The 2009 Anniversary, also called the Clanniversary, was a celebration of the 6th birthday of the Wilderness Guardians. The anniversary was delayed by several months due to His Lordship attending the third Real life meeting[1]. A total of 16 events were hosted over the course of five days throughout the month of March 2010.
Videos
Three videos of the majority of the anniversary were produced by Vio and are listed below, though he was not present for some events due to real-life commitments. A video of the Veteran War was recorded by Kung_man149. A video of the day one Firefest was recorded by Torreoria, but it was hosted on a non-YouTube platform and has since been lost to history.
Part One
This video covers days 1 and 2, including the Megaraid, Snowball Fight, and iSketch. The Veteran War, Firefest, Musical Chairs, and Race to the Throne were not recorded.
Part Two
This video covers days 3 and 4, including Barrel Bombing, Zombie, Dance Party, Scavenger Hunt, and Streets of Ardougne. Campfire Stories was not recorded.
Part Three
This video covers all of day 5, which consisted of the Clan Quest and Photo Shoot.
Preparation
There was extensive preparation for the anniversary, which was originally planned to last for seven days and host twenty events which would be voted on by the clan members[2]. However, the anniversary was ultimately ended after the fifth day. Clan members would wear a designated costume for most of the events - the same as the previous year (tan Tribal mask, pink Tribal top, pink Villager robe, brown Villager sandals, and a Team-9 cape). A Flash introduction was produced by His Lordship[3], and a Forum banner was made by graphic designer Samurai_JM, though it is considered Lost Media (the current version is a screencap from one of Vio's videos).
A preparation event was held on 6 March 2010, which allowed members to gather logs for the Firefest at Seers' Village (and do an Evil Tree random event), and for His Lordship and Kcross73 to sell the costumes and steel armour sets for the Veteran War.
Day One
7 March 2010
Day 1 consisted of four events, two of which (the Firefest and Drop Party) were open to the public[4].
The Veteran War
- Main article: Anniversary#Veteran_War
The Veteran War took place as planned - however the non-veterans chose to attack from the eastern entrance of the Bandit Camp rather than the traditional south entrance through the lava. The veterans were also lined up facing north, rather than south.
The Firefest
Thousands of fires were lit across Falador, symbolic of birthday candles.
The Public Drop Party
A drop party was held in the Falador Party Room - members from the entire clan world were invited, and over 17,000,000 coins worth of items were dropped.
The Megaraid
For the first time, a Megaraid (a large-scale PK trip) was hosted as part of the anniversary. The clan went PKing in the Wilderness and Falador on PvP worlds, with His Lordship even obtaining a kill himself. The trip ended with a run-in with the team Welfarers.
Day Two
19 March 2010
Day 2 consisted of four events, a change from the three originally planned with the addition of a Race to the Throne[5].
Musical Chairs
A game of Musical Chairs took place in the Clan House dungeon, with the music being played on Mumble.
Race to the Throne
For the first time, a Race to the Throne was held in the Throne Room, which was won by TheEvilDead2.
Snowball Fight
An interclan war was held on White Wolf Mountain in a PvP world, with the clan using wind strike to simulate snowballs.
iSketch
For the first time, WG hosted a non-RuneScape event as part of the anniversary. Using the external site iSketch, members would take turns sketching a picture of a random word, and the others would make guesses as to what the words was. During the final round, the word selected was "gene" (His Lordship's real name), and Kcross73 drew a cartoon of him shouting "Nothing left!!!", prompting surprise and amazement from His Lordship and the other members present. This is included at the end of Vio's part one video.
Day Three
20 March 2010
Day 3 consisted of three events, with The Sabres joining WG for the Zombie and Dance Party.
Barrel Bombing
Also called "Kegger", the idea was conceived by Majeic and involved dropping barrels and kegs (large in-game items) across Varrock centre. This was only partially successful, as some of the dropped items did not appear for all players.
Zombie
An event conceived by Kingrandy0, which followed the same theme as the previous year, but taking place in Keldagrim this time.
The Dance Party
The Dance Party involved the two clans performing synchronised emotes in Falador and the Grand Exchange, to music played over Mumble.
Days Four and Five
Days 4 and 5 were held on or around 28 March 2010 (the forum topics for both days have them scheduled for the same date and time, though Vio remembers them being hosted separately)[6][7]. No screenshots survive of the events, though the majority were recorded by Vio and feature in the latter two of his videos, apart from Campfire Stories. The events held were:
Day Four:
- The Scavenger Hunt - A list of items was read out in cryptic code, and the first three players to return the correct items to His Lordship would win.
- Streets of Ardougne - The only skill-based event which was created by Gorgemaster and Kingrandy0, in which players competed to thieve the most money in 30 minutes within Ardougne.
- Campfire Stories - The clan would sit around a fire in-game and tell stories over Mumble. A karaoke event may also have taken place at the same time. Vio missed this event due to real life commitments.
Day Five:
- Clan Quest - As done in most years, members had to solve a series of clues to find His Lordship's in-game location, which was the Burthorpe games room.
- Photo Shoot - The clan dressed as Spartans just as in the 2007 anniversary, but this time the clan engaged in a PK trip with their outfits. They managed to secure a few kills in Falador on a PvP world, before being cleared by a clan or team in actual fighting gear in the Wilderness. Ironically no screenshots survive of the photo shoot, though it features heavily in Vio's last anniversary video.
An event of "Chicken" was planned to end the day where members would play a competition using the Home Teleport spell, though it is believed to have not been held.
