Decisive combined victory against CD CD cleared twice WG victory with ~30 members remaining Poison logged |
The WG vs Poison was a war which took place in May 2013, and was WG's first large-scale planned fight in Old-School RuneScape. Shortly into the battle, Critical Damage - an enemy of Poison - attempted to crash the war. WG and Poison united to focus on the crashers, and subsequently cleared CD twice, before Poison conceeded victory of the initial fight.
Background
The war took place a few months after the release of Old-School RuneScape. WG members had been training to reach a reasonable standard, and had seen considerable success already with unplanned fights on their PK trips. The leadership decided that Poison - a clan of similar size and strength to WG - was a good match, and the fight was planned for 5 May. Due to a high risk of interference, two other clans, Eternal Reign and Genesis were sought to provide anti-crash services.
War Preparation Video
For the first time since The Battle of Turning Tides, His Lordship produced a war preparation video for the war.
The Battle
WG adhered to the tradition of massing in Juliet's house in Varrock, where His Lordship also gave the clan his final pre-war speech to date. The clan then marched west to the Monastery for the prayer bonus, and up into the Wilderness.
WG had 39 members against Poison's 15, giving the clan a massive advantage in terms of numbers. WG was led into battle by a level 17 scout account NH Unit and charged towards Annakarl from the east, initially encountering ER and mistakenly attacking them, before realising the error and continuing to the Demonic Ruins where Poison were waiting. Despite the imbalance in numbers, the battle was fairly balanced at the start, but within approximately two minutes Critical Damage - an enemy of Poison and former enemy of WG - crashed the fight. WG and Poison immediately chose to suspend their fight and focus their efforts on CD. With the help of ER, CD was cleared within a matter of minutes, and the alliance sustained very few casualties. It is unclear when the second AC (Gen) became involved, but they are seen in later portions of the video.
WG and Poison took a first ending at the ruins, but CD had been regrouping and rushed the clans again only seconds later. Once again, WG, Poison and ER united to focus on them, and within minutes CD retreated to the east and did not appear in force again. At this point, the gap between WG and Poison's numbers at grown substantially, and it was clear WG would certainly win if the initial fight were to resume. As a result, Poison logged out and conceded WG the victory. WG took an ending with approximately 30 members remaining, but stayed for several minutes to pick off any remaining stragglers across the Wilderness. They took a final ending northwest of the Red/Lava Dragon Isle, and marched down past the Moss Giants and out of the Wilderness victorious.
Aftermath
Though no clear victor was determined between WG and Poison, the battle was considered a joint victory between both clans against CD. It also earned them significant recognition and respect from the wider clan community, as both clans were considered to have returned to a respectable level of power through their investments into Old-School RuneScape compared with their reputations throughout the later years of RuneScape 2.
A video of the fight was produced by Vio, who was also leading the clan for much of the war.
Trivia
- Despite being Warlord and Second-in-Command of WG at the time, Vio did not yet have level 70 ranged, and thus led WG into battle wearing Red Dragonhide instead of Black.
- The video mistakenly states the date as 6 May, when the battle occured on 5 May.
- The pre-war speech given by His Lordship was recorded, but did not make it's way into Vio's video. However, much of the recording was used in an unrelated compilation of clan clips made by Vio in 2017: March of the Guardians.
