Oak Island Pirates (OIP) is a clan founded by Oak Island in 2006, and the first and only exodus of the Descendant Guardians. OIP is the longest-surviving relative of WG at 14 years as of 2020, and the only one still active within RuneScape.

Formation

OIP was established in January 2006, and officially opened in February. The clan arose as a result of what is described as "political infighting" with the first iteration of DG (the Wilderness Guardians's junior clan). Oak Island, a member of DG, intended to start a new clan, and gained the support of other members who would subsequently join OIP. Originally there were about 20 members and Oak Island was the leader with "First Mate" Kestra Akadi and "Second Mate" Knightseek. Oak Island retired from RuneScape shortly after, and the leadership was redistributed to a council composed of Kestra Akadi, MagicSword4, Knightseek, and Killer5037. Over the years, OIP has maintained a 4-council member structure in most circumstances, with each outgoing leader handing down his or her position to a new leader upon retirement.

WG is believed to have been considerably displeased with the concept of OIP - possibly due to the loss of members - and would eventually close DG as a result, though no serious hostilities are known to have arisen between WG and OIP. Rick Hamm was also a member of OIP.

OIP also adopted an ARPK policy as their ancestors WG and DG had done.

History

OIP is known to have had alliances with various clans, including another relative of WG, Sleeping Dragons. Several skills competitions were held between OIP, SD, and others during 2011 and 2012, with considerable success.

Present Day

As of 2020, OIP remains active in RuneScape 3.
