A motto is a short sentence or phrase chosen as encapsulating the beliefs and ideals of a clan. Mottos are commonly displayed on media such as banners and recruitment material, and occasionally used in-game (for example, spamming the motto as a war cry).

WG Motto

WG's motto is "Shield of the Innocent".

The original motto was "We are the Shield of the Innocent", which came at the suggestion of Wildflame110 in 2003 who originally put forward "We are the Shield of the Weak". "Weak" was changed to "Innocent" by His Lordship. The motto was based on the clan's founding principle of ARPK, as well as representing the advocation of Honour and fair play. The "innocent" initially referred to players who entered the Wilderness with no intention of engaging in PvP such as PvMers, skillers and other adventurers.

Over time, the motto was shortened to just "Shield of the Innocent". As the clan gradually lessened its advocacy of ARPK and became a more inclusive and community-driven organisation, "innocent" has come to mean the members of the clan itself - "shielding" one another as they partake in Wilderness activities as a united, honourable and neutral community.

MG Motto

The motto of the Master Guardians is "We Do Not Break". This was chosen by Vio to reinforce the MG attitude towards high-tier PvP, in that members are expected to not tire or yield ("break") as a result of the stresses and demands from the harsh and intense style of gameplay.

DG Motto

The motto of the Descendant Guardians was "To be a Beacon of Hope in a Land of Darkness". This was chosen by His Lordship during the first iteration of the clan, and represented the essence of the Wilderness - darkness and despair; and what DG brought to it - hope and salvation. The motto was used for all three iterations of DG.

SG Motto

While placeholders were made for a motto for the Silent Guardians, none was ever officially adopted and the clan simply referred to itself as "The Non-PvP Arm of WG" for the duration of its existence.
