Perfect World Beta

By Palidore on 16/08/2008
As per usual of me, I'm here to inform you all of some game that most probably don't know about wink.gif .

I'm not up to really typing a whole lot, so I'll keep it short:

Perfect World is a free to play (formerly subscription based) popular mmorpg in Asia, which has now been fully translated into English along with servers that are based in North America (not sure about Europe, haven't checked). It won many awards upon release ranging from gameplay to graphics and audio, and still remains one of the most content-rich free to play games of its type today.

Anyway, the beta starts on August 19th. Thus far many thousands of keys have been given out, but there's still plenty more for those interested. Several sites were giving them away, and the following is one of them:

http://www.mmoabc.com/Perfect-World-Giveaway.html (NEW LINK- other site ran out of keys surprisingly fast. This one has plenty keys to give.)

So just Google Perfect World for more info to see if you might be interested at all, and if so get your key, and (hopefully) have fun tongue.gif.

I'd seen a render from the game... And wondered about it...

Congratulations, you have activated your beta key for Perfect World International!

It looks fun. I'll try it out. ohmy.gif

Edit: I'm confused. No matter how many times I try to log in, it says my name is wrong. So I try to recover my name/password, and it says my e-mail address isn't valid. So I tried making a new account, but my e-mail is already in use. Forget it, I give up. xD

By Palidore on 17/08/2008
I actually had that problem at first- just remember that you made two names when you registered- an account name and a nickname...log in with the account name. Worked for me tongue.gif.

Okay, I got it to work.

I didn't know that my account needed e-mail verification, and it went into my Junk E-Mail box, so nothing popped up telling me I had an e-mail to check.

Regardless, I got it now. hash.pnghash.png Just gotta download the client.

Betas starting tomorrow, everyone get your keys tongue.gif.

Here are some tidbits of info/commentary about the game I've learned about
:
-You can play it free forever if you want, but there's an in-game cash mall where you can get certain items for real life money, of course.

-Towns are actually populated with player shops, which sounds pretty cool.

-There's a nice amount of quests in the earlier levels of the game, but quests do grow thinner as you progress.

-There are dungeons to raid for nice exp, loot; the typical.

-There are lots of in-game community events that are held on a regular basis- some weekly, others monthly

-The world is entirely seamless with no major loading times except for dungeons.

-Content updates come out on a regular basis.

-Customer service in the game is *supposed* to be quite exceptional.

-There is a purely awesome feature in the game called territory wars. What it is, is that the entire world is devided into a bunch of territories which can be taken over by guilds. On a regular (weekly I think) basis, each territory in the world is fought over by the current owners of the land and an opposing guild in a massive 80 vs 80 battle, where the winner gets to have the given territory and with that reaps some various bonuses and bragging rights.

To conclude, Perfect World is one of the best looking free to play games both graphic and content-wise, and has handfuls of awards to show for it from the Asian versions of the game. It's looking really polished, and really good overall, and I'm hoping it'll live up to it's name; or at least my expectations smile.gif.

Edit: Here's a pretty good Territory War video with audio commentary that should give you all a good idea about what it's like. Yes, I realize the person commentating sounds like a 13 year old, but you'll have to bear with it tongue.gif.

It sounds fun. I kinda can't wait 'til the Beta, but tbh, I hope it's not overly complicated.

Well, after a few hours of playing it tonight (it's late), I gotta say that I'm satisfied and overall impressed with PW. It actually is very fun and in my opinion great quality/value compared to any other free to play games out there (except RS, of course wink.gif ). Just make sure you all remember that it is in fact a free game your playing...don't think that you payed $50 for it or are paying a subscription, or else it might disappoint wink.gif.

The graphics are nice looking, all the typical mmo tools and features you would expect seem to be fully intact plus some extra stuff you don't normally see in mmos such as a coordinate system, quest finding, etc. The character customization is very impressive, GM presence in the game is nice, and everything seems to play out as expected. Only complaints thus far is the somewhat clunky UI (which I believe can be modded anyway) and certain areas of the game not as well polished as it could be.

Definitely anxious on playing some more tomorrow.

Oh, btw for those who are playing it, just note that when the closed beta ends in about a month or so, characters WILL be wiped...so don't invest *too* much time in your characters just yet smile.gif.

I was a second from considering downloading the game, then realized, heck, if I play this I may as well just play WoW again. Though, there was no beta keys left for me anyways sad.gif

By Palidore on 19/08/2008
Yeah, realized that the link I gave is out of keys now.

Here's another site though that has over 9000 (WHAT 9000!?) keys still if you ever do become interested tongue.gif

I thought it was decent fun overall.

I played a Winged Elf Archer, of course. tongue.gif I like that I can fly. cool.gif

Also made a Blademaster and Venomancer...one thing that bugs about the Veno is that it's like one of the anime cat girls and it annoys me. XD

I'll admit that it sports decent game play and very nice graphics for a F2P game. As Pali said, the customization is very impressive. One of the hairstyles makes me think of that old guy that uses Taijutsu in Soul Caliber tongue.gif Another reminds me of Dante from DMC ^^

If ya got some time on your hands, go ahead and check it out.

By Mistah Vince on 19/08/2008
I haven't tried yet. How long does the Beta run for btw?

By Palidore on 19/08/2008
EDIT

Whoops, I take back my previous statement. Looks like closed beta will actually end on August 27 (characters will be wiped) and then open beta will start on September 2 where everything will be permanent.

So only 1 week of closed beta compared to the formerly advertised month. I'm more happy with it like that anyway, as I'd hate to play for a full month and get my characters deleted.

By RobbieThe1st on 09/09/2008
It is now open as an Open Beta - Anyone can play now, no codes or anything.
