By bobler2 on 14/05/2008
Alright, i have a machine for stoumach muslces but it does nothing, so ifanyone could reccomened daily excercises for me? I would like alot of work done on stomach muscles and upper body strength awell.
By Bambaleo on 14/05/2008
don't listen to any1 in here...that's the best advice i can give you. You have no idea how much you can do wrong if you train alone, just go to gym son. But if you really wanna train something just do situps, pullups and pushups, you barely can do anything wrong there. If you do exercises you don't know ot never done before you can get sriously enjured, believe me i've had this experience, that's why i go to the gym where a professional coach trains me. Safety first.
but i don't think that you will believe so..yea. You can find some awesome exercises on Youtube, just enter the muscle group you would like to train and there will be neough stuff for you.

crunches and pushups if ur cheap
By Robertw56 on 14/05/2008
I would suggest getting yourself down to your local gym, and doing push-ups and sit-ups at home
By Kiwi011 on 14/05/2008
well....situps dont give u abs, you will get a stronger stomach, but the fat will still be over the muscle, not entirely sure how to get rid of the fat layer....
Pushups- Do 5 pushups. Yes 5. Do a slow 10 count down and then 10 up. 1 pushup taking 20 seconds. When it becomes really hard start breathing in and out. If 20 seconds is easy.....do 15..... but i am betting 10 is enough lol.
By Firelion08 on 14/05/2008
Make a habit of doing a few hundred push-ups and/or sit-ups a day. It'll help.
I do martial arts exercises, so that's what keeps me busy most of the time.
It's not a bad idea to go out and hire a coach, though, like Bamb said.
By General199 on 15/05/2008
A good thing for push ups/crunches/sit ups/etc. is to do 3 sets of 10 of each exercise(As you feel yourself getting stronger you can increase the reps of each set). You should look on google for different types of ab workouts you can do like 6 inches and v-sits or whatever else you want. Do these everyday and always change up your work out to keep your body thinking. You never want to keep your body into a routine cause then your muscles will remember and only workout those certain muscles. If you change things you will keep all muscles working and constantly getting stronger.
By Me9alomaniac on 15/05/2008
Too many exercises. So many variations. Take your time to read up and plan. Include variations in your sets. Variations force your body to grow, simply put. Just like what Gen said.
Start slow, dont go hard on from the beginning or you'll be talking to Ralph on the great white telephone alot and that doesn't make you cool whatsoever.
Like Bam said, safety first. Least is, get a training buddy who knows his stuff, preferably. When you have a buddy, you wont get bored and you get motivated more.
One more, work on your core alot more first (abdominals) before going intensive on upper body strength. Good luck.
By Karlfischer on 15/05/2008
I have heard that if you exercize correctly, you actually do not need to do that much for your abdominal muscles. In many lifting exercizes you will find that your abs are involved. Working your core might be a good idea, because your abs seem to be required for most exercizes. On the same token though, because you use your abs in so many exercizes, you can exercize them without actually doing any exercizes that only target your core.
I do handstand pushups...but these are ussually had to do unless you have a relatively light frame. They are alot more fun than doing regular pushups...I have to do like 70 regular pushups to get a good workout, but only 20 handstand pushups.
EDIT: If you still want to target abs, I would recomend a variety. Here is an exercize they used to have us do in cross country: 30 seconds regular full situps (not crunches, go all the way up), 30 seconds leg lifts (lift your legs up about 6 inches and hold), 30 seconds air-bike (lay on your back and more your legs in the air like you were riding a bicicle), 30 seconds crunches alternating sides (basically do a crunch so that your right elbow touches your right leg, and then your left elbow touches your left side).
Then take a short break and repeat if nesesary.

If you're set on doing things alone, you can do simple things like pushups and situps. However, since you;re going for abdominal muscles, the best thing you can do is eat a good diet. Chances are if you've been doing some abdominal exercise, you've got those muscles your stomach is just hiding them. Just change some things around with your diet and do situps daily and you should see those muscles start to pop-out.
As for upper body, you can't do much about that unless you've got a partner. You DO NOT want to lift alone if you're using free weights because its far to dangerous and honestly it's way to boring. You start doing things way faster than you should and you don't take breaks so you're only hurting yourself. Like Bam said, go to a gym and possibly bring a friend so you guys can spot each other. Start light, you don't want to go in there thinking you're going to bench 250lbs because you'll only mess up your arms. Do the same weight for about a week, and at the start of the next week see if you can do the next weight up. If it's to hard (like you can't even finish the first set of 10, or if you can but you struggle so much finishing it) then continue with the previous weight.
Work all your muscles evenly, because you don't really want enormous biceps with tiny triceps because that just looks weird.
Hope this helps.

i wanna do Abs too
By Angus0000 on 15/05/2008
Just remember to do everything slowly and gradually. Pushups and crunches are great, but even wrong technique there can hurt you. If you're working from home, a pair of dumbbells could be useful, just remember to strengthen your abs first so you don't kill your lower back. If you have any knowledgeable friends or family members that can help you do things right, don't be afraid to ask them for help.
As for making your abs show, an improved diet and fat-burning cardiovascular exercises could be the answer. Swimming will work incredibly well for everything you want to do, so if you have access to a pool, that would be beneficial. There's also running, which I do; just be careful in how much you run, because the impact can be bad for your joints.
Finally, the best advice is to start a stretching routine before and after you work out. This will reduce the pain you feel afterwards, and will improve your muscle construction.

I'd suggest u run regularly as i do boxing and i started running and it vastly impoves your overall fitness and burns excess fat. Dont use tredmills though their gay lol say hello to the great out doors.
once u run for a while you'll notice your stomache muscles better you have to get rid of ecess fat before you build stomache muscles or you wont see them but all the same they will be there. anyways start running

Keep this in mind: Anything you do, physically, will require the effort of at least one muscle in your body.
Good luck... And don't hurt yourself -- too much.

Remember anything you do can be taken away twice as quickly as you gain it.
If you wish to uphold and keep a good physic you need to keep training

As people have stated before, I'd go to the Gym and do a variety of excerises, technically, you don't always have to use muscle type machines such as weight lifting etc. to gain good Abs. If you run a lot, walk around a lot, do natural movements humans were born to do, then your body will be fit & healthy. What you eat is also important...if the calories you gain per day isn't weighed by how much you lose per day, then you'll gain that much per day. Say you take in 2500 Calories. You lose 2300 for natural stuff like breathing, walking, thinking, growing etc. and you don't do excersize that day, then you'll gain 200 Calories of fat added under your skin or wherever.
If you take in 2500 Calories, and lose 2700, the body will use the 2500 you took in, as well as 200 calories found from body fat, meaning you'll lose weight, and your physique will get better.
My two cents#

Getting abs is easy. If you're serious about fitness, join a gym, but it isn't really essential if abs is the only thing you want to get.
You can do a great deal in just 10 minutes, best done every other day (not every day). There's a variety of exercises you can do, but you can't go wrong with situps. Do it to the point you start it feeling to hurt, but don't overdo it. Any exercise you do will help out, you don't have to push to the maximum.
You must remember to work on your back muscles too if you're doing abs, because you need to remain the balance. Not doing that can give you a bad posture. You can strengthen your back muscles just by lying on your front with your arms out and lifting your legs up (and hold it for about 20 seconds). Its a good idea to work on the sides too, by twisting when you come up or whatever.
And remember, doing abdominal exercises makes up about 20% of gaining ab muscles. 60% is down to the diet, and 20% to cardiovascular exercise (running, swimming etc). You see 9 year olds with abs, because they have no fat on them. Its easy to get a 6-pack if you have no stomach fat to begin with.
Of course i wouldn't suggest just working on ab muscles and nothing else. Its good to balance out the workout.

My abs like, 3-4 months ago, I don't really do masive amounts of workouts on my abs, but this is what it's like with pretty much zero body fat.
By Pk Javin on 28/05/2008
i'm actually a body builder my self
check out my bodyspace -
http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/javinnn/Getting abs isn't easy, especially if u have fat layers over it.
Trying doing 4 different kind of ABS excersises each hitting different parts of the AB group.
The side, top, middle, and the lower.
With keeping the reps - 15-20 - which more burns the fat then gaining the muscle. While doing 4 different kind of ab excersises.
Remember DIET is 70-80% of what your results will really turn out to.
Since you are trying to get Abs, keep your protein intake HIGH, Carb and fat LOW, and GOOD fats is fine. (nuts, olive oil, fish...etc)
Join a local gym, it only helps and motivates you.
If u have any questions, feel free to ask me
