EXCUSE ME ELITE GUARDIANS@@

By Randy on 21/01/2009
Well, recently we've had some upset members, which I hope you can take 3 minutes and read this. And it made me think what really separates people from the community. I guess some just have a more outgoing personality, but idk.

I'm kinda of looking for the elite guardians to help me here. It's not exactly hard to see who drifts away from the community, those who never contribute in conversations or rarely post. All I'm asking is for a "hello how are you" because I trust the 1337guardians would be so kind and helpful AMIRITE?

Yeah, well I can't speak for the other Elite Guardians, but I do post my opinion from time to time. Usually it's not a serious post, and just a post to try & cheer everyone up.

It's going to be hard for to come on the IRC though, quite busy nowadays :>

Yes of course biggrin.gif I always do my best to help others in many ways whether its joining or if they just need a friend to talk to, and I do my best to say hello and gratz etc to our members, this is especially important when new members join etc, some are very excited to join us then try to fit in and or chat in a public irc convo but are ignored and feel like they arent accepted and then slowly fade away sad.gif

A good example would be Ansats recent re-post in intro's it lets you know how these people feel on the inside and if you didnt take time to read the "very few" posts that replied to his, do so again because there is a new member that posted that has been very quiet, he was excited when he joined and now by reading his reply to Ansat you can see he feels the same way, Its Mojo btw.

People need to feel accepted not rejected, ive been seeing a clique growing in wg since the return of a few members that quit us a while back, to me WG was more of a family b4 one or two of them returned. They seem to stuck on themselves to even take one second of thier life to say hello or to post in forums etc, its not hard to see this growing in our community, and it angers me.

If we want members to feel welcome especially the new ones then this behaviour needs to be controlled.

I mean look at all the people in our channel and then look at whose talking, and also pay attention to whom is being ignored, when they speak in irc and are blatantly over looked like they dont even exist, this happens daily, every single day. Even when they post a lvl gain in channel only a few say gratz the others keep on chatting and sometimes no one says gratz at all to them. Its selfish and conceited and just out right rude.

I undertand you calling on us, but I think it cant just be dependent upon us to make up for how some of our members make others feel, we need a better plan and course of action.

Another example was when April posted a vid of her at BH yesterday, she worked hard on it and posted it on youtube then in our channel several times, did anyone take a few minutes to watch it, or even compliment her on it or anything? Not that i saw, I did watch it and compliment her on youtube, just another example of someone being ignored on purpose, Idk what people have against her or whatever but Ive seen her try and talk in chat as well and be ignored by the ones that blab away non-stop thinking our irc is thier own or whatever, thats totally anti-community.

Just had a thought cross my mind, its easy for me to see the ones that are ignored etc, it should be for other elites and leaders as well, although I dont really play rs much anymore because of work and Megan, (meaning I pay alot of attention to irc) but my thought was this, maybe we could have a place to put names of those that we notice being ignored alot, so that we can all step up and make a point to make them feel welcome to WG, that and or also a questionaire should be developed that leaders send out to new members after they have been here say 10 days or so.

It would consist of questions such as how are they liking WG so far, and other questions such as do you feel welcome in our community? And if so why and if not, what makes you feel unwelcome? Im tired of seeing people join us that are very excited to join WG and put forth a great effort to get involved in conversations etc, and sure they feel that it may take a few days or so for people to get to know them so they keep at it, but then eventually give up, and either fade away or just go back to feeling left out.

I mean alot of these kids are prob left out irl, so on here they can feel different and have friends etc, but if they cant even have that on irc and or in WG thats a massive fail on our attempt to make others feel they are a part of our family. So its time for that to end. And by us paying more attention and a place to put the names and also a questionaire I think will help us get a good foothold on controlling this and regrowing our community.

Wg belongs to all of our members, not to just a few

Glad you posted this topic Randy wink.gif

Good ideas Mark. Perhaps something EVERYONE can do, not just newcomers. Such as a monthly survey? (Private of course)

I'm sure everyone has dislike of one thing or another, the only issue I can foresee is that we'll get 100 suggestions to do something and they'll get frustarted when we can't exactly listen to all of them.

The one thing I want to try to help the community is an increased use of teamspeak. With the right people and the right topics, Teamspeak can be lots of fun.

Yeh I agree would be great for everyone to do, so we can see what is on our members minds, but I also think a seperate one for new members should be created as well, because so many try to fit in then are ignored and fade away. Make one for new WG as i suggested and one for all once a month, cause a month may be too long for new members that feel this isnt a good home for them for various reasons etc. And that falls back on this topics main subject, everyone should be made to feel welcome to WG and to find a home here and stay and be happy biggrin.gif

Ja oke ill help out

Ya, teamspeak is ftw.

We really need to be like, looking through IRC and seeing who is on RS, but not talking on IRC, because the 'louder' characters, are like constantly talking. I shall personally make a greater effort to talk to the quieter bunch, and see what I can do smile.gif

Much love x.
