Hard to watch, but you should
By Stokenut on 15/05/2008
I've posted this video before. On the old forums a very long time ago, the vast majority of you will not have seen it.
You will need a strong stomach to watch this, likewise a willingness to listen and actually think about the points raised and shown. The demonstration footage in this video is not taken from isolated cases.
"Earthlings" is a feature length documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called "non-human providers."
The film uses actual footage of the industry standards for these creatures, demonstrating in five ways how animals have come to "serve" mankind.
You members all know me. But I guess many of you never understood how passionately I feel about this. I guess you could call me an animal rites activist, however I don't do too much. I feel posting this video here can only help the cause, I guess you could call what I'm doing here, "spreading the word", a little like evangelism.
I urge, in-fact BEG you all to take the 90 minutes out of your day to watch this.
Part 1:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GhxKnys7RywPart 2:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7sRiH_Owq9UPart 3:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=N8U9dw-9U4E---------------------------------------------------------
So, for those of you that care, I'll tell you guys what I do in order to "make a difference" as best I can. If just one person applies just one of these pointers to their own life then I've made a difference.
Clothing - Don't purchase/wear clothing made from the hide of other animals. Self explanatory
.
Food - Don't purchase Eggs from caged hens. Don't eat from fast-food restaurants.
Check the labels on your food to find out exactly where it came from, how it was killed, how it was treated even. It can all be worked out. The best way of doing this is to look for produce from animals marked as "free range". Take all you want, but eat all you take at mealtimes.
Cosmetic products - The make-up you're wearing now was probably tested on animals. You look beautiful just the way you are, limit what you wear.
Pets - Neuter them. (Pet owners that don't neuter their pets unknowingly take part in the euthanasia of 60,000 animals per day in the US.)
---------------------------------------------------
That's all i have to say really. I hope at least one of you takes the time to watch it all.
If you haven't watched it, don't reply. If any of you reply within the next 90 minutes I'll delete your post, as you obviously didn't watch it.

I saw it when you first psoted it.
It's hard to watch.
But it most definetly gets across the message.

This is a touchy subject for all who cover it. Not only is it a vast subject but there are so many people who are open to argue about it. I would rather see a politician argue over it then a couple of people but in any case a good argument always excites me so I will start.
I think that even though we do treat some animals bad, it is needed to breed chickens and many other species for their food as we are doing now. Doing this makes it possible to feed the people in the world and you cannot deny that.

Anyone whos disturbed easily, most certainly DO NOT watch this

Don't really wanna watch It.Last Animal thing I watched was a Peta video where they skinned animals alive was sickening.
By Parth23 Jani on 15/05/2008
(Havent watched it yet , will do tommorow)
Watched tons of stuff like this and PETA videos though.
I actually stopped eating meat etc after watching this kinda stuff years ago , very recently started eating some for protein but even now I try not to.
Some stuff that people do is f*cked up, like this one PETA vid about japanese and dolphins..That was revolting.
Cruelty to animals pisses me off , a lot. Cruelty to insects is fine though , i hate those f*ckers

Stopped watching once they put the LIVE DOG into a fucking Garbage truck and crushed it.
Probably one of the most useful movies on YouTube. I would of watched more but I just hate seeing that **** happening, especially to animals which I have sitting beside me.
I just can't watch the rest of it, it's too inhuman to even see this happening in the middle of the street and not do anything about it.

So are you telling me that just because we require some animals for food, that we should raise them inflicting pain and suffering upon them? Denying them of the most basic natural instincts? Pumping them full of drugs to make them grow unnaturally fast, so fast that their legs snap under their own weight?
Are you saying that they deserve to be branded, de-beaked, have their ears clipped, teeth removed, tails removed and neutered without even an anesthetic?
Are you saying that they should be slaughtered in the cheapest possible manor? Skinned while still alive, taking in some cases hours to die after going through the most agonizing pain imaginable?
All this opposed to the creature being allowed freedom of movement, warmth and shelter? A fast, painless death only once it's lived it's life in happiness, free of pain and suffering?

Finish watching it. Watch it all. Do it for stoke? <3

So you'll turn a blind eye, pretend you never saw it or had knowledge of it?

Watch it all. That's not even scratching the surface of what is revealed. If not for me then watch it for yourself.

Stop now and you'll forget what you saw. View the whole thing and let it sink in. Then maybe you'll actually do something about it resulting in a positive outcome.
I'm sorry if i sound a little harsh in my replies to you guys. But on this subject I'll fight you all to the death. <3

alot of stuff people don't realise goes on or turn a blind eye to.
really didn't like the part where dogs put in the gas chamber or put down at all really because it reminds me of when my dog was put down and the stupid vet couldn't find a vein and missed first time.
the way chickens are kept reminds me of the jamie oliver program that was on before, I hate the way some animals are kept just to make the most meat off them.
don't think i'll ever become vegetarian because it all depends where you get the meat from.
need to watch rest of it now
By Kiwi011 on 16/05/2008
watched it the 1st time......the part where they skinned the fox's and they crushed the dog was horrific.
Everyone in the world today should watch this and just think about what they buy from now on, and where it came from.
By Colinwarrior on 16/05/2008
Yeah, I already knew about this stuff. My mom is an animal rights activist and I have been exposed to this kind of inhumane torture of animals my whole life. Kinda explains why I'm so pessimistic about humanity and where we are going as a society.
By Cameronm123 on 16/05/2008
Watched all three the first time you posted it, there was alot of stuff that surprised me, especially the treatment of pigs and the 'Kosher' or 'Halal' meat.

I am very careful about my clothing and always read the labels. However last Winter I bought a beautiful coat with what I beleived to be fake fur around the hood. To my surprise the news showed my coat from JCPenny, and it was a special dog fur. OMG I cried for like a week and I got rid of it the same day by returning it and getting my full refund. Like $140 they had to eat and they wanted me happy and not making a scene. The label had said Faux fur. Which means fake. The department manager tried to calm me by saying not all the coats had dog fur on them but could tell I was ready to freak out.
I support my local zoo and animal shelters and all our family pets are rescued animals.
I am not against the animals hides used that we would be eating like cow or sheep. But the thought of anyone cutting up my dog for his beautiful fur is enough for me to want to ....... well you get the idea.
Didn't watch the video yet but I will and most likely have my siblings watch too. Thanks for the links.

I finished watching Part 1 earlier and was utterly disgusted, I plan to watch the next two parts soon when I have lots of free time.
It made me feel sick when I saw the fucking live dog thrown into a rubbish truck, when the cow's throats were being split and when their breathing tupes were flipping hanging out of their throat's.
I think it was a mixture of anger and sadness.
I'll write more when I've seen the rest
Edit: Aswell as when the dogs were gassed, omfg.

ive always have felt for animals the way u do stoke. i mean im not gunna turn vegitarian but i wish they would treat animals as we would or at least to the point where they have a some what comfertable living until they die and they dont have to let them know they are gunna die before they do im mean what if those guys were gunna get treated like that for a week i be they would never go back to their job or even look at an animal in contempt
By Gibble00 on 18/05/2008
Oh God, I just ate a steak before coming to this topic.
AHH AHH. But the dogs!!!
Can't watch, can't do it. *runs*
By Tnuac on 18/05/2008
I never wear animal hides, always buy free-range eggs, obviously not a huge fan of cosmetics, and we neuter all of our cats (except the newest one, which would be impossible to catch atm, and its female anyway).
I'll watch the video once exams are finished. I've seen quite a few cases of animal cruelty, so I can guess what's coming.

Late post, but I just wanted let you know that I took the time to watch it, Stoke.
It provides a deep insight into the ugly side of life, and I'm glad you brought it to my attention. Thanks.
I wear very little leather... Except my belt. I also have a strong respect for animals; all animals. In most cases, I am consumed by the obligation to show appreciation for my food. In otherwords: I make a short prayer or take the time to remind myself of the sacrifices made for my food, before eating it. I'm a religious person; it's what religious people do.
I, however, have not been convinced to become a vegetarian. Although I am greatly sickened by the gross lack of respect some people have for animals, I also need meat, and will continue to eat it. That's just my general stance on the issue, without implying that you were trying to convince me of becoming one.
Animals also eat other animals, sometimes, in equally as brutal ways.
Many would be comfortable accepting this as natural because animals may not be able to immediately comprehend the concept of compassion when they're acting on primal instincts that may determine their survival... However, that may also somewhat contradict the belief that animals possess equally as perceptive abilities, both mentally and physically, in regards to our own.
It's a very broad subject.
That isn't to say that some of the people shown in the documentary weren't sickening -- they were.
But I can't blame human-beings, as a whole, for killing to eat. With life comes death. The nature of nature is complex. One could only hope to truly understand it.
From the evidence presented in this documentary, I feel it is important to improve our methods. There's no denying that the living conditions and handling of "produce" animals are generally poor... Which, logically, makes perfect sense.
It's unfortunate that these habits, however, won't change so easily -- if ever.
I find my tolerance level for such visual brutality and gore is high, but one part, in particular, struck me deep.
I could barely stand the sound of that little piglet's squeals of agony as they clipped it's ears, tail and teeth. It made me cringe inside.
And it's not that these things weren't necessary... It's that they weren't done differently, in consideration for the animal's suffering. I can't completely place the blame on the people for not being able to afford the medication, either. (Which, in another argument, would justify the experimental testing on animals... To confirm the effects of pain-numbing chemicals)...
The world is a f*cked-up place, even outside our share of responsibility. Unfortunately, that knowledge, alone, leads us nowhere.
I would say that it's best to simply accept that these things happen in life... But it'd probably be better off if we didn't. Fear is essential. It's what keeps us conscious of the unfavorable realities... Lest we forget.
By Bambaleo on 06/06/2008
no thanks...i like eating meat and i would like to continue beeing able to enjoy it.
but i do understand that some of the ppl out there are total f*ck ups...some1 should do that to them tbh. I love animals, i really do, except cats, i hate those little sh*ts.
By Squelchyfish on 12/06/2008
I have seen one of these you posted on the last forums about the dolphins quite touching >:/

I have to agree with Bamb to be honest. I have to keep my appetite.
By Pbplayer on 20/06/2008
I watched the first one, and I stopped.
I disagree with the "things you can do to stop it" the truth is, it won't stop. There is nothing you can do to stop inhumane and unsanitary behavior involving animals.
Let me just say that I am a hunter, and I have killed animals while hunting. But, I also do it in the most humane and natural way that I can. The video shows what bored, and stupid people do, and to say that you can help stop it by not eating at fast food places, or buying certain things at the store just won't happen. I agree that the things that took place in this video were wrong, and nowhere near just, but there is really nothing you can do to stop it. Life is about money, and people will do pretty much anything to make money, even if it means acting in a barbaric and inhumane manner.
Lastly, I fail to see how you could stop any of this by neutering your pets. Personally my parents breed and sell Cocker Spaniels and Boxers, it's not like we're selling them to the people that did the horrible things in this documentary.
