2004 was the first complete year of the Wilderness Guardians, and the year in which RuneScape 2 replaced RuneScape Classic as the flagship game of Jagex.

Summary

WG had gained over 100 members by January of 2004, and for the majority of the year WG's main focus was on PK trips ("Raids") in RuneScape 2 (which had been released in March). They did encounter significant issues as a result of their PvP activity - the clan developed rivalries with Anarchy and Fear, and the first exodus (The Synergy). Fear and Syn would later ally with WG. The clan also implemented its first requirements of 60+ combat to try and improve member quality and standards. In November, after being insulted by the Rune Outlaws, WG hosted their first war.

Major Events

January - March

  • February 4 - WG's first clan website was fully constructed. Features included a message board, chat room, private message system, games, and miscellaneous documentation.[1]
  • March 15 - Rick Hamm replaced Sum41xx as the second Co-Leader of WG, and Docster was made 3rd-in-Command at Rick's request.[1]
  • March 29 - RuneScape 2: the new game was launched[2], and WG began the transition over from RuneScape Classic, losing only a few members in the process.[1]

April - June

  • May - WG member Falco307 bribed his way to a high rank, and attempted a mutiny by trying to convince the clan that he was the new new leader. The coup failed, and Falco and his accomplice Jedi Rin were banned - the first bannings in WG history.[1]
  • May 17 - Lord Xin and Rick Hamm were appointed official Co-Leaders of WG, and an in-game ceremony was held.[1]
  • June 5 - Requirements: WG's first set of in-game requirements were made, and new members would need a combat level of 60+ to join.

July - September

  • July 3/10 - WG encountered Anarchy on PK trips, and the trips were considered "ruined". His Lordship and Rick Hamm, with the support of The Sabres, declared war on Anarchy, but they refused to fight.[1]
  • July 20 (or 30)[5] - S4 forums: WG switched from their S7 forums to S4 (possibly on the 30th), and was reduced to around 60 active members in the process - but structural changes such as forum ranks and the "Clan Production" system were also implemented.
  • August 2 - The Synergy: WG member Eragon Cd and around 10 others left WG to found Syn, the first exodus of WG.
  • August 5 - Wilderness Thesis (2004): His Lordship published a ~6,500-word document on PvP and clans in RuneScape.
  • September 4 - Rick Hamm deleted the entire contents of the S4 forums and His Lordship's forum account, believing that His Lordship was responsible for hacking The Synergy's forums.[6]
  • September 6 - Peace between WG and Syn after a month of hostility was achieved - WG council member Palidore made an offer to Syn co-leader Kanchellsis on His Lordship's behalf, and Syn leader Eragon Cd accepted a state of neutrality.[7]

October - December

  • October 2 - The Synergy: WG and Syn formed an alliance, after a month of peace and friendly relations.
  • October 4 - 2004 Census: The results of WG's first clan census were published.
  • December 11 - 2004 Anniversary: WG's 1st birthday celebrations began.
  • December 11 - Medals: The first set of graphical awards for clan members were announced and awarded.
  • December 20 - Write2brandy: WG member Brendan was reported to have died from Leukemia, and an in-game funeral was held for him.
  • December 21 - Rune Outlaws member Deadlyjosh insulted the memory of Write2brandy, and WG declared war in retaliation.
  • December 24 - Fear: WG formed an alliance with Fear, a clan previously hostile to them - Fear offered to support WG in their feud with RO.
  • December 30 - His Lordship stepped down to the rank of Senior Member due to an intra-clan dispute, and Myst01 became the second Leader of WG.
