Ok, over the past few weeks my Xbox360 has been playing up, today i find out that there is something lose in the console it's self and it is scratching all my Games and DVDs.

This is what my CoD4 disc looks like, this means i CANNOT play my CoD4 till i buy a new one at the end of the month:

I rang up Microsoft today, i spent about an hour on the phone to some Foreigner. This seemed to go on forever as i couldn't understand him, in the end i handed the phone to my father and he spoke to him for me. I gave him all the information and he think told us that our warranty was out of date because it was an old xbox that i had already replaced once, Fortunately for us we knew about the trading standards act and found out the warranty is 6 months from the day of purchase, this means that the day my xbox was replaced on September 7th 07 the warranty was re-established. This means that my xbox is 5 months during it's new warranty.

After speaking to him and giving us the information he told us that it would cost £60 to repair a faulty 360! So we rang the trading standards and found out it is the place of purchases responsibility to replace my faulty goods. So i shall have no 360 for a few days - weeks. I don't dare play any other games on my 360 or watch DVD's. My 360 has scratched my Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect and Assassins Creed disc. After searching the inter and speaking to the trading standards we found out that i am not the only person who has had this problem, and have been told that we might have compensation in the way of a new 360 and new copies of the scratched games

Eek =\. It's amazing how you contacted the Trade stuff lol biggrin.gif, I should learn some of those laws lol. Might be useful some day#

'I know my rights bitch!, gimme my Xbox nao'

It's a shame you can't play those hawt games for a while though =\

I will be interested to see wether this works. From what I understand when a product has been replaced under warranty it does not extend it (ie you dont get the 6 months from the date of purchase) so unless it would still be under the original warranty you would not have any warranty.

I am certain that getting a warranty replacement would not extend your warranty.

That is where you are wrong smile.gif According to Trading Standards the warranty is extended when your xbox is replaced smile.gif

The warranty is not re-newed if they fix your console.
But if they give you a brand new one in its box and all , it is.

Ah, the rules are different here sad.gif They dont renew it even if it is a new console...

Correct, but according to Microsoft my 360 will have to be replaced.

Microsoft sucks when it comes to 360 hardware and peripherals? Old news.

One of my best friends got the Red Ring Of Death even though he hardly used his 360 (compared to me anyways, he'd go like a week without turning it on) and he had it for just a couple of months. He got a refurb for free (since they do that for all RROD), but it took a few days for them to send him a box to package his in, which he then had to send to M$ and they finally got him the refurb over two weeks later.

RROD is easily fixable by the same methods that caused the RROD.

HEAT.

Take out your HDD, wrap your 360 in some really good blankets and turn it on. Eventually it will turn itself off because of the excess heat and then you unwrap the 360, let it cool and the soldering should have remelted and fixed itself.

That's how my friend does it and it works every time. However, if you're uncomfortable with doing this, I wouldn't do it. I probably wouldn't do that to my own but if you're gutsy enough to do it, go for it.

Yeah, I know the stuff behind it. There are websites out there with in-depth ways to fix the problem. Although you would have to void the warranty by opening your 360 and messing around with it on the inside.

Overheating it doesn't always work, and in the long-term is almost guaranteed to just make it worse.

they are great but so unreliable. Im on my second now, got a 3 red light thingy after 2 weeks of my first. On the replacement the memory card bendy door thing fell off inside the 360, its loose in there under the disc drive too but i think i managed to push it down enough so it dosen't scratch - had to buy 2 memory cards to fill the ugly holes though.

When I took my first back to the shop they replaced it right away without a receipt or anything lol, infact it wasnt even in its origional box just heaped in a card thingy. Apparently that they replace so many they dont want to waste all the time going through everything.

Try putting toothpaste on the discs, leave it on for 5 mins and then wipe off with a cloth or something that wont break up like tissue. Saw it somewhere and thourght it was a myth but tried it on my scratched gow and it gave me 3 more campaign levels lol. if its allready not working there's no harm in trying.

Well all I can say is, you all deserve it for getting a 360 instead of a Wii.

Lucky for you, there are machines that can unscratch CDs.
The actual data is behind a thick wall of plastic. You can get a machine to melt and smooth the plastic to get rid of the scratches, then it will play fine.

Meh. Thanks to having a PC and a 250gig harddisk, I haven't had to worry about scratched disks in a couple of years. Its *so* much easier, quicker, and quieter to just load the game into a cd-emulator, and run it that way, leaving the disk safe in your collection.

Wii + 360 = Wii60 = Epic win.

I own both consoles and the Wii is indeed very awesome, but sometimes I just need to kick some ass in Halo.
