Locking Topics

By Tmal34 on 16/05/2008
I'm hoping everyone who can lock topics checks here.
Would you PLEASE leave a reason for locking it when you do.

It is really quite frustrating to see the last post in a topic be by someone who can't lock it, and have there be absolutely no reasons given for closing it. It isn't that hard to write one line justifying your action.

The example I'm looking at now is Zhero' s topic. It was fine locking it, that doesn't bother me, but the reasoning should always be given in my opinion.

So please leave messages hash.png

Yeh, maybeletting them know why it was locked will help them remember what not to do on any new topics they make.

By Winddancir on 16/05/2008
Okay, you have a point there. If I lock something, I'll try to make sure there's at least some info. Though I think I normally do that....

I don't lock a lot of topics, but when I do, I always give a reason.

Locked-

Reason: I love Thomas.

I don't have a lock button

By Mager123789 on 16/05/2008
Hm yea, well i still dont get why Zhero's topic got locked.
a lot of people were giving their opinions, and there was a discussion, but not really a fight or a flamewar..

By Parth23 Jani on 16/05/2008
Agreed.
Same with deleting posts , instead of deleting couldnt you just edit them out saying something like 'Edited:No flaming.' hash.png

By Indivi2you on 16/05/2008
Yeah, whenever i lock topics, i leave a reason.

By Pazenon on 16/05/2008
Agreed hash.png some topics get locked for nothing.

So... I'm assuming that means Emeritus can't.

Is there a criteria for what kinds of topics get locked?

I'm sure topics filled with insults and flames and such get locked, but some topics like others have said get locked with some justification, but sometimes that line of reasoning isn't that much.

By Valdremia on 18/05/2008
Support. It works short term to lock without explanations or obvious e-dramas but it works badly over long term. And actually works badly overall. It creates duress and uncertainties of closure somewhat. Always good to explain, even if its a bad decision learn from it, if its a good one, its rewarded accordingly.

Btw, just might as well. Could we kindly indicate if events are f2p or p2p? Some events are p2p for sure just by the activity but things shared between f2p and p2p - there isn't a consistent habit to state. I can't tell if I can or cannot go. Especially if its EST times, people in Australia and Asia needs to prep ahead if it suits, even to get up really early.

It doesn't matter the reasoning in my opinion.
The topic could be PURE flame, but the mod or whoever locks it should say that in my opinion.

When looking back on topics, especially in the future if what is defined as flame has changed, it is good to know the reasoning behind the lock.
