When Abs stated his intention to have automatic promotion to Higher Guardian after 6 months I was shocked to say the least, as this rea;y doesn't sit with my current understanding of what the requirements for higher guardian are, succinctly:

-Greet new members
-Make High Quality Posts of a certain Length
-Be Helpful
-Positive attitude (no negativity)
On IRC:
-Say hello to people who enter
-Don't spam, repeat lines too much
-Spamming event notifications when they are approaching
-Be Helpful
-Avoid flaming, provocation
On RuneScape:
-Attend Events as frequently as possible.
-Add other WG members and speak to them
-Train combat skills
-Coming to another member if he needs help
On RSC/Public Forums:
-Display a positive image of WG
-Follow that forum's rules
-You represent WG, so don't flame/bait
-Attempt to recruit members to the clan
Overall:
Be helpful, enthusiastic, mature, active, polite, don't suck up, strive to be as good a member as you can. Participation remains very important. |
So to me the time a person has been in WG in no way effects wether they are promoted to the rank of higher guardian or not.
Why do I think that this idea is bad?
My main reason for not liking this is that it doesnt really focus on the main qualities that I actually look for in Higher/elite Guardians. Looking at our current memberlist there is several members on there that are currently guardians who according to a "6 month rule" should be promoted either now, or soon:
-Kwachi
Currently Inactive, and I hardly see him on either IRC, forums, or in game.
-Kero2
Does anyone ever see kero? he has mediocre event attendance, and is nowhere near as active as he was before the forum switch. Only graduated after we forced him to.
-Spanthrax
Do we really want him as a higher? he moans ALLOT, and after his recent flaming of crucio he has gained a fairly high warn rating
-Pminouge
Doesnt even have her own account....
And due for pormotion in the next few months according to 6 month rule is:
-Gunsnblades
-Useph1 (only just graduated)
-Tiran000 (Have had problems with her and her bot lately, fairly inactive too)
-Vert Night (spends more time on his pure, never really has fitted in with WG)
-Ahrims Pure (Never really been either IRC or event active)
The point I am trying to make is that even though a member may have been in WG for 3/6/12 months they are not nessacarily ready to fulfill the expectations that we place on people who hold the rank of Higher Guardian.
I prefer our current method of promotion where we discuss who is contributing best to WG in lvl 3 before making any decisions, as we get a fairly good coverage from 15-20 active Tertiary+ members, so the decision is noramlly fairly accurate.
