Trial sytsem Revamp

My trial system proposal

At the moment the trial system has a variety of small flaws, the main problem’s I see with it at the moment are:

Tracking of time in the clan
At the moment it is fairly difficult to track how long someone has actually been a trial member for when considering their graduation application. A good example of this is Pk_Javin, who had actually been a member of WG forums over a month before he posted an application. I was also the same when I applied; I had joined WG forums about a month or even 2 before I applied.

Tracking their current event count
The way it is set up at the moment we have to rely on the pic’s they provide on their topic, and I am fairly sure we wouldn’t make the effort to check whether they actually attended those events. It would be easier to have the event leaders post the event name and a link to the Recap.

Feedback from members
This is the big failure of the current system is it really doesn’t allow for much input from our member base without the trial member being able to see what they say. This is pretty bad as I would guess that 90% of members would not PM us if they saw a trial member behaving badly, and almost every member would not PM us if they did something particularly different/good.

As much as I would like to say that we do, there is not always a council member online, nor is there always a tertiary on to see what happens. By allowing Members+ to give input on Trail’s we will get a much more accurate impression of how they are progressing, and if we see a bad pattern emerging we can contact people within their time-zone to help them change.

Summary

Overall the main aim of any changes would be to gain a better understanding of how Trail members progress through their first month in WG as a trail member.

So for the changes…..

Firstly, a new (sub) forum which contains a thread for each current trial member, with Members+ having access to it. When a member’s application is processed the application manager creates a thread in this forum containing this information:

QUOTE

Trial Start date:

Trail End date:

Timezone (GMT +/-):

Introduction topic:
Application topic:

CODE

Event Name/date: Example event, Example Date

Event recap: www.Exampleevent.com

Please members, feel free to post any feedback about [a trail member], be it good or bad, on this topic as it assists us when deciding upon their graduation.

Giving event leaders an easy to use format to enter events into, even if they have to post this on multiple members it is able to be just Copy/pasted onto each topic.

Once the member has graduated we can move the topic to a sub forum (something like “Graduated”) which only tertiary’s+ can view.

Thoughts?

I'm concerned about the complexity and workload this would add on. I agree with the aim of the system, but it'll need an awful lot of work to maintain from the Tertiaries and the Council. We already have problems with much of the "b*tch-work" (Forum work, Attendance work, Board Header updating, Admin CP work etc...), so adding even more of the work for the staff would mean either more motivation from the staff in general, or the addition of new hardworking staff members.

Actually super easy, just check the app archive and the last post date of their app, using Ctrl + F.

If they don't have pics, we rely on the attendance list. If the attendance list is already somewhat slightly inaccurate, how would an individual topic for each member be more accurate?

I totally agree concerning the members input part, as long as they are provided with accurate information concerning the activity & noticeable facts concerning the TG.
