing the rangers. 10 people can get a k0 on someone in dhide. 3 can not.

By Pseudomage0 on 01/05/2008
Tbh todays war was ugly to say the least partly yes because we were confused with all the rangers and the horrible lag. But yes i agree with this some mass sniping would of greatly highered are chances of success in this previous war

Another thing is that we HAVE to take advantage of the rules that are in place. In the last few Melee/Range wars we've had, the opposing side totally outnumbered us in terms of rangers.

In those types of fights, we should require people bring a bow and have arrows equipped just so they have a second form of attack.

We keep getting into these Melee/Range wars but we only just bring a bunch of muscle to the fight, nothing more.

Wow . . . still haven't done anything about it. And all of these suggestions have been made before, many times before. Just nothing has been done about it.

All in good time my friend. Trust me, I know things are going to happen. wink.gif

I understand your concern but do something about that attitude.

Tnuac, I think you brought up nice points, and tbh, when I read your post, I was thinking about the possibility of us, or our leaders specifically, to try and implement change(s) in strategies during the fight itself, depending on the war situation. Lol, yeah, it sounds pretty far-fetched but I'm sure we can do that. The more we practice these kinda things, the more we'll feel comfortable.

But again, maybe what Dale said is right- perhaps we should just focus on one important aspect first- hybriding.

Triforce has an amazing anti-snipe, I know from experience.

By ArSeNaLfAn32 on 02/05/2008
Sounds good. We could learn to practice it. Often though range isn't allowed in our f2p fights. Maybe this is directed at p2p?

You were suspended for that attitude.

Mike i totally agree with your post, we need alot more training for snipers/hybrids. Big clans like joe says have a very good anti-sniping unit and will no doubt pwn us if we even try, We need to pick our socks up and train our arse's off.

Me9, your post has also got some very important points and hopefully in the near future we can impliment those into our own sniping.

Mike's post will help us if we need it to and i think action should be taken.

By pur3laugh on 02/05/2008
Yeah I think its a good idea. I'm gonna start practicing more and do clan wars randomly to practice and learn. I think we all should do that to prepare ourselves. <3 you all. laugh.gif

That's really a good thing to do.

In the previous mini id been to, like a 10v10 with tri, we only had like 3 snipers out of 10, me and other people, but once we where taken out the rest where just left following the guy and they never got there hits in which then left us to loose the mini, unfortunatly sad.gif

I don't mean big clans I mean Triforce, they have the best anti-snipe I have ever seen, no other clan I've fought has been able to anti-snipe like them (That's a hint for everyone out there).

Joe, for that information to be useful to WG, you need to expand on it wink.gif

How many? What combat style? More than one anti-snipe group? Always standing by? Does is split up?

Sniping is the only way around it unless the whole of WG ranges. Unless you have a super-efficient KO team, which looks a long way off yet.

By Quikdrawjoe on 03/05/2008
From having this happen to me, when a sniper comes they minute they seem him/her they will spam anti and then all pile the sniper until the sniper is forced to run or been KO'd. Then two people will follow the sniper until he/she leaves the area. After which they return to their pile. Other times they have those possibly same two people on I guess anti-snipe duty and they'll snipe any snipers who come by, I'm not sure if it's the same people I do know that the people who do this are 120s. The first option I've found to be more effective since it forces the sniper to pray and eat. They've almost KO'd me with it so that should give you some idea on how effective it is. Even when I'm expecting it it makes sniping almost worthless when the sniper has about one maybe two hits before they hammer him/her. I hope that explains it. tongue.gif

By Gunsnblades on 03/05/2008
i agree tnuac snipeing is the way forwards if they wana stand and 1v1 with us im sure we would win <3 that war was lost because no one sniped next war i suggest we should make a few people a "snipe unit" and they go kill all hybrids and rangers.

You always should take out rangers before melee...however if they are all ranging that does present quite a problem.

I see two solutions, either mass sniping or expert pile switching.

Really I think it depends on how many people you have fighting. If it is a smaller war like the one with triforce where you will have trouble getting KOs on the rangers, then I would recommend mass sniping. However, if it is clear that you can KO the rangers before they are able to switch their gear and start hugging, then I would stick to a strategy of pile switching. It is important with rangers that you create as much disruption as possible and not waste any time. Instead of having a fall in after every pile, instead tell everyone to snipe whoever they want when there is no pile being called. This works because the rangers tend to congregate towards the center of the arena, and you can easily mass snipe while being in range for a pile switch. Silently call pile switches over TS, maybe even give people a few seconds to get a click on the target before the switch is made. What should happen is a near instant KO, and then everyone spreading out and attacking random rangers before the next pile is called. If this does not happen and the ranger manages to put on gear and start tanking, it is better to just get off the tank and attempt to KO another ranger. If this consistently happens, it is a sign that you need to be doing mass sniping instead of pile switching.
