Locking Topics?

By rachellove9 on 06/05/2011
I am now starting to get complaints from members about us locking topics they feel can remain open. If a topic has become highly flaming and or you see it as a possible issue, I would like a lock put on for a short period and the topic cleaned up. So let's say 2 hours for people to cool down. You should post the expected time to reopen it. It is very frustrating to member to think that we don't want to hear them. Even if the topic is about things that seem directed at ourselves we have to allow them to get their view out. They are allowed to disagree with anyone even Gene. It just has to be done politely and productively.

If it goes to cursing, I would like you to screenie if it is a warn lvl worthy thing. Then simply edit their text and say something like this.

Original post

Go to "f" off you rotten "whatever".

Go to "Lumby" you rotten "cabbage".

This post has been edited for inappropriate content by staff.  Thank you.

If you stop every complaint that might be aimed at yourself or staff, it comes across way to controlling and like you might be guilty or afraid of truth. However, we don't have to take abuse ever.

I find it's better to go directly to the person and ask them to edit their post if it's offensive or vulgar. If they refuse, then I just delete it.

That is another good approach to it.
