Warlord Nominations

Warlord Nominations

The Council position that we are having applications for will require those that are considering applying some deep thought. It is a serious commitment to not be taken lightly. You must be able to work well with the staff and keep an open mind to others ideas. This opening is for Warlord and you must host wars, along with all the other work that needs done. It will be expected for you to lead raids and have clear direction with the other raid leaders. You will be representing WG at all times.

QUOTE: Abmanju)
The Council is striving for more moderating type Council and a Council that looks for member feedback and so on. A Council that will never ignore a pm on IRC or on Forums. Someone that will always have the time to listen to anyone with a problem or query. Someone who is ALWAYS kind in what they speak. Someone that is never racist and has self-control. This person will also be doing a lot of forum work as well as IRC work. This person's communication with the clan is vital. Timezone is also very important for this person, they have to be most of the time at which most of the clan is on. Along with all this, they have to be Event active, they have to go to Events, we need a Council out there to support the clan in every event, it'll certainly be inspiring.

So in summary we are looking for:

  • A Good-Outlook Manager - Someone who can help people find their full potential in wars and pvp. Lead in a way to keep anger in check and restrain them from breaking our rules. Listening to the members not only about PVP and RS but whatever they might need. Keep a positive look on things even on days of disappointment or losses in wars. Encouraging others during times of low morale. Seeking out what is best for the clan over your own agenda or desires. Keeping your integrity when dealing with friends or those that don't like you. You have to settle disputes and do the appropriate punishment on a case by case basis.

  • Previous experience of ACP/Mod CP/IRC Commands would be helpful, but not necessary.

  • Someone who has a Microphone for Teamspeak and enjoys talking openly. Socializing with clan mates on a regular basis. Always remembering that every member is equal and you are not above anyone.

  • Someone who would be open to constructive and abusive criticism. Must be able to cope under extreme stress and pressure. Dealing with multiple problems and projects all at once while being told you need to do more by the clan. This is what often leads to Warlords and Council leaving the positions.

  • Someone who is not afraid to spend many hours a day arranging wars and raids while doing behind-the-scenes forum admin. This is very important. If this scares you, then you shouldn't be applying. Your own rune-scape time will be in jeopardy. You will find you have much less time to actually play RS.

  • Someone who would ALWAYS reply to EVERY PM or other means of communication from members/guests alike. This is extremely important to the success of the clan. Communication is key to running the clan smoothly. Keeping good communication between all leaders as well. You will be at staff, council and clan meetings. You must be careful to not let your own views influence your willingness to communicate with anyone.

The importance of the Council Rank:

QUOTE: Abmanju)
This rank, the Council rank, I can't stress how much **** it put through many Council members. Ask anyone who has been Council, they'll explain. You might think "Yeah, I'm prepared for this" - Heck, So did I, but I really had no clue what I was really in store for me. You might bug a Council member to do Apps or do something at a time, and go 'Oh If I was Council, I'd do that' but you will really have no idea unless you have been Council before. This rank has broken many many people. Lifespan of Council is usually, approximately, rather, 6 months I'd say. It's hard to last long in a job you're not getting payed for. You'll be able to realise 'Why am I doing this? What is the purpose' - Then you answer that question yourself 'Because I love this clan, I love my friends here, I want to make them happy' - THAT is your payment, THAT is what motivates you in Council.

Council Rank is the ultimate test, if you don't do well at it, you will be criticised by the clan whether you like it or not, you will have to be able to withstand that criticism and act positively to it. Council Members make mistakes, Primary Leaders make mistakes, but they are ordinary human beings just like yourself, they will learn from mistakes. But many people don't understand the concept, which is exactly why the pressure mounts & mounts on a Council Member.

Now it seems right to quote Eugene, from an Election Topic he made on the Z6 Forums in 2007:
QUOTE: His_Lordship)
You are about to apply for something dangerous
This clan has been through many council members.
We have never had a stable council.
If you join the council it is very likely you will quit WG soon after.

The council members are placed under EXTREME stress.
You just can't believe how much...

Anyway, you don't know what it's like to be in the council.
Some of you think it is the ultimate glory.
This glory will fade after a few weeks and you will suffer.
Others are in it because they want to change WG.
Then they suffer as well because the stress grows too heavy.

You may look at the council and say not much is being done for WG.
But it is hard for council members to do anything.
We are labouring and we need plenty of breaks.
Sure you may say nothing is being done.
It's REALLY that bad. We just have to keep our workload small.
Otherwise WG gets too stressful.
This is one of the reasons many council members leave.
They don't realise how stressful it gets.

IF YOU WANT THIS JOB, YOU REALLY HAVE TO HAVE A DEEP URGE FOR IT.
So please, before you apply, think VERY HARD.
There is a reason council members are temporary.
When you are in the council, it isn't a lot of fun.
People start questioning what's the point of playing RS if it's not fun.
To be a long lasting member, think of Dorcha3377.
She does it because she loves us. She loves what we're all about.
You need that. You have to draw your happiness from the happiness of WG.
Nothing can prepare you for it.
You may think you know how it's like, but you don't.
You can only understand once you are in the council.

So when you apply, realize that you may be about to suffer.

---------------------------------------------

If you are still certain that you are right for this job and if you have not been put off by the warning above, then you can apply as long as you meet the following criteria:

- Guardian+

Below is the Council Application Form

Please be aware however:
That this form is the basic form that you need to fill out. If you want to gain more votes, I suggest that your write a structured application, involving color & underlining key points.
Also please try to get your point across clearly.
Please spend a good amount of time making the application form
QUOTE: Abmanju)
People who have applied for the rank previously and received it took a good 1-2 Hours writing their applications.

By Dallar on 06/03/2011
Hi WG,

This is one important rank. Do not apply if you just want your name written in orange. Warlord is in head of WG's pvp section and has alot of responsibility concerning the overall fighting experience in WG. Do not think it's the same kind of work as a Raid leader. There's so much more to it. Not alone are you a Warlord - You are also a council of WG with members expecting you to do your best. This WILL get exhausting at some times..

I'm not applying but I really hope that applicants will THINK very hard about this before spending half the day writing an application. Good luck guys..

Application for Council:

1. Have you read and understood the warning? Please comment on why the warning is needed and of what relevance it is to you as an applicant.

Yes, I have read the warning. The warning is needed as the rank of council can be a frustrating and annoying rank, where instead of you receiving from a promotion; you are doing more work for no gain. But for me, the gain of the clan’s success is more than enough.

2. Why are you applying for the Warlord?

For the last 2 months I have been relaxing in Raid Leader rank while WG undergoes a stressful time. Never before in all the time I have spent in WG have I been the rank of council. This was always a goal of mine, but not a personal goal, a goal to give back to the clan that has given me so much.

When I first joined, I left my old clan with the thoughts of finding a new clan, with Australian members, and a clan that would only war to defend honor, not to gain loot, or to be the best. This is what I found in the Wilderness Guardians.

Over the past 6 years of my life, I have been in 3 clans, but have always returned to WG. That is because it has always been a second family to me.

So when it comes to me applying for warlord, it is as if I, the son of the family, is stepping up, working to provide the family, and steer my brothers and sisters to greater things, not only in the clan world, but together, making tighter bonds with existing members and making new bonds.

3. What do you perceive to be your current role in WG and in what way do you believe that you have helped WG to prosper?

I feel as though my role in WG at the moment is what I like to call “A person of the People”. Someone everyone can go to and have a chat with, because I am open, speak my mind, and can often give suggestions to tricky situations and/or problems, along with of course the obviously leading of raids and wars.

After Kyle finished his 2 weeks notice, I was the only official Raid Leader for about 2 weeks. In the past we have struggled with 2 or 3 Raid Leaders, yet I was able to manage effectively by myself.

Over my time in WG, I have also been an Event Leader, being one of only two Australian event leaders ever, thus providing events not only to Australian members, but to all members of the clan. Besides that, I have used my experience from being in WG, as well as being in the clan world over the past 6 years to my advantage to help WG when need.

A big event that I helped with was the Jagex Skill Cup. It was the first year that the cup had been run, and I took ahead myself the goal of organising the team (With Gorgemaster) and single handedly organising the guide that would provide the members with a detailed guide of achieving the best experience possible.

When it didn’t come with directly helping WG, I have also been a person often approached by many council members asking for advice, and I have humbly offered my opinion on many topics that have provided council members with an insight as to what the average member believes on the topic.

4. What qualities place you above other people applying for Warlord?

- Activity.
Being in University, I have 5 days a week away from studies, which means all day, every day I am free to give to the clan. I may occasionally have to work, but the hours I work, is when you Americans and English are sleeping anyway so it does not affect the clan.

- Experience.
I have had a role on staff before, so I understand that WG comes before my own account, and I understand how to do all the basic staff tasks such as updated attendance, working on forums etc. As well as being the longest serving (current) Raid Leader we have at the moment.

- Dedication.
With over 4 years in WG, I have been around to know how things work and I have been there through the major changes in the clan so I know what has to be done for the better and what can cause things for the worse.

- Personality.
I am someone who has little things to connect him with every type of social group, whether it be sport, games or music, which makes me a person easily approachable which many common things to talk about. This will help with people feeling free to talk to me, and also listening to me when I would need to lead.

5. What makes you think you can last for a long period in the Council as Warlord?

I have been in WG for so long already, and I have left, and returned. I now realise that instead of wasting time leaving, and then returning, I may as well solve the problems that would cause me to leave in the first place, instead of just taking the easy way out and leaving.

I have shown this over the past year I have spent in WG as a member. I made it through many flame wars, trolling and personal vendettas, not only against me, but by me, and came out of it unscathed, ready to represent WG no matter how my personal feelings are, especially shown recently.

But before people can say 'You just tried to leave, and now you want Council?', to them, recently with the new found rivalry with TBK has given me a new found passion for WG, and I have no doubt, that after the ENVY war I will be even more pumped for the PvP side of WG in the future to come.

6. What is your greatest weakness in terms of being a Leader?

I sometimes expect too much from people. This can be good, as it gives people a goal of what to aim for, but sometimes it is an insult. An example was me encouraging Zooby to train his account, return to WG. This was a big step for Zooby, having to gain 20 combat levels just to join the clan. But for Zooby, he persevered, and gained not only those 20 combat levels, but 22 extra, and he is still training, all because I encouraged him to begin with.

7. What does WG need most at the moment and what will your main priorities be as a Council Member who is our Warlord?

WG needs to get back into the winning routine of warring that it has had in the past. This is the most important thing I believe WG needs to work on over the next 6 months. Warring is what defines a ‘great’ clan. Awesome skilling clans, or community clans don’t get remembered, or even recognized. It’s the clans that are the best on the battlefield that are recognised, not only by the clan world, but also by Jagex.

I have three goals I want to achieve while in council as a warlord.

1. Get WG back into the top 10 clans.
2. Get 150 opts to a pvp war (50 members, MIGHT GET IT AGAINST ENVY hash.png )
3. Make the final four in the Jagex Cup (Warring).

8. Is there anything coming up in the next 6 months that could make you inactive? Do you plan on serving as WG council for 6 months or longer?

If elected, I will be in council for a lot longer than 6 months. As for inactivity, I just have my usual sport (Basketball, all while GMT/EST sleep) and then University which takes up 10-15 hours a week (Doesn’t affect events) but only for 11 weeks.

9. Do you agree to provide the Council with two weeks notice if you wish to resign?

Of course.

10. Is there anything else you would like to say?

Nothing. Good Luck anyone else who applies smile.gif

Application for Council:

1. Have you read and understood the warning? Please comment on why the warning is needed and of what relevance it is to you as an applicant.

Read and understood. The warning is needed because it reminds us how important this position really is. The clan is very dependent on its leaders and disappearing could be disastrous. As an applicant I understand why this is in place and I will follow it if I am elected.

2. Why are you applying for the Warlord? (I'm expecting at the very least 100 words.)

Guidance. This is what WG needs now more than ever. I truly believe that if elected I could help steer WG back on the right path. As a long time clanner and member of WG, I have witnessed some of the finest leaders and their leading techniques. Leading a top clan is a science; there are specific steps one must follow. With this in mind, I feel that I am ready to apply what I have learned and use it appropriately. I analyze every move we make in PvP and always have ideas on fixing them yet due to rank restrictions I lack influence. It’s time to change this.

Personally, I love clan PvP. You’ll find me at every raid and war returning to the end. When the clan isn’t performing well it frustrates me, especially when we make silly mistakes due to inexperience and laziness. I will use every loss as motivation to fix what we have done wrong. When the clan is happy with their PvP only then will I be happy. I will not promise to make WG #1. This is unrealistic. I do promise, however, to work as hard as possible and take us to where you guys allow it. This is not my clan or the leader’s clan; it belongs to all of us. My goal is to convince you guys that PvP is fun and worthwhile, not force you.

3. What do you perceive to be your current role in WG and in what way do you believe that you have helped WG to prosper?

My current role in WG, whether it has gotten me in trouble or not, is to be the voice of reason. As previously stated, with the clan knowledge I have in mind, I like to state my opinions on everything. Right or wrong I do it regardless. Why? Because there are always two sides to every argument. There is no right answer to all of our problems and I like to shed light on the other side of things. Only when you see both sides you can adjust your answer to please everyone.

Along with this comes experience. I have been Council, Raid Leader, Event Leader, and Application Manager in WG. I know what each duty requires and I like to share my experiences with people. I'm often that guy that people come to with their questions on anything clan related. And I like answering them.

4. What qualities do you have that make you the best choice for Warlord?

When I have a goal I stick with it. Some may call it stubbornness but I call it determination. Too many times have I seen WG give up and I’m tired of it. If elected Warlord, you will see us always pushing forward and I plan on being the motivational figure in charge.

I'm serious when I need to be. I love to have a good time and enjoy myself but come show time it's all about winning. Our recent PvP events have been gradually going downhill because of our attitudes and carelessness. I hope to change our outlook on PvP by being the prime example so that when we we step into the wilderness we use our full potential.

I’m involved not only with WG but the clan community as a whole. This is absolutely necessary in order to make the right decisions on wars. I actively read Zybez and keep up to date with the clan world news.

I don’t consider myself great but I’m somewhat experienced in leading clan wars. I can do what’s necessary and I’m always open to criticism for improvement. I can and will be working with the raid leaders to improve our leading and make it as easy as possible for the members to follow. I have been in WG when it was a top clan as well as AF and Collision and have picked up a few methods to lead with.

5. What makes you think you can last for a long period in the Council as Warlord? [Please really think about this and give us details.]

Not only have I been in WG for about 4 years, but I was council too. A few years ago I was a general council for about 8 months. I had to step down due to going away for the summer even though I really didn’t want to. I’m used to having lots of responsibilities and I still manage to be active on Runescape and with WG. Truth be told, I find getting involved in clan work pretty fun and engaging. Nothing is better than enjoying the job you do.

6. What is your greatest weakness in terms of being a Leader?

Patience. Nothing bothers me more than the people who refuse to return, get KOed repeatedly, and skip events. I really have to hold myself back from raging at these people. I’ll find ways to work around this.

7. What does WG need most at the moment and what will your main priorities be as a Council Member who is our Warlord?

We really need a smarter plan of action. At the moment it seems like we’re making random wars with anyone that asks, especially with clans much stronger than us. Wars need to be strategically thought out and planned. I’d like to balance our P2P and F2P events as well.

It is obvious some people in WG are a bit clueless when it comes to PvP. That's OK. The problem is we're not helping them. I will be sure to supply detailed and helpful instructions about everything PvP related, whether it's live or in video. Along with this I will make sure to briefly go over everything before fghts so it is fresh in everyone's mind.

Activity is a major problem. With a memberlist like ours, we shouldn’t be pulling ~15 to the allied raid and about half to full outs. That’s completely unacceptable. We need to be more serious about this. Warnings are becoming a joke. I’ll change this if elected.

We could use some motivation. It seems everyone heads into the wildy for loot rather than to fight for his or her clan. I would say the clans at fault since we stopped having planned fights and tracks etc. I’ll be posting every fight on RSC and making in-depth recaps our forums looking for useful feedback.

8. Is there anything coming up in the next 6 months that could make you inactive? Do you plan on serving as WG council for 6 months or longer?

I’m a student but that hasn’t really slowed me down so far. Besides the occasional exams and finals week, I’ll be active. I plan on serving for over 6 months and as long as WG needs me.

9. Do you agree to provide the Council with two weeks notice if you wish to resign?

Yes.

10. Is there anything else you would like to say?

Our Warlords in the past have been afraid to make the serious changes due to offending or pressuring people from what’s comfortable to them. Lets be realistic: WG’s current PvP standards are a joke. We’ll never be able to compete with other clans. If elected, I’m changing this. I don't mean to appear as a tyrant but change NEEDS to happen. I'm not afraid to call people out for bringing us down. This is a serious job and requires serious effort.

Thank you for reading this and good luck to all other applicants.
