#wg channel and Nicks

By Winddancir on 06/05/2008
I'm a little concerned over use of proper nicks in #wg. Some newer members don't even think that they need to have part of their rsn in their nick.

We do need to have some clear rules set on that... There may have been them at one point, but when I looked on the 2 major topics regarding the irc channels ( http://www.wildernessguardians.com/forum/i...hp?showtopic=97 & http://www.wildernessguardians.com/forum/i...hp?showtopic=21 ) they didn't have anything on it.

I almost kicked a new trial. Here's the conversation up to this point. If you want the actual logs and not a copy/paste, I can get it for you.

QUOTE (in #wg)
<Winddancir> !rsn [MM]Ixile[TS]
-RuneScript- I don't know the RSN of "[MM]Ixile[TS]"
* T_Dwag|Brandon has quit IRC (Ping timeout)
<Winddancir> who is [MM]Ixile[TS] ?
<Pseudomage0> dunno
<Ty> Trial

QUOTE (in pm)
<Winddancir> rsn?
<Winddancir> please respond.
<[MM]Ixile[TS]> slade8472
<Winddancir> then please use that nick when you are in #wg
<Winddancir> no one in WG knows you as this
<Winddancir> -RuneScript- I don't know the RSN of "[MM]Ixile[TS]"
<Winddancir> and whois doesn't show either
<[MM]Ixile[TS]> I rather use this nick
<[MM]Ixile[TS]> since its the one that is registered to other channels
<Winddancir> ....
<[MM]Ixile[TS]> Sorry if its an inconveniance =S
<[MM]Ixile[TS]> Sp?
<[MM]Ixile[TS]> inconveniance
<Winddancir> no, it's not an inconveniance. what it really is, is me thinking there is some one who doesn't belong in the channel #wg and you almost got kicked from the channel. I at least pm the person first. not every one will do that.

[MM]Ixile[TS] is [email protected] * SwiftKitUser
[MM]Ixile[TS] on %#team_Smite +#wg
[MM]Ixile[TS] using cookies.ca.us.SwiftIRC.net Yummy cookies!
[MM]Ixile[TS] has identified for this nick
[MM]Ixile[TS] End of /WHOIS list.

With the nick he is using, it implies that he is in another clan. If I had followed my first instinct, kick first ask later, I wouldn't have known he was a trial. None of the information easily viewable showed who he was.

Opinions? Ideas? Anything?

When I saw that person join IRC yesterday I was just looking at his WG profile so I knew who it was, but it is still a bit unusual to have an IRC name that doest link to your RSN at all.

The only time my IRC nick doesnt contain 'Evil[Something]' is when I am playing around.....

Perhaps it should a be a rule that your IRC name is easily connectable to your specific RSN. For example Rob-Breakfast would be fine, as long as it is easily recogniseable as the person in question.

I think we should stop people using my name, it's getting annoying sleep.gif

I don't have any ideas for this though =/

Yeah I'm not going to bully you any more rob, on the condition that you stop calling me an aussie.....

Well I thought there was a rule for trials, that said they had to use someting linked to their RSN.
If it doesn't exist anymore, then I think it should be put back into effect. No punishments, but only asking Trial Members to at least insert "|<RSN>" after their nick.

The excuse he gave you isn't a valid one, as he doesn't have to register another nick to simply show himself as [MM]Ixile[TS]|Slade8472 .

When he first joined #wg I thought it was a bot invited by somebody, till he started talking... I don't have any suggestions but to have atleast part of your name in your IRC name that people know you by. (ex. Mine Buzz = Buzzard1985)

By Zlatan83 on 06/05/2008
Yea I agree, specially trials should have a IRC name that is like their runescape name.

I've been looking into this guy and he is the rank "pink Hat" on MM forums, which is effectively like a Trail rank.

Surely this classes him as a multi clanner? sure its on his pure.... but if I had a level 100 pure and joined rot on it it would still be multi clanning? the fact is he is in 2 clans under different aliases, and he seems more inclined to do stuff for his pure clan than WG (he always has his nick on {MM]Ixile, which shows that he cares more about his pure clan than WG).
