Laptop
By Georgio9 on 23/10/2008
How much is that first laptop?
If it's over $2000, I'd tell you to consider to get a macbook pro, or really any professional model laptop. They are more reliable, in every respect and generally have better components inside. Just because a laptop is a new model, doesn't mean that it has new components in it. Things like the harddrive or the RAM may be a couple generations old especially with the Big Box stores like best buy.

I hate to disagree, but no matter what do not get a mac. They are incompatible with most things and overpriced. I would have to say that customizing your own would be a good choice if you ordered a laptop online. You can get a really nice one for under $1500. If you wanna check it out
http://www.dell.com for the laptop. Check the coupons on this site for any possible deals
http://www.notebookreview.comEDIT: I would stay away from the 64-bit vista as well, it is better, but it has many more issues than the standard 32-bit version. and the extra half a gig of ram doesn't help much either.

There's no problems with Mac's. They take about 2 hours of playing around with to get used to the feel of the overall system but you'll find they are really well designed. Slim, sturdy, cool hardware features like the new trackpad, backlit keys, things that are convenient like that. They all come with really cool standard software for pretty much anything. You can find anything you need software-wise on the internet, including copies of windows.
Everyone I know with a mac dual boots OSX and Vista and they have absolutely no problems at all.
Asus also makes pretty decent laptops, don't confuse them with Acer because Acer is a bunch of low end pieces of shit.
Note when buying laptops or computers in general....anything over 3gb of ram in a 32-bit system is totally useless because the OS does not have enough addresses that it can assign to the memory for use.
Realistically though, I can't tell you what to buy. It's your budget not mine. It's also you're style, what you're comfortable with using on a day to day basis.
PS - I have a Dell Vostro 1500. It's a "business laptop" but really it's just a beefed up version of their inspiron series. I pretty much turned from a conventional laptop to borderline desktop replacement by sticking a good graphics card in. That's really the biggest difference now in any laptop. You're not going very far without a good graphics card even for just running Vista. 256mb card is the minimum for what you seem to want to do.

O well.....I need a pc soon because I am going through relapse not playing games.....whenever I come home from work, school, or from chilling with friends I am bored as hell......atm home is more of a prison than school......
Only need to wait for

Honestly, a couple years ago, I would have said not to get a mac under any circumstances, however now... its a pretty good option. You have to worry less about drivers and compatibility, at least on the OSX side, you have dual booting, and even VMware, for running two OSes at once - Truly awesome.
I don't have a mac laptop myself, but a friend of mine at school does, and he uses it everywhere - Nice, high-resolution screen, great battery life, shiny aluminum case(with a clear plastic cover over that), and appears to be pretty sturdy.
So, really, you may pay more for a mac, but, so long as you make sure the model you are getting isn't affected by some hardware problem(which, you have to do with *any* laptop, especially other brands), its probably going to be worth it.

Personally I'd go with option 2. It's cheaper and still really more than you need.
A Macbook is also a good option.
If it were me though, I'd go option 2.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with Dell Computers. They are cheaper than most brands and you can customize them to your liking. I myself and using a dell, and the only problems I've had were cause by my overclocking the computer lol.
