Invisible tanks.

It is the type of innovation normally associated with James Bond, and the brains behind the latest technology is the MoD's very own "Q" - Professor Sir John Pendry, of Imperial College London. He said the only drawback was the reliability of the cameras and projectors. But he added: "The next stage is to make the tank invisible without them - which is intricate and complicated, but possible." |

Yeah, when i saw it on james bond i had a feeling it would work.
But it would cost a heck of a lot, and when the tank's likely to be destroyed, that would waste a lot of money

I dont trust Daily mail but it looks cool and would suck if it was put into motion. The enemy will just use radar to locate it.

Yeah, I believe it.
I tihnk it has much more to it then what the article sais though.
And would only be used under VERY special circumstances.

Wouldn't the amount of noise those things make outweigh the whole invisibility aspect? I mean, I guess it masks the approach from afar, but when is the next time England is going to invade anyone?

Wouldn't when the tank fires the cannon on its body, with the vibrations flowing through the tank disable the system anyway?

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a hoax.
The thought of an invisible tank is nice and all, but what happens when you can 'sort-of' see an invisible tank but you can't tell wether its yours or not? plus realistically this only stops people from shooting them and not other tanks/vehicles/aircraft which almost all will be equipped with digital sights of some sort that will see stright through projections (Due to the fact that a tank has a massive heat signature from the large engines they have, as well as their rather large magnetic signature.).
I cant see them wasting time on a technology that I doubt would work.

I agree, but maybe this is one step towards a completely invisble and stealth tank.. You can do it with planes and boats, why not tanks or cars?
What i find funny is that its in the Daily mail but you cannot find it in the Sun, The EADT (East-Anglian Daily times), The Sunderland Metro, The Guardian or any other up to date news papers.

Oh, and yeh, it's pretty impractical for a lot of reasons...
