Attendance List & Activity

By Abmanju on 10/08/2008
Well, a month ago or so I thought to myself and with the opinions of other Council/Staff: "Man, the attendance list is so hard, complicated and boring to update, there must be an easier way for us to monitor activity, and for that, we need to fix updating attendance"

I couldn't think of anything, the ideas I thought of were probably all too hard to do on our Forums lol, so I went to Robbie and proposed my "Idea". As he always does, he magically had a better idea than mine lol, as he knows the limits of these forums.

Robbie came up with the idea of Rolling Event Count.
I will explain how this works.

You have Two new fields, as you've already noticed:
-Total Events ~
Total Events is the number of Total Events you have been to.
-The colourful bar ~
The Rolling Event count is how we monitor your Activity.

This is how it works:

1. You attend an event.
2. As always, attendance is taken.
3. Staff go to this link: http://www.wildernessguardians.com/attendance/edit.php
4. It'll redirect members to just the attendance list, but we see this:
user posted image

5. As you can see, there are tick boxes to add 1 or subtract 1 to your attendance, then hitting "Update" will update your attendance.
6. What exactly will this do? This will add 1 Counter to your Total Events, it will also add 1 Counter to your Rolling Event count, which will affect the colourful bar on your forums. What does the Rolling Event counter exactly do you ask? Well every week on Saturday 08:00 British Summer Time the counter will reduce by 1. We will check every Sunday Morning GMT for anyone on -1, we will check Inactivity to weed out anyone inactive, then they will be spoken to and if continue will get warnings and removed from the clan unless a valid excuse is given.

AbsJr
Total Events ~ 105
Rolling Events ~ 2

AbsJr has attended 4 Events recently.

AbsJr
Total Events ~ 105 +4 = 109
Rolling Events ~ 2 +4 = 6 (Colourful Bar closer to green)

Ah, but however:

DaleJr
Total Events ~ 10
Rolling Events ~ 2

DaleJr has not attended any events for 3 weeks !!!!!

DaleJr
Total Events ~ 10
Rolling Events ~ -1

Oh dear! DaleJr has -1 Events, this means he hasn't attending his one event a week!, he will be spoken to, and if he does it again within the next 2 months, he will get a 20% Warn!

---------

That is it really, ONCE AGAIN, I'd like to Thank Robbie for setting everything up, oh and also to George for doing a brilliant job getting everyone's Total Attendance transferred, and many other stuff.

Thanks guys,

~Abs

Immense idea for activity, best in all clans tbh

No no, I was just trying to show you how we actually update it.

All YOU have to do is come to the event and make sure someone gets the attendance pic xD Leave the rest to us.

Looks good, hopefully it will work for the better of the clan

In my opinion it's an EXCELLENT idea. Updating the old attendance was so very very tedious. This should make it a lot easier and also more accurate. I love the idea of a rolling event attendance.

One suggestion though: In order for it to not be used for possibly bullying or slagging someone off for their low event attendance count, i'd probably suggest it being like warn levels. Each user can see their own bar, and also the Tertiary Leaders+ (The ones who can make changes).

2. As always, attendance is taken.

i was going through the events I attended since i rejoined on June 5th there was about 3 events, No Attendence. I had a list of 9-10 events and George could only give me credit for 5 of them.

Not complaining.

But maybe the reason the attendence is so hard to update is because of that.

That's really nice, good job robbie.

Seems a little too complex. Is an event attendance count really worth all this work?

It just think that members will come to events when they want and that's that. WG has never been a clan to be so strict with...well...anything really. dry.gif

I love the simplicity of the idea. I saw Robbie testing the script out (what will show up depending on your rank) in IRC. I was wondering what it was for, and now I understand. Thanks to everyone who made this happen <33.

Totally agree with you here. I'm not that active in attending events myself.
Not into spending most of my day in front of my computer when most of the events are at like midnight. dry.gif

I hope the council/tertiaries take special circumstances (timezones, for instance) into consideration.

Don't think they will.

By Abmanju on 10/08/2008
It's only One Event a week, there's lots of Events, I'm sure you can come to at least one, and hey if you go to 2 for a week, you can miss out on the next week, we have reduced our strictness a lot.

And it isn't complex, this is by far the easiest way to update attendance yet! xD

I'm not saying that the amount of required events is daunting, it's the fact that there's a requirement. sleep.gif

By Woolachee on 10/08/2008
i like it, and i think everyone should be able to see attendance, cause then the guardians get on peoples asses to get active =-D

nothing worse then feelin inactive.

The requirement was there before, its just that no one bothered to enforce it(aside from extreme cases). As such, everyone complained about members being inactive, and said that they were active... Well, here is absolute proof of someones (in)activeness. Also, only Active Member Ranks will have one deducted from the rolling count each week - Emeritus don't have that.

I am also thinking of changing it a bit, such that official war attendance counts as double, as an incentive. Perhaps also make a bunch of training sessions(Piling, hugging, spamming, tanking and such) which count also?

Glad to know its fixed!

My dear dear brothers & sisters, you constantly amaze me. It is an ingenious idea! Yes I think Robbie does not get enough "pats of the back". Great "out of the box" idea. Impressive.

But, I agree with Collinwarrior, people will come to the events as they like. This is not school. Sre we really going to put that much pressure on the pure fun people and when all is said and done, it is a just a game and the clan is a "social" club. You support it by choosing to be in it and attend events when you can. IRL does have a way of interfering.

I promise you get better results with positive incentives rather than negative, attendance should not be a badge of honor, rather the levels and ranking of our member in the game.

As always, WG wub.gif

I gud event attender wut

By Kwaichi on 18/08/2008
i dont like this idea... i think i iwll end like very inactive memeber = ban for me sad.gif
seriously... i cannot attend so much events you want from me because of no time irl, i would like ot attend more, but i dont want to ruin my rl life because of rs
RL > RS

By Useph1 on 19/08/2008
Most efficient way to count attendance I've seen to date in a RuneScape clan. Nice work Robbie and George.

By Randy on 19/08/2008
Awsome work, hope it works!

By Tnuac on 26/08/2008
Its supposed to be colourful?

For me its just plain white, with a black square randomly placed in it.

Aside from that, superb work robbie.
