If it ends up that we have Council Terms I will resign,

I find it ridiculous because members have for a long time shown that they actually vote purely on popularity and at the end of the day they have absolutely no idea what we do. Look at my activity in game recently and you would be thinking that I do very little, yet then take a look at forums and you would see someone is fairly active.

Last I looked like 15% of my posts are in lvl 3.

I gaurantee members will judge purely on in game/irc activity so I would rather step down on my own terms, than be pushed out because I can't play much RS atm.

Oh yeah,

I fear that this will also cause alot of negativity in the clan when this is to go on, with aspirational members running a 'smear campaign' (for want of a better term) against council members to try and open up as many spaces and hence get elected.

I feel the same way.
After you've stayed Council for a long time and then a new person beats you, a lot of shame would be brought on the Council's part. I know I'll be resigning in a few months, even if I succeed the terms, I would resign 1-2 months after, making it a wasted vote, I might as well resign earlier so that there is more variety during the terms.
