Yep, wasn't suggesting that we should snipe, thanks for the responses though :)

Real Life Discussion / What the f*ck are you doing?
June 24, 2015, 05:42:53 PM
Take your 'scaping frame of mind. Now think: what am I running away from by playing this awesome virtual world.

What drives you in life? Do you want a house, a car, a girl and a kid? Do you want to save the world? Smoke weed and party with no tomorrow? Become a celebrated author, scientist, astronaut, have a front page post on Reddit?

I wanted to ask people to re-intro 'cos I don't know them, but I feel this is an approach that could be more interesting.

What drives me: for the past 5 or 6 years, I wouldn't really see past university and committed myself to that and travelling the world whenever I could, but didn't really think about medium to long term life. I'd say now is the time when I'm realizing I want to get in more creative shit, not necessarily to make a living out of them, but I feel like I want to produce something worthwhile, and maybe even beautiful. Will probably try to get back into music and drawing. On a more serious side, I'm a committed environmentalist, mostly specialized in climate change, so getting a job related to that is on my list. Also keeping a foot in France while managing to speak tons of other languages seems like who I'd like to be, so roaming around the world seems like a good idea.

This gif from wikis explains piling pretty well:

Woulda been valid a few years ago. But now the assumption you hit 1's with no food stock in the equation is misleading. Since you can hit 330+ a sniper can down someone where before he would've been only a nuisance.
actually I think it's pretty accurate of RS3 today. In the gif they are hitting the equivalent of a 200 every hit because they only have 5hp there. 200 is probably close to the average hit when you factor in misses so I personally don't see that gif as out of date at all.

Not trying to be obnoxious here but let me clarify: it would have been next to impossible to KO someone if you sniped him back in the day, he'd have to eat up food, but he'd last.

If you snipe today, there's a chance you can down him before he can eat all his food, therefore you gain much more than before by doing it. The .gif is somewhat flawed because the pilers do not stop attacking the pile; if they stop piling and try to hug off the snipers and eat, damage on the pile is also reduced. Even more so if they get ko'd.

I may be wrong, but it's the impression I got from when I got sniped and when I involuntarily sniped in the CP war. I think Lars hit the nail on the head: since I'm not used to the damage you can take from single snipers and since CP are shit like me, it might be effective in a WG v. CP, it's true I don't know about better clans.

Interesting, sniping used to be a legit tactic..
back when fights were more high opts!

Do you reckon it's also because now you can pretty much solo 3-hit someone with a gravite 2H? I mean, piling is a tactic that happened because it used to be impossible to KO someone with rune scims unless you had a certain number. It's a bit absurd that the goal is now to pile people to kill them, rather than just kill them. If multiple piles is a more efficient tactic to kill people and not get killed why can't we do that?

I guess it's just one of those absurdities inherent to the clan world, like when fireblasting used to be a no-go for no reason at all...

BUMP ##

2004: Led a WG-wannabe forum clan on Sal's RS Forums, was anti-pking, first called MMAPkers (can't remember what it stood for), then Saradomin's Chosen
2005: Joined the first version of the Descendent Guardians
Around 2005/2006: DGv.1 closed, we got transferred to WG. Made my way to Raid Leader
DDay: mass leaving following a leadership conflict, I followed the crowd. Joined Eternal Honor for a brief stint.
Back to WG in like 2007, up the ranks to Warlord/Council until 2008
Elite Guardian until around 2009 then Emeritus to this day, haven't been this active in ages ##

Clan World Discussion / Clarification on sniping
June 22, 2015, 04:38:15 PM
Is it NH now? What qualifies as sniping, how can you differentiate it from misclicking?  O_O

I had quit for a while and RS3 felt overcomplicated to relearn, so OSRS is great because it's familiar. I guess there's also something that brings me back to my teen years.

Fight Arena +12175 Attack exp - You will have to kill a few quest bosses here but all of them are easily safe-spotted behind a corpse on the ground. Just bring enough casts (100-200 will do)

Need many more casts if doing this from level 1 magic (I used about 400 in total)

Great guide tho

That topic was interesting. So basically lack of a competitive environment and the fact that combat dynamics are now 'flawed'?

I'm confused, what's the latest word? ##

Yeah so I was browsing the Zybez recaps of WG's recent fights and there seemed to be this general mood of "RS3 is lame" in responses from other people.

Being neo-noob to the current clan world, can somebody clear this up for me: is all clanning happening in 07 now?

I don't want to reopen the RS3 vs 07 debate which seems to stir some passion up- would just like to be filled in on how/when this shift happened

I wish... all my laptops are useless during clan fights (super laggy), whereas desktop computers are fine (with the same internet connection)

Make sure you are able to distinguish whether it's FPS (frames per second) lag or Latency lag. FPS lag is a result of your computer, latency lag (skipping around, disconnecting) is from your internet connection

All I know is that if I use the desktop computer on the same connection, there's no lag

Technical Support / Scapin' on a laptop?
April 07, 2015, 06:18:06 PM
Howdy clam mates,

I'm in search of a laptop that will allow me to scape acceptably, i.e. not lag during PvP as is the case with my current piece o'shit.

What do you guys use? Any recommendations for gamin' PCs that aren't prohibitively expensive? A friend of mine recommended the Acer Aspire V nitro 15 black edition for a good price/quality ratio, what do you think?

Cheers!

BLUFF it was actually 12: in order, France, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, US, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic AND.. Andorra

I'm not even counting layover countries (which would add Turkey and the UAE)

Australia counts as Asia man, if it doesn't then the Eastern Islands of Indonesia are also Oceania, in which case I'm at 4 continents ##
#73
It's easy when you're Australian, you have South East Asia in your backyard, and you have the monies to go to Europe- and once you're thre it's just a matter of cashing in on your plane ticket to go through all of it.

I've been to 11 countries in the past year, on 3 continents, who will defy me in this bragging contest?

1. I was born and live in France, have Canadian and French citizenship, my mom is Chinese-Danish-British-Irish, my dad is Armenian-Romanian-Lithuanian-Ashkenazi Jewish.
2. I like big butts and I cannot lie
3. Aged 17, I abandoned Stokenut in Picadilly Circus in a pool of his own vomit, having lied to my parents about going alone to London from Paris for the 1st WG IRL meeting. I proceeded to spend the rest of the night sleeping on buses waiting for my train in the morning
