Connection drops at midnight...

By Samurai-JM on 15/06/2008
Halp plox.

My internet has been a bit goofy since I got it back... It cuts out at precisely 12:00 AM (est) every single night. I have a Linksys router, I'll get model number and all that crap later, but does anyone know what the problem might be? It's freaking ANNOYING when you're playing WoW and get kicked out of the server and die every night. ><

Does the internet stay down? Or is it just a loss of connection then you can reconnect?
If it stays down, how long is it down for?

I remember you posting that you were grounded from the internet, are you still grounded?

It could be your ISP doing maintenance, and they are rebooting their servers at midnight, or it could be a router setting, much like how you can tell programs to search for updates everyday at a certain time.

Wha else is going on?

Some internet service providers rotate through their IP addresses, giving you one for only 24 hours then assigning you another. A quick phone call to your internet provider could get you a static IP address if this is the problem.

Ok well i spoke to my dad as he works for a phone company
He claims this problem is called Routine Testing
This means every night at the same time for about a month your phone company will test your line. this makes your internet drop connection. You need to ring up your phone company and get it taken off.

i think your mom has called the internet company and set a time to turn off.

no cuz it comes back instantly. it just resets itself or something, just long enough to disconnect me, but then i can get right back on.

if it's not your ISP, check to see how what time your DHCP stuff expires.
