Mentor System
By Abmanju on 16/07/2008
Most of the Council feel that mentoring will keep track of our Trial Guardians and bring our Community back to life. As it will make people bond with Trial Guardians. However it could be a double edged sword depending on who the mentor is.
Discuss, yes or no?
Personally, I'd love to have it back, it will cover many areas in one.

Definate yes, I think mentor systems work very well. It helps you to get to know the newer members as well as asses their capability to be a Guardian.

I'd say yes, I enjoyed mentoring new members, actually being able to get to know them.

Im definitely in agreement, but we may want to make some slight changes
Reports - I've said this before a couple of times, but im restating kist incase anyone didnt see it. All mentors must pay attention to a mentee's activity, attitude, etc and see if hes a good candidate for the clan. Every couple of weeks, the mentor will give a report. People coming in that become trials will no longer just disappear without no one knowing. The mentor will keep track of activity, keeping our ML clear.
Its clear that the mentor system will have a very beneficial impact on community. The real question we should be trying to answer now is:
Why did the mentor system fail before, and what can we do to make sure it doesn't happen again?

All that has to be said. I loved Mentoring, I've had such great mentees. They've all turned out great tbh.

I think perhaps a mentee report system should exist where mentors much fill out a form detailing their mentees progress.

Quick question, Who would the mentors consist of? Guardian+? Higher+? Elite+? Tertiary+?

Great idea, which Council member brought this idea back up?????? man they deserve awards
By George on 17/07/2008
Yes yes god yes!
In my council app I posted that I wanted to see the mentor programme back, it was really good for new members who don^t really knoiw what to do at the beginning of their time in WG...
SO BRING IT BACK!!

Use it!

Remember the negatives though guys.
Some mentors don't do anything.
Someone has to assign them.
It's a logistical bitch.
By DZ on 17/07/2008
I already agreed with bringing this back at the council meeting.
If and when we do restore the Mentor System, I would like to be involved in assigning mentors and such.
By Buzzard1985 on 17/07/2008
Yeah, it always helped before.

I tihnk we shouldnt just allow people to sign up to be a mentor. Rather, we should make them apply for it and lvl 3 looks over it. It should be based on attitude, and the person should make the mentee feel welcome.

I do think that we should limit who can be a mentor, by rank and by application.
Some Guardians may do a good job, but also, let's give them a reason to want to be Higher or Elite. With rank comes privileges AND responsibilities.
Set aside a special section in forums under the security section. For reports, comments, questions... For the Mentors at least. Then set maybe in H&G where the mentor/mentee assignments are? Or would that go more in IA or General Matters?
By George on 18/07/2008
Yeah I agree with what Tabs said about Higher/Elite + for mentors.
I have the time to make this work, especially over my long summer, which after Sunday leaves me with nothing to do except WG and RS

If we do bring it back we should all have a big meeting (like we did for Pro Silentium) and completely re-think the system and bring it back NEW AND IMPROVED!

I'd prefer people higher and above to be mentoring, I'd like to sign up as mentor because I kicked ass last time
By Winddancir on 21/07/2008
I feel the mentor system failed before because there wasn't any checks and balances. A lot of pairings worked out good... But then it kind of fell to the side. There does need to be some sort of report coming back from the mentor.
