By Palidore on 16/07/2008
For any of you who have been keeping up with E3.

O . M . G .

Here's an interview I posted on Youtube (credit to Gamespot for the actual video) with a rep from Zipper Interactive discussing a bit about the game:

I don't get it. It's basically an RTS game except they are calling it a MassiveActionGame instead.

it sounds like any game.......teams of 8 are small tho....

Oh, you mean it's multiplayer missions with up 256 people playing at a time? Holy shit if that's the case. That's like BF2 except times like 5 or something. Not bad I guess. I resign my earlier comment IF that's what they mean by 256 people.

Yes, that'd be it.

Battlefield x4 on the PS3.

Two teams of 128 vs 128 with the options for eight player squads Battlefield-style.

Also, here's an E3 interview with a Zipper representative I posted on Youtube discussing the game:

Well that's just pretty damn awesome. My brother has a PS3 but never uses it and also never lets me in his room to play. So I'll probably have to wait for the game to come to PC or another game that is like that, which I'm sure will come around.

Doubt it, as much as I <3 my 360, something like this could only be possible on the PS3 at this point. Computers are susceptible to the killer of online gaming, LAG, and the xbox just couldn't handle something that massive. The PS3 is where this one will stay for a while. Oh well!

What do you mean? Computer are equally as powerful as PS3's. It's really an issue of whether you have the video card to run this. All you need is a 8600 or better. And 8600's are about $120-160.

It's already been confirmed a PS3 exclusive though, so that's that.

As far as anything similar coming on the PC, there really isn't one I can think of. There is Huxley, which is a up-and-coming shooter that will support like 200 players, but it's pretty low-budget and probably won't end up that good.

Battlefield 3, though not officially announced, is set to release in 2009, and it's already confirmed by leaked documents to support just 80 players.

So for the time being, MAG seems like one of a kind. Looks like you'll have to beat up your brother for that PS3 wink.gif

Huxley is gonna be mad amazing, I don't know what you're saying. It's gonna be one of its kind. An MMOFPS (although RPG style, customize your weapons and usable vehicles(mounts). Not to mention its been in the making for 5 years, and most games that have been in the making for 5 years end up being killer.

By Kiwi011 on 22/07/2008
It wont be on the pc cuz if it was Microsoft would steal it dur.

By Bassism on 22/07/2008
Think how long that's gonna take to find a match. And the servers it runs on will have to be massive, you wont be able to host a game on a PS3 (Halo/CoD style).

Doesn't really change the fact that it's a low-budget title though tongue.gif

If things would have gone smoothly, it would have been out a long time ago. Instead it's been delayed with no official announcements regarding it, and it the past two or three years I've known about the game, there's been next to nothing as far as any kind of new info or anything.

Keep expectations low.

Thank god I have a ps3 ffs

First in-game screenshot of MAG. Doesn't immediately look like it sacrificed too much on the graphics side at least. And dozens of people para-dropping behind enemy lines = epic.

It will be a complete lag fest. From what my mate told me resistance fall of man was laggy enough on 32 players. I doubt a first time game is gonna pay for the super servers that would be needed to make it run half smooth

By Palidore on 05/08/2008
It'll be fine, they wouldn't announce it if it didn't work.

Resistance 1 did not lag at all with 32. If it was with your friend, it's because he had a bad connection. Besides that, Resistance 2 is coming out in a few months, which will support 60 players.

As far as MAG goes, utilizing Zipper's own technology, Zipper's experience with (online) games, the capabilities of the PS3*, and the use of dedicated servers (like an mmo), the game should turn out fine. Plus Zipper made a small post on the Playstation blog a few weeks ago and did make a statement telling the people who are worrying...well, not to worry wink.gif.

*It's been stated that no game on the PS3 as of yet has even used close to 100% of the system's power.
