I was thinking the same thing but I thought my German was so bad I couldn't make sense of it.

I'm well aware of the un-reversibility.
It's from Beethoven's 9th Symphony, so it's correct. Flat translation is weird... This is what it's directly translated to-
"Via the star tent God directs as we arranged"
so, that... Vs. "Above the Starry Canopy, God Judges as we have Judged".
It's a little different, but, same meaning for the most part. It all depends on how you take it.
