Recruiting!

By Reticked on 28/05/2011
RECRUIT

Why is it important to recruit?

FRIENDSHIP!
- The more people we have in our nice community, the more friends you'll make!
Events that will have you borderline epileptic with pride!
- When we have a higher number of members attending events, the fun had seems to increase exponentially! Who knows, maybe we'll even see a change in the outcomes of important battles!
Chat it up!
- Don't you just love to have things to read and chat with your pals? With new recruited members, you'll have much more to do when you're bored! IRC, forums, the works!
Pave the pathway to greatness!
- When member count increases, not only do the above increase - but the clan most likely will end up being more successful!
Make bank!
- Your friendly neighborhood =#:CLANMATES NAME HERE:#= will gladly give you gold pieces for your time and effort! We appreciate our members here, go gettem pal!
hash.png!!!
- When we succeed and you have friends and aren't bored, you're happy!

How does one recruit?

Get your mack on!
- You probably have old friends on RS that have come back from quitting, and make new ones while training and whatnot - why not ask them if they're in a clan? Who knows, maybe they would be interested in applying!
Put on your WG one piece jumpsuit everyday with pride!
- When you come to events that other people see, people may become jealous of all the outrageous fun you're having and want to take part. These people could potentially join us, invite them to take part and apply! Also come to events that people DON'T see, because this makes trials want to stay with the clan even more than they do already, you can bet your bottom dollar! (Inb4inactivenoobkeithfgt)
BE A BEAST
- Train your combat until the cows come home! Not only can this help the clan and your puny self confidence out, but you can more easily recruit people by being a big bad level 138! When people look at our memberlist and see the first few people with max combat, they may very well just poop in their pants and apply at once!
Don't be trollin' now!
- Seeing as RuneScape is a game focused primarily on an age group younger than ours, we have to be courteous to our new members and potential recruits! Youngin's are easily offended by impoliteness so be on your best behavior! You can also cause unnecessary drama, and nobody wants that!
Use your mind powers!
- Come up with new and interesting events that everybody will love! People love to see uniqueness in clans, the more unique the better! Either ask a staff member for advice, or host one yourself! Skilling events are wonderful, and don't forget that dem noobs love a good money makin' sesh!
Make RuneScape your LIFE
- Don't want to play RuneScape? Sure you do! Go AFK in the GE with a vexilium planted, it's the kind of flag everyone can love! REALLY don't want to play? Go on a fansite and be friendly to other members, and stay relatively active. Obscure fansites as well! Surely the people of the obscure fansites will need a change of pants when they see your awesome WG signatures with links to some of our better fights and clan website/forums!
Post count!
- Increase your post count on the RUNESCAPE forums! Specifically on our recruitment page! testimonials to our clan will do us very good, but don't use too big of words because that will scare away many people!
Chill man!
- Don't intimidate new members and potential recruits with our 'intense standards', Let them ask the questions and guide them on the path to victory! Our application process is very rigorous for an internet game, why not dumb it down for a little? Back in the day when we had over a hundred members, the application process was less strict and allowed for more failures to come in, but those failures helped us win! When the process is easier, more people may come in; thus enticing others to apply as well, and others; and so on and so on, until we get to the cream of the crop members!
Don't get mad!
- No one likes a negative nancy. If I hear your depressing BS on the forums or in the IRC, I just don't plain give a shit about it! Try not to brag hardcore either, that's pretty obnoxious (because obviously I can show you up with my 99 FM hash.png)
DO SHIT LIKE THIS
- Create bold, new, exciting topics that will enthrall the reader and make them want more! You might even get lucky at an irl meet for being so smart!

And most importantly..... LOVE THE CLAN YOU'RE IN
I LOVE THE SHIT OUT OF WG, I'M GOIN ON 6 YEARS STRONG
(and inactive but hash.png)

-Please add your own suggestions as well! I did this in the spur of the moment, and most likely forgot mad stuff!

How To Recruit In-Game
Copied from TBK forums, modified for WG

Step 1: Choosing a Recruit

Not everyone is suitable for WG.
You need to choose wisely when trying to recruit.
Who will be active? Who will be productive?

Get to know the person.
If they simply flame and troll you, forget about them.
If you're in combat, it helps you to really see who they are.

A person who just says "omg safer" and "def nub" - forget.
If they run, tag, PJ or other NH tactics - forget.
However, if they give you a clean and fair fight, they're a potential recruit.
All in all, consider whether you would want them as a clanmate and friend.

Step 2: Introduce Clanning and WG

A nice starter is "Are you in a clan atm?"
Many will be in CCs like Bad Timing/Critical Damage, etc.
These aren't real clans, but don't flame them for it.
Say "I mean like a real clan, with forums/IRC/voice comms, etc."

If they say no, ask "Ever thought about joining one?"
If they say yes, they're interested.
If not, don't annoy them about it.
A good reply is "Ok, if you're ever up for it, give me a shout smile.gif"

If they are, tell them about WG.
Our focus is on P2P PKs and wars in the wild and cwa.
Make sure you advertise to their needs and interests.
If they like PKing, tell them about how we PK twice or more a week.
If they're a rune miner, tell them about our ARPK policies.
If they gave you a clean fight, tell them about our Honour and Code of Conduct in the wild.

But give them an element of adventure as well.
Many will never have seen a full-out war before.
Describe to them hundreds of members from two clans battleing it out.
And don't forget - we don't do extended PKRIs, so we won't drain their bank.

Step 3: Referring them to WG

I'll make this really easy with an application video guide soon.
However, for now we have to do things manually.
The first part is getting around the filter.

"wildernessguardians . c () m" is uncensored in-game.
Remember the spaces and the ( ) instead of an o.
Try it out in the CC to test it.

Direct them to our forums, and let them know how to register.
I have a video guide up on intro/applying - first book on the WG bookshelf.
Remember to emphasise how simple and fast our application system is.

Step 4: Bring them to the IRC

But don't just leave it there.
Try and get them on the IRC, if they use SwiftKit show them how.
We even have a Java client ourselves on the forum.
There we can talk freely, and ensure they're forum/IRC active.

Remember, every 10 in-game recruits, maybe 2-4 will be active.
In-Game recruiting is fairly difficult, but it has it's profits.
Some of my most valued clanmates and friends came from in-game recruiting.

Anything else you need to know, post on this topic.
Other than that, best of luck!

But TBK died.... [/troll]

Recruitment is the most important thing for WG at the moment. It is the thing that everyone wants, but no body does. If I hadn't have been (basically) hacked, I'd put 5m into the pot for the person with the most recruits over the next 2 weeks.

Or it could be based on a similar scale as this:
3 recruits = 5m
8 recruits = 10m
Most recruits = 10m bonus.

However, by March we peaked at 54 on our member list, and when we did our first real activity check in April we only kicked 14 inactives - meaning before the mass-leave we had FORTY active members in less than 3 month's work. hash.png

I'd say 50% of that was in-game recruitment, 30% friend invites and 20% fansite recruitment.

In-game is where it's at hash.png

I agree with this. Maybe Gene could redo his little TS recruitment talk for us. We have many new members and some of us never had the opportunity in the past to go.

+1
In addition to this Banners. Im sure i could find/make some recruitment banners for multiples of 3 or something.

Although on a personal note im against my friends being in the same clan as me. Never works well
