My plan's for the next few months

By JC on 10/05/2008
Okay, since I really haven't had an oppurtunity to actually discuss with you guys what I really want to achieve now that I have a council spot. Hopefully most of you will have taken the time to read over my app (not looking at anyone in particualr here.....) and think about the things I put in there, I will try to achieve as much of those promises as I can.

So, here goes:

Application system

I think at the moment one of the major flaws of our application system is not how easy it is to get in, when have the trial period to root out the un-motivated people so I have no problem with that part of it. I do have a problem however with the current refferals arrangement.

Refferals to me has always been a flawed idea, saying somone is your mate is great and all, but really I have plenty of friends in RS that I would not want joining WG yet I would feel obligated to 'refer' them if they decided to apply (wouldn't you look like an asshole saying 'no I won't refer you' to a good friend?).

But then what can we do? I think refferals should be only available to higher gaurdians or above, why? because they have proven to us that we can trust them with more sensitive information and we obviously trust their judgement a little more than the average gaurdian. We also should emphasize to the people who do the refferals how incredibly important an honest referal is, because at this stage the least active trial members are those who have been let in via the referal system.

Graduation

I did discuss this in a recent "suggestion" forum post, and I do still think a forum to discuss trail members is important. At the moment there is no real way for a member to tell us what a trial member is doing be it good or bad, other than by PM'ing on the forums or IRC.

I suggest a forum in which a thread is created for each trial member during their trail period, with something like this posted:

CODE

Join Date:

Joining Combat:

Total Level:

Total XP:

This would give us the information we need to track wether a member is actually active during their trial period. We would then give members (or higher+ etc?) access to this forum which they can post any enncounter's they may have with this member during their time as a trail guardian. Examples of what they could post are perhaps a comment on particularily good event attendance, or in the case of some recent trial member's, bad conduct.

This would effectively give us eyes in the back of our heads, with the rest of the clan looking for both positive and negative aspects of potential new Guardians.

Once a member graduates we could move these to an archive which only Tertiary+ can view I guess?

Thanks guys, allready done hash.png

Return of the mentor system

Ive been thinking about the practicalities of this, and it is seeming harder and harder to implement.

Basically one of the big problems with the previous mentor system I found was that the mentors had no idea what they were doing. I would think that to be a mnetor you would need to be a long serving member of WG (long serving being 6 months+?) and looking at the memberlist basically anyone who has been in Wg for that length of time is either emeritus or has enough on their plate allready (ie tertiary leader etc.).

Another problem was most mentor's had 2-3 mentee's which is unsustainable (didn't abs have like 5-6 at one stage? hash.png).

Plus it made the system overcomplicated.....

Maybe that wasnt such a good idea afterall?

More Idea's to come.....

EDIT 1-

IRC rules

We really need to develop a set of rules for the IRC, in regard to nicks, scripts and so on....

In regard to referrals... it's not about trust.
It's about keeping them active.
If they know someone in WG before they join, they have a greater chance of prolonged activity.

Yet from what I see these days reffered people are the least active of all trials sad.gif

Actually, it was one person who reffered heaps of PC clanners that all are inactive.....

From my own experience, referred members are the most active.
And I don't see the big deal... if they are inactive, sweep them after 2 weeks.
They aren't doing a great deal of harm.

They all look good ideas to me. The grad system looks excellent.
I agree with Eugene on the referrals thing, I've used it to help many of my close friends get immediately into WG and they've turned out to be active. A most recent one, Pur3laugh. They are generally more active if they already have a close friend in the clan before joining.

Pur3 is one of the best new members I have seen, if anything she is TOO friendly hash.png
