The 2008 Anniversary was a celebration of the 5th birthday of the Wilderness Guardians, and consisted of 20 different events over the course of 8 days - making it one of the largest and longest Anniversaries throughout the clan's history.

Preparation

Planning for the anniversary began in November, with the intention of it being a seven-day series of events beginning on the clan's birthday of December 6th^[1]. His Lordship also produced a public Flash movie for the event, inviting players from the wider RuneScape community to attend the first day^[2]. Additionally, it was decided that WG members would wear a designated costume for the majority of the events^[3], consisting of:

Tribal Mask (tan)
Tribal Top (pink)
Villager Robe (pink)
Villager Sandals (brown)
Team-9 Cape

Day One

The Veteran War, 6 December 2008.

6 December 2008

Day 1 was held on the clan's 5th birthday, and consisted of three main events^[4]. There was also a fourth "mystery event" at the end, in which the WG members dressed in black wizard robes formed the shape of a penis.

The Veteran War

Main article: Veteran War

The Firefest

The first part of the public section of the anniversary was the Firefest, with thousands of fires being lit across Falador symbolising birthday candles.

The Public Drop Party

A drop party in the Falador Party Room was held, with members from all clans of RuneScape clans being invited and over 20,000,000 coins worth of items being dropped.

Day Two

WG covers Falador centre in flowers using mithril seeds, 7 December 2008.

Day 2 consisted of two known events - a Stealing Creation minigame event was also planned, but no screenshots survive and it is unclear if the event took place^[5].

The Race Through Taverly Dungeon

A race through Taverly Dungeon was hosted on a PvP world, with PvP between clanmates allowed and the ultimate goal of killing His Lordship at the end. This was won by Anatcrafter.

Flower Power

The clan covered the Grand Exchange and Falador with thousands of flowers using mithril seeds.

Day Three

WG fills the Grand Exchange with their own tombstones, 12 December 2008.

12 December 2008

Day 3 consisted of three events. A photo shoot was planned with the theme of seasons (fall/winter/spring/summer)^[6], but this was cancelled and replaced with Bandit Crashing, and another photo shoot with a different theme took place later in the anniversary.

Musical Chairs

A game of musical chairs was played in the Clan House, using music played over TeamSpeak.

Suicide Tombstone Bombing

This was originally a planned Market Crash which became "Suicide Tombstone Bombing" - where WG members suicided using explosive liquid to fill the Grand Exchange with grave markers.

Bandit Crashing

The clan dressed in humourous outfits, and crashed players training at the Bandit Camp in the desert using strong weapons and cannons - forcing the players to leave or hop worlds.

Day Four

WG dressed as pirates and ninjas in Morytania as part of the Photo Shoot, 13 December 2008.

13 December 2008

Day 4 consisted of two events. Two other planned events were once again reorganised - the Bandit Crashing event held the previous day, and a Snowball Fight was postponed to the next day in favour of the Photo Shoot^[7].

The Clan Quest

The clan quest involved members forming small teams to try and find His Lordship in-game, whilst having to decode riddles, fight one another, and race across the map. His Lordship was located at the mining rocks near the Tears of Guthix.

The Photo Shoot

The photo shoot's theme was "Pirates vs Ninjas". The clan divided into two teams, took some screenshots at the Clan House, and then headed out into the game to try and recruit other players into their lineup. The ninjas proved to be the more popular.

Day Five

Day 5 consisted of three events. An out-of-game iSketch event was planned^[8], but it is unclear if this was held - it is likely that this was replaced by the Dance Party.

The Snowball Fight

An interclan war on White Wolf Mountain in a PvP world, with members using wind strike to simulate snowballs.

Zombie

A survival event created by Kingrandy0, hosted within the walls of Varrock and similar to the game of tig/tag - when a player was found and "tagged" they would become a zombie and help hunt down other the other players. The last member to become a zombie was the winner.

The Dance Party

An event hosted in Falador, featuring the clan in the anniversary costume performing synchronised events to music on TeamSpeak.

Day Six

WG members duelling using Summoning familiars, 19 December 2008.

Day 6 consisted of three events^[9].

The Burthope Games Room

The clan spent some time playing various minigames such as Runelink and Draughts.

The Rogues' Den

This was an adaptation of the Rogues' Den minigame into a multi-player race, making it significantly more exciting as members navigated through the obstacles and raced to the treasure room.

The Pokémon Battle

Members fought each other only using Summoning familiars, in the free-for-all Clan Wars arena.

Day Seven (Bronze War)

20 December 2008

Day 7 consisted of one event - an allied bronze war, in which WG and their allies (3v0, TBE and TDM) all fought in PvP using only bronze armour and weapons. The event did take place as planned - however no screenshots of the battle have survived^[10].

Day Eight

23 December 2008

Partway through the celebrations, His Lordship offered to organise an eighth day for members to attend, as the anniversary in its entirety was also being used as an activity sweep with members being required to attend at least 3 events^[11]. This was agreed upon, and day 8 consisted of two events^[12].

ARPK Trip

An ARPK PK trip was held in PvP worlds and lasted around 1 hour and 45 minutes, but no screenshots of the event have survived.^[13].

Karaoke

A karaoke event was held on TeamSpeak, with clan members performing their own renditions of popular music. Recordings of the Karaoke were made by Gorgemaster and uploaded to YouTube:
