Sometimes the unit runs out of chairs, according to the lawsuit, forcing people to wait on foam mats or on the waiting room floor. The suit also claims that bathrooms are filthy and filled with flies, and that patients who complain too loudly are sometimes handcuffed, beaten or injected with psychotropic drugs. |
What. The. Hell.

I believe Hilary Clinton would have done something about this if she won.
She has the best health care reform strategy out of all the main presidential candidates.

too bad health reform would do nothing to places like that.........
dont forget how her husband was as president.........it would be exactly the same, the lower class would double and the gap between higher-mid class-lower class would be huge, and probably will anyways since all our candidates suck and aren't worrying about the things they should....

While Bill was in office Hilary was basically president. She gave him all the insight and all that other crap. So I wouldn't forsee any medical reforms.
You can also see in the video that other patients just sat there and did not try to help her. Oh and what happened to the other 50 minutes of the video. Thats what is wrong with t.v. You don't see what happened in the rest of the time.

Lordy, if you live in America, you would understand that the only way to fix the health care system is to get the bloody government out of it, get rid of all those regulations (HMOS, etc), and stupid taxes.
A universal healthcare system wouldn't really do much more then increase the cost of medical equipment.
There is a law in the US called Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), I am lazy atm, so I just copy and paste this off wikipedia:
QUOTE |
In 1986 congress passed a law commonly referred to as EMTALA (Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, also known as the Patient Anti-Dumping Law) to address a growing concern that EDs were refusing to treat patients based on their inability to pay. This law requires every ED to provide a minimal level of care to all comers regardless of their ability to pay.
The EMTALA act was passed by congress in 1986. Under this law, any person presenting to an Emergency Department is entitled by law to a Medical Screening Exam. The purpose of that exam is to determine if any illness or injury is present that without immediate intervention, could have serious consequences if treatment is delayed more than 24 hours. In practice, doing so often requires a full evaluation of all patients presenting to an Emergency Department. Only after that exam is fully complete may patients be referred to an outpatient clinic or their primary care physician if their condition and/or diagnosis allows it. According to a May 2003 American Medical Association (AMA) study, emergency physicians annually provide, on average, $138,300 of uncompensated care under the aegis of EMTALA. |
So by all means, the lady was suppose to have been put through screenings, and should have been fixed up by the doctors.
I personally have worked part time in a hospital (as an IT intern), everytime, from when I get to work and get off work, the waiting rooms are almost always filled with people.
There aren't as much state taxes here in California or medical facilities, but the state regulations are pretty much the same as New York. The federal government plays the biggest role right now, because the value the US dollar is going down and with it the cost of living goes up.
Hillary would have just continued in the same direction but just on a different path.

I live in America and I didn't know that.

Makes perfect sense, it's just not something I'd looked into. I wish they'd leave education alone as well, THAT would have me out dancing in the streets. We just don't have a government that understands the whole concept of "hands off."
As far as ERs in general are concerned, they've almost killed me twice, so I don't like them much.

Privatised health care is so wrong.
Why should we trust our health in people who want our money.
At least the government will be less in it for the profit and more in it for your own well being. You're the only country in the Western world to not have public medicine.

I love Britain and it's (Free) National Health Service. I mean, sure it has it's problems, but at least you know you'll get seen, and get treatment you need, and deserve. After all, who can put a price on the sanctity of life?

From what I experienced with the British Healthcare system (when the ambulance came to pick up Stokenut) it's pretty darn good. Took the ambulance about 45 minutes to arrive which seemed like forever, but in retrospect for London, that's not too bad considering the population.
By Firelion08 on 02/07/2008
Wow, America is hell.
Luckily, I was born an Aussie; I can handle the heat.

Last time I had an ambulance phoned for me (Alcohol related obviously). It was outside in about 5-10minutes. At midnight.

US Mail isn't a direct branch of the government and they're doing just fine.

Banking too, although that's got it's own quagmires. There's ways of setting stuff up so that it's not exactly "privatized" (meaning the mail more than the banks). That's all hypothetical though, it'd never happen.

i'm not even trying to be racist (or am 1 for that matter)
but i doubt this would have happened in a white neighborhood.
whats with the bitch in tan?
was sitting there chilling the whole time.
I guess the sound of someone collapsing to the tiled floor will go unheard.

Thats awful, Eck ur prolly right

Heh.
Another reason I'm growing to dislike people (in general)
Not that I hate everyone, but I just think the human race, as a whole, have grown to destroy this beautiful world.
And yes, I'm American.
I hate it here.

Back in the 50s-70s, American health care was almost 100% privatised, I mean people could afford health care.
Now I don't know enough about the Australian's government or that of other countries, but in the US, the government at all levels are about as corrupt as the corporations and lobbyists.
I don't trust for-profit hospitals either, but government won't do any better by creating more regulations and taxes, or by taking over the role of caring for the populace.
The CIA and other governments departments has previously done tons of inhumane experiments to the unsuspecting population.
http://www.umedia.com/MediaMike/GovAtrocities.htmlI rather take my life with people who just want money, then put it into the hands of people who want to use me as human guinea pig.

Similar news story again today with a woman who collapsed out of a wheelchair and went without help. News story referenced the one in this topic.
