A thought on the recent updates

By Elyxiatic on 20/02/2008
I posted this on rsc.
Just thought I'd share it with you..
It concerns the recent updates, the bh crater, etc.
Have a read + post your comments.

You know, when you really step back + think about it, you realise that this is a snowball effect ever since the first updates.
The only reason jagex introduced trade limit, bh, clan wars, staking limits + duel tournies was because they couldn't figure out who was rwt + who wasn't.
They couldn't figure out who were the little chinese men sitting at their computers for real world cash.

If jagex actually found out a way to determine them more effectively, then all of these updates causing members to leave would never happen.
Like hey, i'm fine with a small amount of real world trading happening in the game, it doesn't affect economy that much.
Like, there was 1 week in rs when jagex ban a ton of flax pickers.
Why can't you improve on that + stop all these updates which force your own members to leave?

I know, you may see me + say, "oh, but you're part of a clan, you're going to hate this update".
Sure, I do hate this update, not only for the clan world, but for the poor excuse they have implemented for 1v1 pking.
If you haven't realised, you can't 1v1, a lot of situations can be 2v1 now.
Also, the level difference in the wildy was more fair, you'd only travel as far as you would gamble with your items.
However now, you are forced into an arena in which a lvl 67 can fight a lvl 112?
Unfair much?

The clan war arena was a sad excuse for the glory of fighting another full clan.
There is no risk now, the richest clans will bring the best armour.
In the old wildy style, clans only brought the gear that gave the best defence in the price range they're willing to risk.
Now there is not that risk, that risk was half the fun of actually going to a "clan war".

In my opinion, the problem does not arise from the updates, but arises from the detection from bots + rwt'ers that they failed to discover + implement.

Yeah that sounds about right to me too only problem is that they dont seem to be changing it back or doing anything for us clans or those who are affected they just do the updates as they please and almost do not care about us

I don't even think its Rwters Jagex are after now, they seem to be randomly doing things to annoy the players, especially clans

Well, as I posted in the other topic(Here), the problem all started when they decided they decided to stop bots once and for all by making rune essence members only. All that did was force bots to steal credit card numbers and do it on members, and it increased the cost of resources, thus making GP worth more.
When that happened, it became worth it to gold farmers to farm for money, which made the problem worse.
The December update happened because Jagex was going to be shut off from credit card payments, as the company they are going through was fed up with all the scam payments, which came out of their pockets.

Now, they are too proud to do change it back now, which is why they are going down.

Ya know, I didn't mind the bots as much as the limitation on trade.

Now, first off, real world trading wise, I don't see it as wrong - Sure, its against the rules, but, if you think about it, it takes money from rich idiots with too much money, and are willing to buy /game/ cash, and gives it to either kids in the basement with a nice script, or some poor gold-farmer in another country, for whom that money is worth more than what they could make any other way.

They could probly stop lots of real world trading by setting up some sort of trade system, like other games have. You make the cost low, like a dollar or two per million, which makes it not worth it for actual humans to gold farm, and while you have a few bots, most people would prefer to pay the extra $0.10 and get it through a perfectly secure system without risk of being scammed.

Sure, this would introduce a lot of money into the economy, so to balance it, after a couple weeks, they introduce a way to turn Runescape cash back into $... at a bit of a discount obviously. They might also set it up like the grand exchange so if you want to buy Runescape gp, you have to find someone willing to sell it. They obviously take a commission.

I don't know how well this would work, but it couldn't be any worse than what you have now.

I have given up on Jagex - They made the decision, now they will face the consequences of that decision.

The wilderness was first created for player killing back. Like Maffs said the level difference made pking more fair.
